Restarting the Roblox app or your device may help with an app glitch, but Roblox does not say those steps restart the server itself.
Is there a restart button for a Roblox private server?
Roblox’s Private / VIP Servers FAQ explains how to configure a private server, but does not document an owner-facing restart control. It also does not establish that leaving and rejoining, changing settings, or cancelling a subscription restarts the server instance.
To reach the documented owner settings, open the experience page, go to Servers, select the three-dot menu beside your server, then choose Configure. Roblox lists options there for renaming the server, managing access, creating a server link, and handling subscription settings—not restarting the instance.
What to try if you cannot join
Check private-server access
If you see Error 524 or cannot enter the server, check whether the owner added your account or enabled access for friends. Roblox’s Error 524 help recommends checking these permissions and your account’s private-server privacy settings. Users under 13 can join friends’ private servers by default, but privacy settings may add restrictions.

Rule out an app or device glitch
Roblox’s connection troubleshooting recommends fully closing and reopening the Roblox app and restarting the device for temporary glitches. These steps troubleshoot the client; they are not documented as a way to restart the private-server instance.
Check whether Roblox is having an outage
If the problem affects more than one player or experience, joining may be delayed or fail during a Roblox outage or maintenance. Roblox recommends checking its status page and social posts for updates.

What private-server settings do—and do not do
Private servers must be enabled for an experience by its creator. Owners can use the Configure menu to manage supported server settings, but those controls should not be treated as a restart command. Subscription controls are separate: cancelling stops future renewal, while the paid server remains usable until its expiration date, according to Roblox’s private-server FAQ.
