You can’t reset one Genshin Impact character and start that character over on the same account. HoYoverse’s official guidance points players who want a different account toward creating or using another account. You can also choose a different server on supported platforms, but that gives you separate progress—not a transfer or reset of your existing character. If you only want to switch devices, sign in with the same account and server to continue your progress.
Choose the kind of fresh start you want

HoYoverse’s Genshin Impact Official Release FAQ describes using another account and changing servers; it does not describe a same-account, single-character reset.
Start fresh with another account
This is the clearest option if you want to preserve access to your current journey while beginning a separate one. The 2020 release FAQ says players who want to play under another account need to sign up for another account or use a supported third-party account. Its wording uses the historical name “miHoYo Account”; don’t assume that this wording matches today’s account interface.
- Keep track of the login method and server for the account with your existing progress.
- Register or sign in with an account distinct from the one carrying that progress.
- Launch Genshin Impact and use the new account to begin a separate journey.
Creating another account is not a reset of the old save. Keep the old sign-in details if you may want to return to that progress.

Use a different server for separate progress
On PC, iOS, and Android, the FAQ says players can change servers. Character data is not shared across servers, and characters cannot be transferred between them. Choosing another server therefore creates a separate progression track for the account; it does not move or restart the character on your original server.
- At login, select the server where you want the separate progress.
- Continue on that server when you want to access that progress.
- To return to the original journey, select its original server.
Server selection is not presented in the cited FAQ as a general option for every platform. Check the current login options for your platform rather than assuming the same server controls are available everywhere.

Switching devices usually does not start over
For PC, iOS, and Android, HoYoverse says account data is shared across those platforms. Sign in with the same account and choose the same server to continue the associated progress. A new device by itself is not a fresh-start method.
PlayStation: check before linking
PlayStation progress involves the PSN account and HoYoverse account-linking rules. HoYoverse’s cross-save notice says progress sharing requires the linked accounts to use the same server. The notice also describes eligibility constraints, including cases where an already-used PSN account or an already-associated email cannot be linked as desired. It says unlinking is not supported for the function described in that notice.

- Confirm which PSN account you are using and whether it has already entered Genshin Impact.
- Check that the HoYoverse account you intend to use is eligible to link.
- Confirm the server before linking; cross-save sharing requires the same server.
- Do not link casually if you may need to reverse the choice.
Because account-linking eligibility and current procedures can change, check HoYoverse’s current account guidance before taking an account-specific action.
