Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteYou can restore a deleted Minecraft world only if a usable copy still exists—such as a Realm backup, a platform cloud save, a device backup, or an accessible world folder. The steps depend on whether you play Java or Bedrock and on your device. Start by checking the copy that matches your platform; none of the official methods below can recreate a permanently erased local world with no backup.
First, identify what happened to the world
A world that vanished from the list is not necessarily deleted. It may be missing from the account or device you are using, or a cloud copy may not have synced. A world that was deleted, corrupted, or overwritten presents a different problem: recovery requires a backup from before the loss.

- Edition and device: Java or Bedrock, and PC, Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, Android, or an Apple device.
- Save type: a local world or a world hosted on a Realm.
- Failure state: missing from the list, deleted, corrupted, or changed by an unwanted overwrite.
- Available copies: Realm backups, platform cloud saves, device backups, or world files that are still accessible.
Do not use instructions for one platform as a substitute for another. The Xbox cloud-save procedure is specific to Xbox; the file-copy instructions below apply to certain Android Bedrock worlds.
Restore a Realm backup
Use a Realm backup captured before the world was deleted or damaged. Choose the newest known-good save from before the loss. Restoring rolls the Realm back to that snapshot, including its builds and items; progress made after the snapshot will not be present.

How long Realm backups may remain available
Minecraft Help’s Realms backup page, accessed in 2026, states that saves are made every 30 minutes, when you select Save & Quit, and when you disconnect. It says, “The four most recent saves are retained.” The published retention schedule is:
| Age of save | Retention described by Minecraft Help |
|---|---|
| Last 24 hours | One save every 4 hours |
| 1–8 days | One save per day |
| 9–36 days | One save per week |
| 37–121 days | One save per month |
| 122 days or more | No saves retained |
Minecraft Help also says a Realm world can be downloaded within 18 months of subscription expiry, while associated backups are deleted 30 days after expiry. These are the policy figures on its backup and restore page; check that page for current rules before relying on a particular backup being available.

Recover an Xbox world from cloud storage
Minecraft’s Xbox guidance ties cloud saves to the signed-in Microsoft account and distinguishes cloud-synced, cloud-only, and local-only worlds. A local-only world is not yet backed up to the cloud, so do not delete a console copy unless you have confirmed the correct account and that a cloud copy exists.
- In Minecraft’s Play screen, check the world’s cloud status and make sure you are signed in to the Microsoft account that owns the save. Cloud-synced worlds have no status icon; cloud-only worlds show a cloud icon; local-only worlds show a hard-drive icon with an up arrow.
- If the world is cloud-only, use Manage Worlds to download it. Minecraft says missing files may also restore automatically after the cloud save syncs.
- If the local save is outdated and you have verified a cloud copy, follow Minecraft’s specific console restore flow: open My games & apps → Minecraft → Manage game → Saved data, select your profile, and choose Delete from console.
- Launch Minecraft so it can sync the cloud save back to the console.
Important: Delete from console removes the console copy as part of this Xbox cloud-restore procedure. It is not a general recovery step and should not be used without a confirmed cloud copy. See Minecraft’s Xbox cloud-save instructions for the platform-specific guidance.

Copy an accessible Android Bedrock world
If Minecraft’s File Storage Location was set to External, you may be able to copy an existing world folder off the device. This preserves or transfers a file that is still present; it does not undelete a file that has already been erased.
- Connect the Android device to a computer by USB and select File Transfer or MTP on the device.
- Open
Android/data/com.mojang.minecraftpe/files/games/com.mojang/minecraftWorlds. - Copy the relevant world folder to the computer or another device.
Minecraft’s Android world backup instructions specify this method for External storage. If the game used Application storage, the location and instructions differ; do not assume this path applies.

What to do when the world is a local save on another platform
For local Java PC worlds and other local Bedrock saves, the official instructions covered here do not establish operating-system-specific file recovery steps. First check your own device backups and any still-accessible world files. For Apple devices, PlayStation, or Switch, consult the platform’s current official save-management guidance for that device and edition; do not apply Xbox or Android steps to them.
If the world is absent and you have no Realm backup, cloud copy, device backup, or accessible world folder, the official methods described here do not confirm a dependable way to undelete it. Avoid treating file-recovery utilities as guaranteed. Preserve the device and contact the relevant platform’s support service for options specific to its storage and account system.
Make a separate copy after recovery
Once the world is available again, create an additional copy so a later deletion or unwanted change does not leave you relying on one save. Minecraft provides options to download or copy a Realm world, and an accessible Android External-storage world can be copied to a computer or another device. A USB drive can store a copy you have already retrieved; it cannot recover a missing world by itself. See Minecraft’s Realm backup and download guidance or the Android instructions above for the relevant copy method.
