Which CPU-vs-CPU option should you use?
College Football 27 offers two different ways to remove direct player control. They are not interchangeable:
| Option | How much control you keep | Best use | Where it applies | Pace and presentation |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Super Sim | Hands-off once you start the simulation | Watching a Dynasty matchup play out without calling plays | A scheduled Dynasty game | Choose a simulation speed; Slow is the watch-oriented choice. What appears on screen depends on the current build. |
| Coach Mode | You call plays and make pre-snap adjustments; CPU-controlled players execute after the snap | Participating as a sideline coach rather than controlling a player | Dynasty League Settings; in Online Dynasty it is league-wide | Interactive, one play at a time, with pre-play options such as Auto Snap and Coach Suggestions. |
Use Super Sim when your goal is to spectate. Use Coach Mode when you want to manage the situation, choose formations and plays, and then watch the teams execute those decisions. Neither description should be read as a promise of a dedicated, broadcast-style spectator mode in every menu.

How to watch a Dynasty game with Super Sim
This is the shortest route to a CPU-versus-CPU game in the current community-reported workflow.
- Load or create a Dynasty. You must be at the point in the schedule where the matchup is available to play.
- Open the scheduled matchup. Select the game from the Dynasty schedule and choose Play Game.
- Enter Super Sim. Look for the Super Sim option in the game setup or in-game pause interface shown by your current version.
- Set the simulation speed to Slow. Faster settings are intended to produce a result quickly. Slow is the setting to try when you want the game to unfold drive by drive instead of receiving an immediate outcome.
- Run the simulation. Depending on the controls visible in your build, simulate individual drives or advance the full game to the end.
- Pause or leave only when the interface offers that control. Do not assume that every version exposes the same pause, exit, or drive-selection commands.
At the final screen, review the result and statistics supplied by the game. If you want to run the matchup again with different settings, return to the relevant Dynasty setup and make the change before starting another simulation; the ability to reproduce an identical game depends on the build, sliders and other settings you use.
Why Slow speed matters
Super Sim can be used simply to obtain a result, but that is different from watching a simulation. Slow speed is the community-reported setting for a more observable, play-by-play-style progression. It does not establish that every snap will be rendered as a complete broadcast sequence. The current interface determines whether you see a play presentation, a drive summary, or another simulation view.

Can you leave both teams completely unattended?
In the Dynasty Super Sim workflow, the teams are simulated rather than directly controlled by you. You may still need to advance the simulation, choose a drive or accept a prompt if the game presents one. The available controls are version-dependent, so check the on-screen instructions rather than expecting a permanent hands-off toggle.
How Coach Mode lets the CPU execute your plays
Coach Mode is an officially documented feature, but it is a coaching experience rather than an unattended spectator mode. EA describes it as a sideline role: you call the plays, manage the situation and make pre-play adjustments; once the ball is snapped, the players execute the play.

Turn on Coach Mode
- Enter the Dynasty you want to use.
- Open League Settings.
- Find Coach Mode and enable it.
- Set Auto QB to On if you want the CPU to control the quarterback after the snap.
- Return to the matchup and start the game.
The exact location of the toggle can be presented slightly differently after an update, but the relevant settings are in Dynasty’s league configuration rather than in a separate CPU-versus-CPU Play Now menu.
Configure the supporting options
EA lists several settings that shape the Coach Mode workflow:

- Auto Snap: controls whether the snap occurs automatically after your pre-play choices.
- Coach Suggestions: can provide play recommendations while you make the coaching decisions.
- Pre-Play Cutoff: controls when communication and pre-snap interaction end. EA specifies that the cutoff occurs when the play clock reaches 15 seconds.
- Pre-Play Audio: adjusts the associated pre-snap audio behavior.
- Coach Perspective Camera: selects the sideline-oriented camera view for this style of play.
Choose Auto Snap and the other options according to how active you want to be. With Auto Snap disabled, you retain more time to inspect the defense and make adjustments. With it enabled, the game can move more quickly after you finish the coaching step.
What you still have to do in Coach Mode
Coach Mode does not automatically select every play for you. You remain responsible for calling the play and making the available pre-snap choices. After the snap, the players carry out that call, with Auto QB handling the quarterback if it is enabled. If you want no play-calling at all, use Super Sim instead.
Online Dynasty warning
In an Online Dynasty, Coach Mode is a league-wide setting. Enabling it affects all members of that league, not only the person who changed the option. Coordinate with the other users before turning it on, especially if some participants expect normal player control.

Super Sim versus Coach Mode: a practical decision guide
| Question | Choose Super Sim | Choose Coach Mode |
|---|---|---|
| Do you want to call no plays? | Yes. This is the hands-off route once the simulation is running. | No. You still choose plays and pre-snap adjustments. |
| Do you want a slower viewing pace? | Set Super Sim to Slow. | Use the normal play sequence and configure Auto Snap as desired. |
| Do you need CPU quarterback control? | Super Sim handles the simulated game. | Turn on Auto QB. |
| Are you in an Online Dynasty? | Use the scheduled-game workflow for that matchup. | Remember that the Coach Mode setting applies to the league. |
| Do you want to change a call before every snap? | No; use the simulation controls instead. | Yes; that is the purpose of the mode. |
| Do you need a guaranteed Play Now spectator sequence? | Not established by the documented procedure; use Dynasty. | Not applicable; Coach Mode is a coaching setting, not an unattended Play Now recipe. |
What is officially confirmed about modes and platforms?
EA’s Dynasty and Team Builder Deep Dive for 2026 defines Coach Mode as the sideline system described above: the user calls plays and manages pre-play decisions, then the players execute after the snap. The same documentation specifies that Pre-Play Cutoff ends communication when the play clock reaches 15 seconds.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsEA’s official FAQ identifies Play Now and Dynasty as game modes. The documented platforms are PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. EA’s July 9, 2026 launch announcement confirms worldwide release on those supported platforms. These platform and mode statements describe the 2026 release; later patches can change menu labels or behavior.
Play Now: what you can and cannot assume
Play Now is an official game mode, but the available documentation does not provide a complete sequence for assigning both sides to CPU control and launching a fully unattended spectator presentation there. Do not assume that a controller-assignment screen, a broadcast camera, or a particular CPU-versus-CPU toggle exists unless your current build visibly shows it.
If your purpose is to watch a game rather than experiment with an unverified Play Now setup, start in Dynasty and use Super Sim at Slow speed. That path is the one supported by current community reports. If you need to test Play Now, record the exact options your build presents and be prepared for the labels or behavior to differ after updates.
Troubleshooting a CPU-vs-CPU setup
Super Sim is missing
- Confirm that you entered a scheduled Dynasty matchup and selected Play Game, rather than remaining on a schedule or roster screen.
- Check the pause or game-management interface after kickoff; some builds expose simulation controls only once the game has loaded.
- Make sure you are not looking for the Coach Mode toggle in the Super Sim menu. They are separate systems.
- If the option still does not appear, restart the game and check for an available update. Menu labels can change between builds.
The simulation finishes too quickly
Re-enter Super Sim and select Slow. A faster setting is designed to return a result promptly. Slow is the appropriate choice when you want to observe the progression.

The quarterback is still under my control
That is expected if you are using Coach Mode without Auto QB. Return to Dynasty → League Settings, enable Coach Mode and turn Auto QB on. Remember that Coach Mode still requires your play call and pre-snap decisions.
I expected the CPU to choose plays for me
Coach Mode does not remove the coaching step. Use Super Sim for an unattended simulation, or leave Coach Mode enabled and use Coach Suggestions if you want assistance choosing calls while retaining control of the pre-snap process.
Other Online Dynasty members cannot play normally
Check whether Coach Mode was enabled at the league level. In Online Dynasty it affects all members. Disable it in League Settings if the league wants standard player control, then confirm the change with the other participants.
The screen does not look like a television broadcast
Neither the community Super Sim instructions nor the official Coach Mode description guarantees a broadcast-style presentation. The current build determines the camera, summaries and on-screen controls. Coach Perspective Camera is available as a Coach Mode setting, but it does not by itself create a separate broadcast spectator mode.

- Dynasty and matchup date
- Super Sim speed or Coach Mode configuration
- Auto QB, Auto Snap and any other changed options
- Roster, injury and gameplay-slider changes
- Whether you simulated drive by drive or advanced the full game
Run changes one at a time when possible. A result can change because of sliders, injuries, roster state, or other Dynasty conditions, so two simulations should not be treated as identical merely because the teams and schedule entry have the same names. If you need to preserve a baseline, make a save before altering settings and note which build of the game you are using.
A concise setup checklist
- Use a scheduled Dynasty matchup.
- Select Play Game.
- Open Super Sim.
- Select Slow for a watch-oriented pace.
- Advance drives or the full game using the controls shown on screen.
- For active sideline control instead, enable Dynasty → League Settings → Coach Mode.
- Turn on Auto QB in Coach Mode if the CPU should operate the quarterback.
- Review Auto Snap, Coach Suggestions, Pre-Play Cutoff, Pre-Play Audio and Coach Perspective Camera to suit your preferred involvement.
- In Online Dynasty, warn every league member before enabling Coach Mode.
Bottom line for College Football 27 spectators
For a true hands-off Dynasty matchup, Super Sim at Slow speed is the practical CPU-versus-CPU route. For a coaching-driven experience, Coach Mode lets you call plays and make pre-snap adjustments while the CPU-controlled players execute, with Auto QB handling the quarterback. Play Now is officially present, but a complete unattended CPU-vs-CPU setup sequence is not established in the available official documentation, so rely on the options your current build actually displays.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I watch every play without controlling either team?
Use a scheduled Dynasty game, enter Super Sim and choose Slow. The game may still require you to advance drives or accept an on-screen prompt, depending on the current build.
Does Coach Mode automatically call offensive and defensive plays?
No. Coach Mode leaves play-calling and pre-snap decisions to you. Players execute after the snap; Auto QB can give quarterback control to the CPU.
What does Pre-Play Cutoff do?
EA says it ends communication when the play clock reaches 15 seconds.
Will enabling Coach Mode change an Online Dynasty for everyone?
Yes. EA documents Coach Mode as league-wide in Online Dynasty, so the setting affects all members.
Is CPU-versus-CPU officially supported in Play Now?
Play Now is an official mode, but the available EA documentation does not publish a complete unattended CPU-versus-CPU setup sequence. Use the visible options in your build or use Dynasty Super Sim.
