To save Konrad the Hermit, investigate the clues around Apollonia, then side with him when the knights confront him and be ready to fight. The route is tied to Radovan’s sword request: after the confrontation, retrieve the broken sword from Ambrose’s grave and return it to Radovan.
Reach the hermit’s hut
Start Radovan’s sword request and travel to Apollonia. The hut is on the western side of the search area, reached through a narrow gap between large boulders. This route is described in a gameplay guide.

Before entering, save your game. If Konrad warns Henry away or turns hostile, leave his private area and return once he has calmed down. The guide also advises against repeated trespassing, bringing Mutt too close, or stealing in front of him; these are walkthrough recommendations, not independently tested guarantees.

Gather the available evidence before pressing the hermit for answers. Question Gerda and Stanislav, then investigate the cross stash, crusader clothing, money, documents, and black horse. The guide says the clues together reveal that the hermit is Konrad, a knight who took on his deceased friend Ambrose’s identity.

Side with Konrad when the knights arrive
When the knights confront him, choose the branch that sides with Konrad and prepare to fight them. Guides recommend this route if you want to hear his fuller explanation; defeating the knights may also leave loot to collect, depending on the quest state. Choosing to oppose Konrad is an alternative for role-play, but it does not save him.
Find Ambrose’s grave and take the sword
After the confrontation, look north of the hut at the edge of the meadow and forest, beneath tangled birches. The broken sword protrudes from the grave marker, so you do not need to dig up Ambrose’s body.
Do not confuse this location with Jan’s remains in the optional A Sinful Soul task. Jan is beneath a red rose bush outside the Troskowitz cemetery wall; that is separate from Ambrose’s grave and the sword.
Return to Radovan
Take the broken sword back to Radovan to continue the sword task. He then asks Henry to forge the wedding sword. The available walkthrough does not establish a universal forge-quality result or reward for every quest state.

Deep Silver’s official Patch 1.4 notes document specific fixes: the quest no longer fails in a described save-loading or post-main-story condition, Konrad no longer attacks during or immediately after a timeskip, and the “Talk to hermit” objective starts or becomes active only if the player has not found the sword. Those notes address the listed cases; they do not establish that every reported or platform-specific issue is resolved.
