To sell a gaming PC, document its exact specifications and condition, back up and reset Windows, photograph the actual machine, price it against comparable sold systems, and verify payment through the sales channel before shipping or handing it over. The right price depends on the components, condition, location, and where you sell—not on a universal gaming-PC resale figure.
Identify exactly what you are selling
Start by recording the configuration and checking model names rather than relying on assumptions. For a custom build, list the CPU, graphics card, RAM capacity, storage capacity and type, motherboard, power supply, case, cooling, operating system, and any included peripherals. Include the system or motherboard model and form factor when known. Separate verified specifications from estimates.
Describe the PC’s condition honestly. Note cosmetic wear, missing parts, modifications, repairs, and known faults. Do not claim that it was benchmarked, stress-tested, or tested in a particular way unless you actually did so. If you did test it, state what you checked and when. eBay’s desktop-listing guidance recommends detailed descriptions and complete item specifics, while its condition policy requires sellers to disclose flaws: item descriptions and item condition policy.
Back up your files and prepare Windows for the new owner
Before you reset the PC, make sure the files and account data you want to keep are backed up and accessible elsewhere. Consider documents, photos, browser data, and password-manager information. Microsoft recommends backing up needed data, resetting the Windows device, and removing it from your Microsoft account when selling or giving it away. Follow the instructions for the Windows version installed because the settings route differs between Windows 10 and Windows 11: Microsoft’s instructions for selling or gifting a Windows device.

- Use the Recovery settings and reset instructions for the installed Windows version, following Microsoft’s current steps.
- Remove the PC from your Microsoft account as directed by Microsoft.
A standard reset should not be described as meeting a specific high-security erasure standard unless you have followed a process that establishes that result.
Photograph and describe the actual PC
Use clear photos of the computer you are selling, not stock images of a similar model. Show the case from useful angles, the front and rear connections, included accessories, and interior components where appropriate. Add close-ups of scratches, damage, or other relevant wear so buyers can judge the condition. eBay’s guidance calls for actual-item pictures for used, refurbished, or flawed items and recommends clear images and detailed views: eBay’s picture requirements and guidance and desktop listing tips.

Use a specific title that includes the relevant CPU and GPU models, memory, and storage where space allows. Fill in the listing’s item-specific fields and explain what is included. Avoid vague promises such as “high-end” or “runs every game” unless you define and can substantiate them.
Set a price using comparable sold PCs
Search sold listings for systems with similar CPU and GPU generations, RAM, storage, condition, and included extras. Asking prices show what sellers hope to receive, not what buyers paid. eBay says its Product Research price guidance is based on similar items sold during the previous 90 days; check its current Product Research guidance and look for close matches.

Compare like with like, then account for meaningful differences in condition, accessories, and your local market. Recheck the closest examples shortly before listing because used-PC prices can move. There is no responsible universal dollar estimate without the system’s parts, condition, location, and likely sales channel.
Choose a sales channel and calculate what you will keep
Choose based on likely reach, your workload, shipping burden, payment protections, local-handoff convenience, and net proceeds after fees and shipping. A marketplace may provide a structured listing and payment flow; a local sale may avoid shipping but requires a practical handoff plan. Verify the current protections, costs, and rules of whichever service you choose.

On eBay, fees depend on factors that include listing format, category, price, and seller circumstances. Check the current fees for your location and account before deciding your minimum acceptable price: eBay selling fees. If a buyer found you through eBay, keep the transaction on eBay: its policy prohibits taking an eBay-originated sale off-platform, and its payment guidance says off-platform transactions do not qualify for eBay protection programs: offers to buy or sell outside eBay.

Check payment directly in the marketplace or payment provider’s account. An email, screenshot, or buyer message is not proof that funds cleared. Treat requests to pay more than the agreed amount and have you refund the excess as a warning sign; eBay advises sellers not to accept overpayment and repay it. If you ship
Choose a shipping method that suits the particular PC, case, and components. Document the condition and the packed item before dispatch, and retain shipment details. There is no single packaging method established here as right for every build, so make the packing plan appropriate to the hardware and the carrier you select.
If the buyer collects locally
Agree on the handoff details and what the buyer is taking before meeting. Confirm payment through the agreed method before releasing the PC. Check local requirements and choose a practical meeting arrangement for your area; safety guidance and rules vary by location.
