Step 1: Download the correct Crucial 2 server pack
- Open the Crucial 2 project’s Files area on CurseForge.
- Select
Crucial2-1.5-server-hotfix.zip, the file explicitly identified as the Minecraft 1.16 server pack. - Keep the downloaded ZIP separate from the client download. The similarly named

- Install a supported Java runtime before launching the server pack.
- If more than one Java installation exists, identify which executable your server launcher will use.
- Configure the launcher or script to use the release recommended for Minecraft 1.16.5.
- Keep the Java installation consistent when diagnosing startup failures; changing Java and several server settings at the same time makes the cause harder to isolate.
On a managed host
- Check which Java versions the host exposes for a 1.16.5 Forge server.
- Choose the version the host recommends for that Minecraft release.

Step 3: Extract the server files into a dedicated folder
- Create a folder used only for this Crucial 2 installation. A dedicated folder keeps worlds, configuration files, logs, and future backups together.
- Extract the entire contents of
Crucial2-1.5-server-hotfix.zipinto that folder. Do not run the server from inside the ZIP archive. - Preserve the directory structure supplied by the pack. Moving individual Forge libraries or configuration files elsewhere can prevent the included launcher from finding them.

Step 5: Install the matching client on every player’s computer
- Have each player install the Crucial 2 profile for Minecraft 1.16.5 with Forge.
- Select the same Crucial 2 release represented by the server pack: version 1.5 and its associated server hotfix.
- Launch the profile once in single-player or from the launcher so its files finish installing before connecting.
- Disable or remove test profiles that use another Minecraft version or mod-loader type if the launcher makes it easy to select the wrong instance.

Change one variable at a time
When diagnosing Java, memory, Forge, or network problems, change one setting and repeat the same test. This makes it possible to identify whether the failure belongs to the loader, the pack, the operating system, or the network.
