To run a modded V Rising dedicated server on Windows, install the game’s Dedicated Server tool from Steam, place the current BepInExPack V Rising files beside VRisingServer.exe, launch once to generate and inspect BepInEx/LogOutput.log, and then add only the plugins and dependencies your chosen mods require. Install Bloodstone.dll in BepInEx/plugins/ only when a mod explicitly lists Bloodstone as a dependency: Thunderstore marks Bloodstone deprecated, so it is a legacy compatibility component rather than a sensible default.
The setup is server-first. Some mods run entirely on the server and require no client installation; client-side mods do require players to install compatible files. What do I need before installing a modded V Rising server?
Use a Windows machine for the officially supported dedicated-server workflow. You need a Steam account that can install the free V Rising Dedicated Server tool, access to the server’s installation directory, and the exact mod packages and dependencies listed on their Thunderstore pages.

How do I install the official V Rising dedicated server?
Install the server tool from Steam, but launch the executable in its installation folder rather than relying on the Steam library button alone.

- Use Steam’s launch entry to open Stunlock’s instructions, then browse to the installation directory and locate
VRisingServer.exe. The executable is the file you will run for the actual server process. - Start the unmodified server once and let it create its initial files. Stop it cleanly before adding a loader or plugins.
Keep the server directory in a location where your account can create folders and write log files. Do not copy plugins into the Steam client’s normal V Rising game directory by mistake; the relevant root is the folder that contains VRisingServer.exe.
How do I install BepInExPack V Rising in the correct folder?
Copy the contents of the pack’s folder into the dedicated-server root, not the outer archive folder. The loader files must sit beside VRisingServer.exe.
- Stop the dedicated server.
- Download the current BepInExPack V Rising package and extract it somewhere outside the server directory.
- Open the extracted
BepInExPack_V_Risingfolder. - Move everything inside that folder into the directory containing
VRisingServer.exe. Do not create an extra level such asServer/BepInExPack_V_Rising/BepInEx/.
A correct root normally contains these pack items:

If Windows asks whether to merge the BepInEx folder, allow the merge. If the files are one directory too deep, the server will start without loading plugins and there will be no useful BepInEx log in the expected location.
How do I confirm that BepInEx loaded?
Launch the server once after copying the pack and check for BepInEx/LogOutput.log. A clean installation can take several minutes on its first run, and the same delay can occur after a game hotfix while BepInEx prepares files.

- Run
VRisingServer.exe. - Wait for the server process to finish its initial startup work; do not terminate it immediately if the folder is still being populated.
- Stop the server after it has started, then open
BepInEx/LogOutput.log. - Look for loader and plugin messages. The presence of the log proves that the doorstop loader reached the server; later entries identify individual plugin failures or missing dependencies.
No LogOutput.log usually means the pack is not in the server root or the loader did not initialize. Recheck that winhttp.dll, doorstop_config.ini, and BepInEx/ are beside the executable, then start again. If the log exists but names an erroring plugin, remove or update that plugin before investigating anything else.
Where does Bloodstone.dll go on a V Rising dedicated server?
Place Bloodstone.dll in BepInEx/plugins/, alongside other ordinary plugin DLLs. Do this only when the mod you selected lists Bloodstone as a dependency.

Bloodstone’s package status matters: Thunderstore marks version 0.2.2 as Deprecated. That does not mean a mod that requires it will work without it; it means you should treat Bloodstone as a compatibility dependency for that particular mod and verify the mod’s supported game-version tag before launching.
Bloodstone also creates a configuration file at BepInEx/config/gg.deca.Bloodstone.cfg. Its reload feature is disabled by default through EnableReloading=false, and the documented reload command is !reload. If a mod’s instructions specifically call for reloadable plugins, place those plugins in BepInEx/BloodstonePlugins rather than assuming every DLL belongs there. Leave the default setting unchanged unless the mod author explains why reloading is needed.

How do I install ordinary mods and their dependencies?
Use each mod’s Thunderstore dependency list as the installation checklist. A package is not necessarily a single DLL: some archives contain configuration templates, assets, or additional libraries that must retain their relative paths.
- Stop the server.
- Read the selected mod’s dependency section and supported game-version tag.
- Install every required dependency before the main mod.
- Copy ordinary plugin DLLs to
BepInEx/plugins/, preserving any additional files and folders included by the package. - Start the server and inspect
BepInEx/LogOutput.logfor the loader and each plugin. - After the first successful start, stop the server, edit newly generated files in
BepInEx/config/, and restart.
Make one configuration change at a time. If a setting causes a startup failure, you can then identify the exact file or value responsible instead of trying to reverse several edits at once.
What if a mod requires VampireCommandFramework?
Install VampireCommandFramework in BepInEx/plugins/ and keep it compatible with the mod that depends on it. VCF commands are entered in the in-game chat box, normally with a dot prefix; typing .help displays the commands exposed by the framework and installed command mods.
Do not enter a VCF command in the server console. Native administrator commands use the console, while VCF commands are chat commands. Confusing those two input paths is the usual reason a correctly installed command mod appears to do nothing.

Not always. A server-only mod runs on the dedicated server and normally requires no client files. A client-side mod, or a mod that explicitly states both sides are required, must be installed by every participating player in a compatible version.

Check the package description rather than inferring the category from the DLL name. If a player receives a version or missing-dependency error, compare the client package version with the server’s package and supported game-version tag before changing configuration.
How do I give an operator admin access?
Administrator access is separate from BepInEx and from VCF. Add the operator’s Steam ID to the server’s admin list, enable the console, and authenticate in the running server.
- Stop the server before editing files.
- Open
save-data/Settings/adminlist.txt. - Enter one operator Steam ID per line and save the file.
- Enable the server console in the server settings.
- Start the server and run
Adminauthfrom the console when the operator is connected.
Use the console for native V Rising administration commands. Use the chat box for VCF commands such as .help; the two command systems do not share an input channel.
Why does a modded V Rising server stop after a game update?
Game updates and hotfixes can change the assemblies that plugins expect. A server that worked yesterday may stop during startup when one DLL targets an older build, even though the dedicated-server files themselves are intact.
- Note the game and dedicated-server update date.
- Read the newest
BepInEx/LogOutput.logand identify the first plugin named in an error or exception. - Open that package’s Thunderstore page and check its supported game-version tag and dependency list.
- Update BepInExPack, the named plugin, and its dependencies when compatible releases exist.
- If no compatible release exists, stop the server and temporarily move the failing DLL out of
BepInEx/plugins/rather than deleting its configuration. - Start with the remaining known-compatible plugins, then add the removed plugin back only after its author lists support for the current game build.
Major updates and small hotfixes can have different effects, so repeat the compatibility check after either. Keep a written package-version list for the server; it makes a rollback or a support request much faster.
How do I troubleshoot the most common setup failures?
BepInEx has no log
Verify that the pack contents, including winhttp.dll and doorstop_config.ini, are directly beside VRisingServer.exe. An extra folder level is the most common placement error. If the files are correctly placed and no log appears, the loader did not initialize and plugins cannot load yet.

The log exists but a plugin is missing
Confirm that the DLL is in BepInEx/plugins/ and that all dependencies named by the package are installed. Some packages require additional files, so copy the archive’s contents rather than extracting only the DLL. Remove or update the plugin named in the error and restart.

Bloodstone-dependent content fails
Check that the file is exactly BepInEx/plugins/Bloodstone.dll, that the installed Bloodstone version matches the mod’s documented requirement, and that the mod still supports your current game build. Because Bloodstone is deprecated, an update may require waiting for the dependent mod to change rather than forcing a newer unrelated package.
A command says it is unknown
For VCF, open the game chat and try the dot-prefixed command or .help. For native administration, use the server console after the operator has been authenticated with Adminauth. Entering a chat command in the console, or a native console command in chat, produces the wrong symptom even when installation is correct.
The server closes during startup
Read the final section of BepInEx/LogOutput.log, then look for the first plugin or dependency that failed. Move that DLL out of the plugins folder, restart with the remaining set, and add components back individually. This isolates incompatible packages without discarding the world or all configuration files.
Should I self-host or rent a V Rising server for mods?
Self-hosting gives you direct control of DLLs, configuration, logs, backups, and update timing. Rental hosting reduces operating work but depends on the provider’s file access, restart tools, and policy for custom plugins.

Choose self-hosting when you are comfortable reading logs and updating DLLs after patches. Choose a rental service when continuous availability and simpler restarts matter more than unrestricted control, and confirm in advance that custom BepInEx plugins and Bloodstone-dependent mods are allowed.

There is no official Linux dedicated-server build. Community guidance describes Linux hosting through Wine in Docker and warns that it requires additional troubleshooting. The Windows Steam-tool procedure above should not be assumed to work unchanged on Linux; use a documented Wine/Docker setup and expect path, permissions, and process-management differences.
Is Bloodstone still a good default for a new server?
No. Bloodstone should be installed when a selected mod still requires it, not as part of every new BepInEx setup. Its Deprecated status means it is a compatibility choice with a narrower maintenance outlook, while BepInEx itself is the loader that belongs in the server root.

Can I move my configured modded server to another Windows computer?
Install the same Dedicated Server tool on the destination first, then copy the server’s save data, BepInEx configuration, and the exact plugin files while the source process is stopped. Keep a version list so the destination uses matching loader and dependency builds instead of silently mixing packages.
Should I delete a plugin’s configuration when removing the plugin?
Usually no. Move the DLL out of the plugins folder and retain its file in BepInEx/config so you can restore the plugin without losing settings. Delete a configuration only when the package documentation specifically says an old schema is incompatible.
What is the safest way to add several mods at once?
Install the dependency chain first, then add one main mod and start the server before adding the next. This creates a clear log checkpoint and makes it possible to identify the package responsible for a startup failure.
Can I enable Bloodstone reloading for every plugin?
