“Shadow Collection” is best understood here as Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Collection. The boxed Collection is a PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release; it is not the PC edition. Konami producer and studio head Dave Cox described the console package as “an excellent opportunity for newcomers and fans alike to get the full Castlevania: Lords of Shadow experience, engaging with the series in one ultimate compilation.” That statement describes the product’s positioning; it does not remove the practical difference between packaged content and code-delivered extras.

Setting up the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 Collection
What you need
- A compatible PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 console and the Collection disc.
- A television or monitor connected to the console, plus the appropriate power and video cables.
- A controller recognized by the console.
- For bonus material, any voucher sheet or code that came with the copy and an account for the relevant PlayStation or Xbox service.
The Collection is listed as a single-player release. You do not need an online multiplayer subscription to play the main campaign, although an internet connection may be required when attempting to redeem a voucher or download code-delivered content.
Install and launch the packaged game
- Turn off the console, connect it to the display and plug in the controller.
- Insert the Collection disc into the PS3 or Xbox 360. If the console does not recognize it, remove the disc, check for damage and verify that you have the correct platform version.

Buying a used console copy safely

Verify the PC edition and account
On Windows, search your Steam library or the Steam store for the exact title Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition. The separate title is the sourced PC option. You need a Steam account, the Steam client and enough free storage for the published 15 GB requirement.
Steam’s listing describes the game as single-player and supports either keyboard input or an XInput-compatible joypad. It also labels the game as having full controller support. “Full controller support” does not mean that every third-party gamepad, adapter or unusual input device is guaranteed to work.

These are Steam’s published requirements, not an independent modern performance test or a promise that every current PC will behave identically. They are also legacy-era specifications. Steam separately states that the Steam Client supports Windows 10 and later beginning January 1, 2024. Therefore, distinguish the game’s listed minimum operating system from the operating system supported by the current Steam client: a machine that technically matches the game’s old minimum may still be unsuitable for running today’s client.
Install the game
- Install or update Steam, then sign in to the account that owns Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Ultimate Edition.
- Open Library, select the game and choose Install.
- Select an installation drive with at least 15 GB free, while leaving additional space for Steam’s temporary files and updates.
- Accept Steam’s prompts and let the download and installation complete. Do not launch until Steam reports that the installation is ready.

XInput-compatible controller
For a pad, connect an XInput-compatible controller before launching, then select the controller option in the game’s settings if it is not detected automatically. Steam identifies full controller support for the edition, but compatibility is not guaranteed for every third-party device. If the pad is missing, reconnect it, confirm that Windows sees it, close conflicting remapping utilities and restart the game.
Using a supported controller is optional; the published input options are keyboard or an XInput-compatible joypad. No additional accessory is required to start the single-player campaign.

Steam cannot install or launch the game
- Check that the Steam account owns the Ultimate Edition rather than only a console disc.
- Confirm that the selected drive has at least 15 GB free and that Steam can write to it.
- Compare the PC with the published CPU, RAM, graphics and DirectX requirements.
- Check the operating-system distinction: the game lists Windows XP SP3 as its minimum, while the Steam client’s stated support is Windows 10 and later from January 1, 2024.
- Restart Steam after an interrupted download and use Steam’s own library prompts to resume or repair the installation.
The game starts but controls do not respond
- For a controller, reconnect an XInput-compatible device before launching and remove other gamepads temporarily.
- For keyboard play, open the in-game control settings, restore defaults and test one key at a time.
- Close overlays or remapping software that may intercept input.
- Do not infer that a non-XInput controller is supported merely because another device works; the listing specifically identifies XInput-compatible joypads.
A console code is rejected
- Recheck every character and confirm that you are using the correct platform account.
- Ask the seller whether the code was previously redeemed. A used package may contain an already-consumed insert.
