Install IridiumSkyblock on a Java Edition server by placing the IridiumSkyblock and Vault JAR files in server/plugins, then stop and restart the server. Paper is the recommended server software; Purpur and other supported Spigot forks can also work. After the restart, players use /is to open the Island GUI and create their first island. Add a Vault-compatible economy plugin, such as EssentialsX, if you want the shop and other money-based features.

What you need before installing
IridiumSkyblock is a server plugin for Minecraft: Java Edition. It is not a Forge or Fabric mod, and it cannot run directly on a Bedrock-only server. Prepare the server and its files before uploading anything.

Use compatible server software
- Paper: the recommended choice because the project is tested with Paper and Paper includes performance fixes and patches beyond the Spigot base.
- Purpur: listed as a supported Spigot-compatible fork.
- Spigot and other supported Spigot forks: supported when the selected IridiumSkyblock release lists them as compatible.
Check the compatibility information for the exact IridiumSkyblock release you plan to install. The documentation states that Minecraft versions earlier than 1.13 are unsupported, but release metadata can change as new Minecraft versions are published.
Do not use these environments
- Forge, Fabric, or Sponge server software.
- Geyser or a Bedrock-only setup as the server environment.
- A multi-gamemode arrangement that does not use a supported proxy setup.
- PlugMan-like loaders that add or remove plugins while the server is running.
Run a current Java runtime appropriate for your Minecraft server version, keep a full backup of the server directory, and make sure you can stop and start the process. Plugin installation requires access to the server’s plugins folder.

Required downloads and dependencies
You need two JAR files for the basic installation:

Download IridiumSkyblock from an official distribution route for the project, such as its project repository, Spigot, Modrinth, Hangar, or GitHub Releases. Download Vault from its official distribution source. Avoid renamed files from unofficial mirrors, and confirm that each download targets your Minecraft and server-software versions.
Install IridiumSkyblock step by step
- Stop the server. Do not copy plugin files into a live server and do not rely on a hot-loading utility.
- Open the server directory. This is the folder containing the server JAR and files such as
eula.txt. Open itspluginssubfolder, creating that folder only if your server software has not created it yet. - Upload the two required JARs. Place the IridiumSkyblock JAR and the Vault JAR directly in
server/plugins. Do not put them inside another folder or extract their contents. - Add an economy plugin if required. Install a Vault-compatible economy plugin before starting if your planned configuration includes the shop or money-based island functions. Follow that plugin’s own setup instructions so Vault can detect its economy provider.
- Start or restart the server normally. Watch the console as the server loads. IridiumSkyblock should create its data directory and configuration files under
plugins/IridiumSkyblock. - Never use
/reload. The official getting-started instructions specifically warn that reloading can break the plugin and leave server state inconsistent. Stop the process and start it again whenever you add, remove, or update the plugin.
Confirm that the installation loaded
After startup, check the console for a successful IridiumSkyblock enable message and make sure Vault is present. Join as an operator or a player with the appropriate permissions and run:

If the command is unknown, the plugin did not load, the JAR is incompatible, or the server is not running a supported platform. If the GUI opens but money-related controls do not work, check Vault and the economy provider before changing island settings.
Create your first island
Open the main GUI
Run /is in chat. The GUI is the central entry point for island creation and management. The exact buttons and descriptions can be changed through the plugin’s configuration, so labels may differ between servers.
Create an island with the command
Use:
/is createIf the server offers more than one island schematic or generator, the GUI or command flow can present a choice. Complete the prompt rather than issuing the command repeatedly; repeated attempts can create confusion when a team or island already exists.
Check the island and team state
Once creation finishes, confirm that you have been teleported to the island and that the expected starting blocks are present. Invite other players through the island’s team controls and review their permissions before giving access to valuable areas. IridiumSkyblock provides cooperative teams with permissions, so owners can control what members are allowed to do.

Administrative commands are permission-gated. Give those permissions only to trusted staff, and consult the command and permissions documentation for the exact nodes in the release you installed.
Configure the plugin files
IridiumSkyblock stores its YAML configuration under plugins/IridiumSkyblock. Stop the server before editing files, make a backup, and preserve YAML indentation. A malformed space or tab can prevent a file from loading.
bankitems.yml
This file defines the items shown in the island-bank GUI. Use it to change the bank menu’s visible entries, names, descriptions, and related settings exposed by the installed release. Keep material names and YAML structure valid for your Minecraft version.
blockvalues.yml
This file controls the values assigned to blocks for island-value scoring. Changing a block’s value changes how players can increase their island score, so review the balance implications before applying edits to an established world. Make a copy of the original file so you can restore the default values.

boosters.yml
Configure boosters and their available upgrades here. Test changes on a staging copy first, especially when a booster affects island value, generation, or another multiplier. The plugin’s feature list describes boosters and upgrades, but it does not publish a universal performance or balance benchmark for custom settings.
commands.yml
This file contains command descriptions, aliases, and permissions shown or used by the plugin. It is the place to adjust how commands are presented and which permission nodes are associated with them. Do not remove a command entry blindly: keep a backup and make one change at a time.

Apply configuration changes safely
- Stop the server completely.
- Copy the entire
plugins/IridiumSkyblockdirectory to a dated backup location. - Edit one YAML file with a text editor that preserves UTF-8 text and spaces.
- Start the server and read the console for parsing errors.
- Test
/is, island creation, the affected GUI, and any changed permission from a non-administrator account. - If startup errors appear, stop the server, restore the last known-good file, and start it again.
Economy, shops, banks, and island value
Vault is an interface, not a currency account by itself. To make a shop function, the server needs an economy plugin that Vault can detect. EssentialsX is cited by the project documentation as a basic economy option, but any alternative must advertise Vault compatibility and support your server version.
Why a shop can appear but not work
- Vault is missing from
server/plugins. - No economy provider is installed or enabled.
- The economy provider loaded after an unsuccessful plugin startup and needs a full restart.
- The player lacks the permission required by the shop command or menu item.
- A custom shop or item configuration contains invalid material names or prices.
After installing the economy provider, stop and start the server, then test a small buy and sell transaction. Keep the server’s economy and IridiumSkyblock configuration backups separate so you can identify which change caused a problem.

These systems are related but distinct: a bank stores the team economy, whereas block values determine how built structures contribute to island score.
World generation, schematics, and dimensions
The project describes configurable island generation in all three dimensions. The practical result depends on the generator and schematic settings selected by the server owner, so test every dimension in a disposable world before opening it to players.
Using a WorldEdit schematic
The FAQ notes that WorldEdit schematics may need to be copied into the WorldEdit schematics directory. If a configured schematic cannot be found, verify the file name, extension, capitalization, and the directory used by the installed WorldEdit version. Restart after copying the file if the plugin does not detect it while running.
Test generation before production
- Duplicate the server or create a separate test instance with the same Paper, Purpur, or Spigot version.
- Install the same IridiumSkyblock, Vault, economy, and WorldEdit versions.
- Copy the intended schematic into the WorldEdit schematics directory.
- Create islands in the overworld and, if enabled, in the Nether and End.
- Check spawn position, protected boundaries, block values, team access, and regeneration behavior.
- Delete the test islands and repeat creation to ensure the process is reliable before migrating the configuration to the live server.
Teams, permissions, borders, boosters, and missions
IridiumSkyblock’s project materials describe cooperative teams with permissions, customizable island borders, boosters and upgrades, tiered missions, and island currencies. Treat each as a separate system when planning your server rules.

Teams and permissions
Define who can build, open containers, invite members, remove members, or manage the island. Give ordinary players the permissions needed for their role rather than granting administrative nodes. Test an owner, a regular member, and a visitor account because permission inheritance can make a configuration look correct to an operator while failing for normal players.
Island borders
Use /is border to access border controls exposed by your configuration. A border is a gameplay boundary, not a replacement for spawn protection or a general permissions system. Verify that the visual border and the actual build protection agree, particularly after changing island size or generation settings.
Boosters and missions
Boosters, upgrades, and tiered missions can change progression speed. Set their values in the relevant YAML files, then create a fresh test island and complete a representative mission before applying the change to an established economy. Record the old settings so a rollback does not erase unrelated customizations.
Database choice and backups
The project documentation describes SQLite support. SQLite is a file-based database option suitable for a straightforward single-server deployment, while a larger network may need a separately planned data architecture and proxy arrangement. The documentation does not publish a universal player-count, memory, or TPS limit, so do not choose a database based on an assumed benchmark.
- Back up the whole server before upgrading IridiumSkyblock, changing database settings, or running destructive commands.
- Include the plugin data directory, configuration files, worlds, and database file in scheduled backups.
- Test restoring a backup on a separate server rather than assuming that a copied file is usable.
- Keep backups from before and after major configuration changes so you can recover both player data and settings.
Common problems and fixes
“Unknown command: /is”
- Confirm the IridiumSkyblock JAR is directly inside
server/plugins. - Read the startup console for a dependency, Java, or version error.
- Confirm that the server is Paper, Purpur, Spigot, or another supported Spigot fork.
- Remove duplicate or obsolete IridiumSkyblock JARs, then restart rather than reloading.
The server reports a missing dependency
Install Vault in the same plugins folder and perform a full stop/start cycle. If the message names another dependency supplied by your selected release, obtain the matching version from its official source and check the release notes before trying again.
The shop has no working balance
Check that Vault and a Vault-compatible economy plugin both enabled successfully. Then verify the player’s permissions and the shop configuration. A visible GUI does not prove that an economy provider is connected.
An island schematic is missing
Copy the schematic into the WorldEdit schematics directory, check its exact filename in the IridiumSkyblock configuration, and confirm that the file is readable by the server process. Restart after correcting the path.
Players can reach or build beyond the intended area
Review island-border settings, team permissions, and the selected island generator. Test with a normal player account, not only an operator, and regenerate only after taking a backup. Border display settings and build permissions should be checked independently.
A configuration edit prevents startup
Stop the server, restore the last valid YAML backup, and start again. Look for indentation errors, tabs, missing colons, invalid material names, or values that the installed release does not recognize. Apply one change at a time after recovery.
Safe upgrade and maintenance procedure
- Read the target IridiumSkyblock release information and confirm Minecraft, Java, and server-fork compatibility.
- Announce maintenance and stop player access.
- Back up worlds,
plugins/IridiumSkyblock, Vault, economy data, and the server configuration. - Remove or archive the old plugin JAR according to the release instructions; do not leave multiple versions in the folder.
- Place the new JAR in
server/pluginsand keep Vault and the economy provider available. - Start the server and inspect the console for migration or configuration errors.
- Test
/is, island creation, team permissions, bank access, shop transactions, borders, missions, boosters, and any custom generators. - Only reopen the server after the test account can complete the workflows your players use.
What IridiumSkyblock provides
The documented feature set includes a customizable GUI; a shop with buy and sell behavior; tiered missions; island banks and currencies; island-value scoring; cooperative teams with permissions; boosters and upgrades; customizable island borders; configurable island generation in the Overworld, Nether, and End; and SQLite support. These are capabilities described by the project documentation, not independent measurements of performance.
No authoritative benchmark in the published project materials establishes a maximum player count, memory requirement, TPS impact, or guaranteed setup time. Server performance will depend on the Minecraft version, fork, hardware, view and simulation distances, other plugins, world size, player behavior, and your configuration. Measure those factors on your own staging server before setting a public capacity limit.
