Use a Discord channel webhook and the Soulmask hosting panel’s Service Settings page. Create the webhook in Discord, paste its URL into Discord Webhook URL, and press Execute. Start/stop messages can be enabled directly; scheduled restart and scheduled update messages appear only when those tasks are configured.

The webhook URL is a credential. Anyone who obtains it can publish in that channel, so keep it out of screenshots, public chat, log files and configuration repositories.

Soulmask server alerts are sent by the server host through a Discord channel webhook. They are not a player-side chat option, a setting in the Soulmask client, or a Discord bot that every player must install. The host posts an event message to the channel associated with the webhook.
The documented notifications cover three operational cases:

- Server start and stop: messages when the service starts or stops.
- Scheduled restart: warnings or status messages associated with a restart task.
- Scheduled update: messages associated with an update task.
A webhook by itself does not create a restart or update schedule. If those alerts are important, the corresponding scheduled tasks must exist in the hosting panel or in the server-management software you use.
Before you begin
- Have administrator-level access to the Discord server, or at least permission to edit the target channel and manage its integrations.
- Know which Discord channel should receive server alerts. A dedicated channel such as
#soulmask-statuskeeps operational messages separate from player conversation. - Have access to the Soulmask hosting control panel and its Service Settings page.
- Decide whether you want only start/stop alerts or also scheduled restart and update alerts.
The procedure below applies to the control-panel workflow documented for hosted Soulmask servers. Self-hosted Windows, Linux and container installations can still use Discord webhooks, but the place where you configure automation depends on the manager or deployment method.
Create a Discord channel webhook
- Open Discord and enter the server that should receive Soulmask notifications.
- Open the target channel’s menu and choose Edit Channel.
- Open Integrations.
- Choose Create Webhook.
- Set a recognizable webhook name and avatar if you want the messages to be easy to identify. For example, use the server name rather than a generic label.
- Choose Copy Webhook URL. Keep the copied value private while you complete the next section.
- Save the channel changes.
The webhook belongs to that Discord channel. Creating it in a different channel sends notifications somewhere else, even if the URL is entered correctly in the hosting panel. If your community has several Soulmask instances, create a clearly named webhook in the channel intended for each instance and record which URL belongs to which server without publishing the URLs themselves.
Protect the URL like a password
Discord webhook URLs authorize posting. Anyone who has one can post in its channel, so do not paste it into a public support request, stream overlay, screenshot, issue tracker or shared document. Avoid placing it in a startup command that is routinely printed to a public log.
If the URL is exposed, remove or regenerate the webhook from the channel’s Integrations screen, then replace the old value in the Soulmask panel. Deleting or replacing the webhook is safer than assuming the leaked URL will not be used.
Connect the webhook in the Soulmask hosting panel
- Sign in to the Soulmask hosting control panel.
- Open Service Settings for the specific Soulmask server instance.
- Enable the editable Discord messages option.
- Paste the copied value into Discord Webhook URL.
- Press Execute to apply the change.
The important detail is the save action: entering a URL in the field is not enough until Execute applies the service-setting change. Make sure you are editing the intended server instance before executing; a multi-server account can otherwise connect the webhook to the wrong world.

After the change, the host can post the documented start/stop events to the Discord channel. The panel does not need a player to be online, because the message is generated by the server service.
Enable restart and update alerts
Start/stop notifications and scheduled-task notifications are separate operational features. To receive restart warnings, configure a scheduled restart task in the hosting panel. To receive update messages, configure the panel’s scheduled update task. The webhook setting supplies the destination; the schedule supplies the event that triggers the message.
Which event needs which configuration?

The documented event list does not establish notifications for every possible game event, such as player joins, deaths or in-game chat. Do not expect those messages from this hosting-panel integration unless the panel or a separate tool explicitly provides them.
Test the setup without guessing
Use a controlled test rather than waiting for a real outage.

- Confirm Discord messages remains enabled in Service Settings and that the URL field contains the intended webhook.
- Press Execute again if you changed any field after the first save.
- Perform a normal server stop and start during a period when players have been warned. Check whether the expected messages arrive in the selected channel.
- If you configured a scheduled restart or update, verify the task’s enabled state and timing separately. A schedule test should not be confused with a manual start/stop test.
When a message arrives, check its channel, timestamp and wording. Those details confirm that the URL points to the right Discord channel and that the panel is using the server instance you intended.
Troubleshoot missing notifications
No message appears after saving the URL
- Check the save step: return to Service Settings, verify the URL and press Execute. A pasted value that was never executed is not an applied configuration.
- Check the channel: open the Discord webhook’s integration details and make sure you are watching the same channel that owns the webhook.
- Check the webhook itself: if it was deleted, regenerated or replaced, the old URL in the panel no longer identifies a usable destination. Create or copy the current URL and execute the setting again.
- Check permissions: the account creating the webhook must be allowed to manage channel integrations. If Discord would not let you create it, the panel cannot correct that permission problem.
Start/stop works, but restart warnings do not
This normally indicates a task configuration issue rather than a webhook issue. Start/stop alerts use the service state; restart warnings require an enabled scheduled restart task. Check that the task belongs to the same Soulmask instance, is enabled, and has the intended schedule.

Restart warnings work, but update messages do not
Scheduled update notifications require their own scheduled update task. Review that task independently instead of changing a working webhook. Confirm that the update schedule is enabled and targets the same server.
Messages go to the wrong place
A webhook is tied to the channel where it was created. Create a new webhook in the desired channel, copy that URL, replace the old value in Discord Webhook URL, and press Execute. Do not rely on renaming the channel as a substitute for checking the webhook destination.

Treat exposure as a security incident. Delete or regenerate the Discord webhook, copy the replacement URL, update the panel and execute the change. Review recent messages in the channel for posts you did not authorize.
Change the destination or rotate the credential
To move alerts to another channel, create a webhook in that channel and replace the URL in Service Settings. The old webhook can then be deleted from its original channel’s integrations. This two-step order gives you a replacement destination before removing the existing one.
Rotate the webhook after staff changes, accidental disclosure or any unexplained message. Rotation does not require rebuilding the Soulmask server; it changes the Discord credential used by the notification integration.
Disable Soulmask Discord alerts
There are two clean ways to stop delivery:
- In Service Settings, delete the value in Discord Webhook URL and press Execute. This removes the configured destination from the hosting service.
- In Discord, open the channel’s Edit Channel → Integrations screen and delete the webhook. This invalidates that Discord destination even if an old URL remains in a panel field.
For a complete shutdown, do both: clear and execute the panel setting, then remove the Discord webhook. If you only pause a scheduled restart or update task, the webhook itself remains available for future start/stop messages.

Hosted control panel versus self-hosted automation
The webhook concept is the same across deployments, but the operational work differs. Use this comparison when deciding where to run a Soulmask server or when diagnosing why a guide for one deployment does not match your screen.

A managed panel is the shortest path when you want the documented labels and do not want to administer the operating system. A Windows manager is useful when you need multiple instances, local backups, broadcast warnings and automated start/stop handling. Self-hosting offers control but makes networking, storage, updates and recovery your responsibility.

The SoulMask Server Manager project documents a Windows workflow that can install the server through SteamCMD, manage multiple instances, create backups, schedule restarts with broadcast warnings, and post server start/stop events and scheduled restart warnings to a Discord channel.
This is an alternative management layer, not a different Discord protocol. You still create a Discord channel webhook and enter it in the manager’s webhook setting. Labels and menu locations can differ from the managed-hosting panel, so do not look for the exact Service Settings path if the manager is controlling the server locally.
Use this approach when the following trade-off fits your setup:
- You already operate a Windows machine and want local control.
- You need multi-instance management or local backup jobs.
- You are prepared to maintain SteamCMD, the manager, Windows updates and the server files.
Verify each automated action independently. A start/stop message proves that the manager can reach Discord; it does not prove that backups or scheduled restarts are configured correctly.

Linux and container deployments: what the webhook does not solve
A webhook only delivers notifications. It does not launch Soulmask, expose ports, persist save data or restart a crashed process. Those duties remain with your Linux service, container runtime or other host automation.
Container requirements
The documented unofficial container exposes the game and query UDP ports and persists the Soulmask data directory at /home/steam/soulmask. Confirm that those ports are mapped through the container host and that the persistent path is backed up. A container can run the game while still losing saves or becoming unreachable if storage and networking are not configured correctly.
Linux launch parameters
A community Linux guide uses launch parameters for the server name, maximum players, player password, administrator password, multi-home address and the game, query and echo ports. The relevant options are:

When diagnosing a self-hosted instance, first confirm that the service launches with the intended values, listens on the expected ports and writes to persistent storage. Only then troubleshoot the separate webhook sender or restart automation. If the server is not running or cannot be reached, a correctly copied webhook URL cannot make it healthy.
Operational checklist
- Target Discord channel selected and accessible to your administrators.
- Webhook created from Edit Channel → Integrations → Create Webhook.
- Webhook name and avatar identified clearly if multiple servers exist.
- URL copied privately and not published.
- Discord messages enabled in the correct Soulmask server instance.
- URL pasted into Discord Webhook URL.
- Execute pressed after entering or changing the URL.
- Normal start and stop tested.
- Scheduled restart task enabled if restart warnings are required.
- Scheduled update task enabled if update messages are required.
- Webhook rotated after any suspected disclosure.
- Self-hosted deployments checked for launch parameters, UDP ports and persistent storage before webhook troubleshooting.
Practical operating advice
Keep the notification channel readable. Restrict routine conversation there so an outage message is not buried, and tell moderators what a restart or update notice means before enabling automatic schedules. If you run several instances, use distinct webhook names and channels so an alert identifies the correct world without exposing its credential.

The core workflow remains simple: Discord owns the destination, the Soulmask service setting stores the credential, and scheduled tasks determine whether restart or update events exist. Keeping those responsibilities separate makes setup, rotation and troubleshooting predictable.
