Set a scheduled wipe with two host settings: ResetDaysInterval (the number of days between resets) and DayOfReset (Any or a weekday). Edit the persistent ServerHostSettings.json override, stop and back up the server first, then restart it. V Rising evaluates the schedule during startup before loading a save; when the interval and any weekday condition are met, it creates a fresh save and backs up the previous one.

What a scheduled wipe does
A scheduled wipe is V Rising’s server-side reset process. When the server starts and is about to load a save, it checks whether the configured reset interval has elapsed. If the reset is due, the server starts a new save and backs up the old save rather than silently overwriting it. The wipe is therefore tied to the server lifecycle, not to a timer that runs independently while the process is online.

With a weekday selected, both conditions must be satisfied: the interval must be due and the calendar day must match. Choosing a weekday does not specify an hour or minute. The actual reset still occurs on a qualifying server restart.

Before changing anything
Tell players what will happen
Publish the interval, selected weekday, and your planned restart window in the server message or community channel. Players need to know that the reset is not performed merely by saving the JSON file and that the next restart after the due date is the trigger.
Stop the server cleanly
Stop the dedicated server before copying or editing files. A running process can write the save while you are backing it up, leaving an inconsistent recovery copy.

Copy the complete save data and the relevant settings files into a separate folder whose name includes the date and time. Keep this backup until players have confirmed that the new season loads correctly. Include the settings file as well as the save so you can reconstruct the exact schedule if a rollback is necessary.

Edit the persistent ServerHostSettings.json override in that area. V Rising loads installation defaults first and then applies local overrides, so changing a default template can be overwritten or have no effect on the running instance.
Edit only the two schedule properties
Keep all unrelated server options already in the file. Add or change the schedule properties using the exact JSON types and casing expected by your installed server version:

Choose the interval
Set ResetDaysInterval to the number of days you want between scheduled resets. Use an integer, not a quoted string. A value of 0 turns scheduled wipes off; it does not mean “wipe immediately.” The official documentation also lists values such as 7, 14, and 37, but any interval should reflect the season length your community can sustain.
Choose the reset day
Set DayOfReset to Any when you want the interval to be the only calendar rule. This is the default behavior described by Stunlock Studios. To constrain the reset to a weekday, use its English name with matching capitalization, for example "Saturday" or "Monday". A weekday is a day condition, not a clock-time setting.

Validate and save
Check that the file remains valid JSON before starting the server. Common mistakes include a trailing comma, smart quotation marks, a missing closing brace, or placing the properties outside the top-level object. Preserve the file’s existing encoding and formatting if your hosting panel or launcher expects them.
Restart and verify the wipe schedule
- Save the validated
ServerHostSettings.jsonfile. - Start or restart the dedicated server during the announced maintenance window.
- Watch the startup output and server status for a successful load. The schedule is evaluated when the server is starting and is about to load a save.
- If the interval is due and the weekday requirement is satisfied, allow startup to complete. V Rising will create a fresh save and back up the previous save.
- Join with an administrator account and confirm that the world is new while the expected server identity and non-seasonal settings remain intact.
- Check the server listing or status interface. Scheduled-wipe servers can show the remaining days there, which gives players a visible confirmation of the configured schedule.
Changing the file without restarting does not perform an immediate reset. If the due date has passed while the server remains online, the reset waits for the next qualifying restart.
How interval and weekday rules interact
Interval only: DayOfReset set to Any
With DayOfReset set to Any, V Rising relies on ResetDaysInterval. At startup it determines whether the configured number of days has elapsed and resets when due. This is the simplest option when your team can restart on whatever day the interval produces.
Interval plus a named weekday
A named weekday adds a second gate. The elapsed-day condition must be true and the startup must occur on the selected weekday. This lets a community target a weekend maintenance day without pretending that the setting schedules a particular hour. Plan the restart window yourself; the setting does not provide a clock-time field.

The official patch wording is explicit: once the wipe date arrives, the next server restart triggers the wipe. A server that stays online through the due date can therefore continue running the old world until it is restarted. This behavior is intentional and is important when coordinating an automated host, a manual maintenance window, or an emergency restart.

Recommended schedules for different communities

These are configuration patterns, not promises about player retention or server population. Choose the interval from your own season calendar, then make the restart procedure part of that calendar.
Hosted panels versus self-hosting
Managed providers may expose the same host settings through a web panel instead of giving you direct file access. Labels can differ, including “Reset Days Interval,” “Reset Day of the Week,” or similar wording. Confirm that the panel writes the V Rising host settings described above and that it restarts the instance after saving.

Regardless of hosting model, the important test is behavioral: the configured values must reach the server process, and a restart must occur after the schedule is due.

These are useful for containerized or scripted servers that do not edit a persistent JSON file directly. The exact launcher syntax, quoting, and precedence depend on the hosting environment. Use one authoritative configuration path for each deployment and verify the effective values in the generated launch configuration or panel rather than assuming an environment variable was applied.

Troubleshooting scheduled wipes
The file changed, but no wipe happened
- Confirm that you edited the persistent override under the documented
Settingsdirectory, not an installation default template. - Check that the server was actually stopped while the file was saved and then restarted afterward.
- Verify that
ResetDaysIntervalis a positive integer and not0. - Review the selected weekday. A named day requires a matching calendar day in addition to the elapsed interval.
- Check the server listing or status display for the remaining-days value.
The server starts but ignores the new values
- Validate the JSON for syntax errors and confirm that the properties are inside the top-level object.
- Check capitalization: the property names and weekday strings must match the values expected by the installed version.
- On a hosted panel, verify that the panel saved the fields to the same host settings consumed by the server, then restart from the panel.
- If you use startup flags or environment variables, inspect the launcher’s effective configuration and resolve conflicting overrides.
The reset date passed while the server stayed online
That does not indicate a failed schedule. The documented trigger is the next server restart after the due date. Coordinate a controlled restart, allow the new save to load, and then verify the listing and world state.
The old world cannot be found after a reset
A scheduled reset is designed to back up the previous save when it creates the new one. Stop the server before investigating, preserve the backup and settings files, and check the backup location or provider retention controls. Do not start repeated resets while attempting recovery, because additional startups can make the season history harder to track.
The server resets on an unexpected day
Recheck whether DayOfReset is actually Any, whether a panel translated the field correctly, and which settings source won when the server launched. A weekday restriction is only a calendar condition; it does not select a time zone or time of day. Record the server’s restart time and the effective configuration before changing it again.
Season-change runbook
- Announce the interval, weekday (if any), and planned restart window.
- Stop the server cleanly.
- Copy the save and settings into a dated backup location.
- Open the persistent
ServerHostSettings.jsonoverride or the provider’s equivalent fields. - Set
ResetDaysIntervalandDayOfResetwith the correct JSON types and casing. - Validate and save the configuration without deleting unrelated settings.
- Restart the server after the due date and watch startup for a successful new-save load.
- Confirm the new world, check the status/listing countdown, and retain the backup until players approve the result.
This process separates configuration errors from restart timing and gives you a recoverable copy of every season transition.
