Use the Aeon Pro base station for Xbox, while PC gives you three choices: the base station, a USB-C-to-USB-A cable, or Bluetooth. Mobile devices connect over Bluetooth. On the controller, hold View + Menu, open System Select, choose XBOX, PC, or Bluetooth, and press A. When wireless pairing is active, the target device should list the controller as Aeon Pro.
What you need before starting
Charge the controller or install its battery before pairing. Put the base station where its cable can reach the Xbox or PC and the controller can reach the dock or maintain a reliable wireless connection.

The Aeon Pro uses a dual-docking base station and QuickSwitch connectivity. The critical hardware distinction is simple: Xbox wireless setup must use the base station; PC and mobile can avoid it.

Choose the right connection method
| Platform | Connection options | Base station requirement | SteelSeries GG access |
|---|---|---|---|
| Xbox | Wireless through the base station | Required | Configure through a PC connected to the station’s PC port |
| PC | Base-station wireless, USB-C-to-USB-A cable, or Bluetooth | Optional | Full Engine configuration uses the PC port on the base station |
| Mobile | Bluetooth | Not required | Not used for mobile pairing |
For the most flexible PC setup, keep the base station available: it provides wireless play and the documented path into GG. If you are traveling or the station is unavailable, a direct USB cable or Bluetooth still works on PC. Xbox does not have that fallback; it must communicate through the base station.
Set up the Aeon Pro on Xbox
1. Use the station’s Xbox port
- Connect the base station to the Xbox with the station’s dedicated Xbox port.
- Turn on the Aeon Pro controller.
Do not use the station’s PC port for the console connection. The two ports have different roles, and using the wrong one is a common reason the controller does not appear.
2. Select Xbox on the controller
- Hold View and Menu together to open the OLED settings.
- Open System Select.
- Use the d-pad to choose XBOX, then press A.
The OLED should show a pairing state. When the console completes the connection, select or confirm Aeon Pro if the Xbox presents a confirmation prompt.

Launch a game or move through the Xbox dashboard to confirm input. If the OLED remains in pairing mode, return to System Select, choose XBOX again, and check that the cable is still in the dedicated Xbox port.

From there you can manage the controller’s supported profiles and advanced controls. Keep the station connected through its PC port while making changes so GG can communicate with the controller and station.

Direct USB connection
- Connect the controller directly to the computer with a USB-C-to-USB-A cable.
- Turn on the controller if it does not wake automatically.
- Allow the operating system and game to detect the wired controller.
This method is useful when the base station is packed away, unavailable, or being used elsewhere. It avoids wireless pairing and gives the PC a direct data connection.
Bluetooth connection
- Hold View + Menu on the controller.
- Open System Select, choose Bluetooth, and press A.
- Open the computer’s Bluetooth settings and start adding a device.
- Choose Aeon Pro when it appears in the device list.
Leave the OLED in its pairing state while selecting the device. If the computer does not show the controller, cancel the search, re-enter System Select, choose Bluetooth again, and repeat the scan.

Use SteelSeries GG for deeper customization
Connect the base station to the computer’s PC port, open GG, enter Engine, and select the Aeon Pro banner. GG is the required path for deeper deadzone adjustments and shift-key controls; those options are not fully exposed in the controller-only menu.
GG also provides the documented power controls. Open the controller’s OLED & Settings area and review Power Options to change idle power-off behavior. The controller’s OLED includes the corresponding IDLE PWR OFF setting, so you can adjust it without leaving the controller menu.
Power-saving is enabled by default. A controller that shuts down after sitting unused may be behaving normally rather than losing its pairing.
Battery life and polling behavior
SteelSeries Support figures published in 2026 vary by connection, headset use, and platform. Treat them as the stated operating figures for those conditions, not as one universal runtime.
| Use case | Published battery figure | Published polling figure |
|---|---|---|
| Xbox with a headset plugged into the controller | 12.5 hours | 250 Hz |
| PC with a headset plugged into the controller | 12.5 hours | 250 Hz |
| PC without a headset | 11.5 hours | 1000 Hz over wired or wireless PC connection |
| Bluetooth | 14 hours | Not stated for this use case |
SteelSeries also states 1000 Hz polling on PC over a wired or wireless connection. On Xbox, and on PC when a headset is connected to the controller, the published figure is 250 Hz. Headset use therefore affects both the stated runtime and the stated polling mode.

Troubleshoot pairing and connection problems
The controller does not appear
- Open System Select again and choose the platform you are actually connecting to: XBOX, PC, or Bluetooth.
- For Xbox, verify that the cable is in the station’s dedicated Xbox port.
- For PC wireless and GG, verify that the cable is in the station’s PC port.
- When the OLED says pairing, look specifically for Aeon Pro in the target device’s list.
The base station works on one platform but not another
Switching the cable between ports is not optional: the Xbox port is for Xbox, while the PC port is for PC setup and GG. Move the cable to the correct port, then repeat the matching System Select choice on the controller.
The base station is unavailable on PC
Use a direct USB-C-to-USB-A cable, or select Bluetooth from the controller’s System Select menu and choose Aeon Pro in Windows Bluetooth settings. These are supported PC alternatives to the station.

Bluetooth pairing stalls
- Exit the device’s Bluetooth search.
- On the controller, hold View + Menu.
- Choose System Select > Bluetooth and press A.
- Start a fresh device scan and select Aeon Pro while pairing is shown on the OLED.
Bottom line: Xbox needs the station, PC does not
The Aeon Pro’s setup is easiest when you match the controller’s System Select mode to the connection in front of you. Xbox uses the base station’s Xbox port and the XBOX mode. PC can use the station’s PC port, a direct USB cable, or Bluetooth; use the station’s PC port when you need SteelSeries GG. Mobile uses Bluetooth. Once paired, the OLED covers routine adjustments, while GG supplies advanced deadzone, shift-key, profile, and power controls.
