- Capture the right area. Choose Region, Fullscreen, Active window, Active monitor, Scrolling capture, or another mode from ShareX’s capture commands.
- Prepare the image. Open the editor, crop unnecessary content, add arrows or text if needed, and blur or pixelate private information.

Scrolling capture
Scrolling capture combines a long page or panel into one image. It is useful for a lengthy error log or a web page that does not fit on one screen, but inspect the joins for repeated or missing content before sharing.
Recording, GIF, and auto capture
ShareX also documents screen recording, GIF recording, and auto capture. These are alternatives when a still image cannot explain a motion or timing issue. A social site may handle a video or GIF differently from a screenshot, so confirm that the uploaded URL opens the intended media type.
How do I annotate or redact a screenshot before uploading?

Controlled object storage gives you more say over retention and access, but you must configure credentials and a public or signed-link arrangement that recipients can actually open. Before relying on any destination, determine whether its returned link is direct, points to a viewing page, includes deletion controls, or expires.

How do I configure a custom uploader in ShareX?
Custom uploaders are for users who need to send images, text, or files to a service that is not already configured. ShareX can export an uploader as an .sxcu file; importing that file is done by double-clicking it.
Match the request to the service API

Does ShareX post directly to Facebook, X, Reddit, or other networks?
Official ShareX material documents URL sharing, custom uploaders, and post-upload actions, but it does not establish native posting APIs for named social networks. The reliable cross-platform method is therefore to paste the uploaded URL into the network’s composer yourself.
That manual step also lets you add context, choose the audience, attach a second image, or cancel after checking the preview. If the social site fetches a preview, wait for the preview card to finish loading before publishing. What should I check before publishing a ShareX link?

The upload fails immediately

The copied URL opens an error page

First verify the URL in a private browser window. If the image loads there, the social platform may be caching an earlier response or may not generate previews for that URL type; use the platform’s own refresh option when available or upload to a destination that returns a directly accessible image URL.
Private information remains visible
Delete the exposed upload if the destination provides a deletion link, then create a new redacted image and share a new URL. Cropping is safer than covering data with a mark when the original information must never be recoverable.

The upload works on one computer but not another
Compare the imported uploader file, destination settings, credential scope, and network restrictions. An .sxcu file may define the request format but not provide a valid key for every machine or account.
