Where to find the Waterside Ruins
The puzzle is in Duskwood, in the Hernand area, near Kilnden Workshop and the river. Use the workshop, riverbank and visible stone grid as landmarks: descriptions of the site’s compass direction vary, so the grid is the clearest confirmation you have reached the right ruins.

Make sure you are at the Waterside Ruins, identifiable by black and white stones arranged on a ground grid. Duskwood Hill Ruins is a separate puzzle involving pillars.
How to solve the stone puzzle
- Find the stone grid beside the Abyss Cresset.
- Pick up the white stone lying beside the cresset.
- Look at the stones already on the grid and identify the empty space that completes a straight line of five white stones. Use the arrangement itself rather than a compass direction; camera orientation can make directional descriptions unreliable.
- If a moss-covered creature is occupying that space, clear it from the spot first. Guides describe this as a possible obstruction, not a guaranteed encounter.
- Place the white stone in the gap and wait for the Abyss Cresset to activate.
What happens after the puzzle is solved
Once the cresset activates, claim the Abyss Artifact and use the newly opened fast-travel point. The reward and travel point are reported by third-party guides; no official developer walkthrough is cited for this puzzle.
