To view your own pictures on a PS4 or PS4 Pro, put them in a folder on a FAT32- or exFAT-formatted USB drive, then open them with Media Player. To copy gameplay screenshots off the console, use Capture Gallery’s “Copy to USB Storage Device” option instead. These are separate tasks: the USB photo-viewing method does not import ordinary pictures into Capture Gallery.
Choose the right method for your pictures
| What you want to do | Use this method | Key requirement |
|---|---|---|
| View pictures from a computer or camera on your PS4 | Media Player with a USB drive, or a media server on the same network | For USB, put the files in a folder; use JPEG, BMP, or PNG images and a FAT32- or exFAT-formatted drive. PlayStation’s Media Player announcement lists supported image formats; its USB storage guidance covers file systems. |
| Copy gameplay screenshots or clips from the PS4 | Capture Gallery’s “Copy to USB Storage Device” option | Connect supported USB storage. Sony’s Capture Gallery instructions give the export steps. |
| Move screenshots and clips to a replacement PS4 Pro with other console data | PS4-to-PS4 Pro data transfer | Sony’s 2016 migration guide describes both consoles, network and sign-in preparation, and a LAN cable connection. |
View personal pictures from a USB drive
- Put the image files in a folder. On a computer, copy the pictures into a folder on the USB drive. Sony’s media guidance says image and video files on external storage need to be in a folder.
- Use a compatible file system. Format the drive as FAT32 or exFAT. Sony’s USB troubleshooting guidance also identifies FAT or exFAT as supported file systems: USB device support.
- Connect the drive to the PS4 and open Media Player from the content area.
- Install Media Player if needed. If it is not already available, find Media Player in the content area or Library and download it from PlayStation Store, as described in Sony’s Media Player guidance.
- Select the USB drive and open a picture. The published image formats are JPEG (DCF 2.0/Exif 2.21), BMP, and PNG, according to PlayStation’s Media Player announcement.
If you do not want to use a USB drive, Media Player can also show a media server available on the same network. Sony’s Media Player instructions describe selecting a media server as a source.

These steps are from Sony’s Capture Gallery support page.

Move captures to a new PS4 Pro
If you are replacing a PS4 with a PS4 Pro and want screenshots and videos to move along with other console content, use the full PS4-to-PS4 Pro data-transfer process rather than exporting captures one by one. Sony’s 2016 guide includes screenshots and videos among the data categories you can select. It describes updating and signing in on both consoles, preparing the old console, connecting the consoles with a LAN cable either directly or through a router, and choosing what to transfer. Since that guide dates to 2016, follow the prompts shown by your consoles if current menu wording differs.
