You cannot start Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance on Xbox yet. Capcom has announced the paid expansion for 2027 on Xbox Series X|S, but has not announced an exact launch day, Xbox price, store listing, download size, or the in-game quest or menu that begins it. When the Xbox listing goes live, you will need the base game Monster Hunter Wilds, an updated installation, and a purchased copy of Ascendance. Install the expansion, then use the activation prompt Capcom provides in-game. Do not rely on guides that name a particular NPC, quest rank, or unlock condition before Capcom confirms those details.
What Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is
Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance is a paid, large-scale expansion for Monster Hunter Wilds. Capcom announced it on June 8, 2026, describing it as a continuation of the main story with new quest ranks, new locales, additional monsters, and expanded weapon actions through new gameplay features. The announcement lists PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC as platforms, with a 2027 release window.

The expansion is not a free update or a separate Xbox game that replaces Monster Hunter Wilds. It is additional content for the parent game. You will therefore need access to the base game on an Xbox Series X|S before Ascendance can be used.

Use an Xbox Series X or Series S
Capcom lists Xbox Series X|S for both the original game and Ascendance. The announcement does not list Xbox One. If you own an Xbox One, the announced platform information does not establish that Ascendance will run there; an Xbox Series X or Series S is the confirmed Xbox target.

- Wild New Adventure – Monster Hunter Wilds follows the story of a special Research Commission investigating the Forbidden Lands. Fully voiced for the first time in the series, the hunter is joined in their journey by a colorful cast of characters, including a Palico partner, Guild-appointed Handler Alma, trusty smithy Gemma, and the mysterious child Nata. Together, the team ventures into an unexplored new frontier where surprises await around every corner.
- A Living World – The Forbidden Lands spans multiple biomes with dynamic identities, such as the Windward Plains and Scarlet Forest, where the ecosystems shift between vibrant seasons brimming with life, and unforgiving climates where monsters fight over limited resources. Changes in the landscape will impact the creatures that live there and push hunters to adapt as well.
- New Monsters and Wildlife – Monster Hunter Wilds features a variety of new creatures, ranging from herds of small species to large monsters – some of which roam the Forbidden Lands in packs. Every creature hunters encounter in the wild has carved out a special place in its habitat and possesses unique attacks and behaviors.
- Evolved Hunting Action – The series’ acclaimed action-packed gameplay is back and more exciting than ever! Hunters can look forward to tracking down monsters with an array of new moves, special abilities, equipment, and more. The action also now flows seamlessly from cutscenes to gameplay, resulting in a new level of immersion.
- Crossplay Multiplayer – Alongside the option to enjoy the story of Monster Hunter Wilds solo, hunters can join up to three other players across any platform to explore the world together and take on the game’s challenges as a hunting party or receive aid from notable story characters as Support Hunter NPCs.
Own the base game
You need Monster Hunter Wilds, released on February 28, 2025, before you can play its expansion. The Xbox Store currently lists Monster Hunter Wilds Gold Edition, published by Capcom, for Xbox Series X|S. That edition contains the main game and the Cosmetic DLC Collection. It does not represent Ascendance, and buying it does not establish ownership of the expansion.
Keep the game updated
Install the newest available update for Monster Hunter Wilds before searching for Ascendance or attempting to launch its content. Capcom has not published an Ascendance-specific patch number or download size, so there is no confirmed update identifier to look for yet.
Plan for a separate expansion purchase
Capcom calls Ascendance paid content. The company has not stated the Xbox price or whether it will be sold only as an add-on, as part of a bundle, or in both formats. Wait for the official Xbox listing before assuming a price, edition name, preorder bonus, or upgrade route.

- Confirm your console. Make sure you are using an Xbox Series X or Series S, the Xbox platform named in Capcom’s announcement for Ascendance.
- Install the parent game. Have Monster Hunter Wilds installed and playable on the same Xbox account that will own the expansion. The Gold Edition is one currently listed way to obtain the base game with cosmetic extras; it does not include Ascendance.
- Apply the latest game update. Use Xbox’s standard update controls for Monster Hunter Wilds and allow the installation to finish. The required update number and size for Ascendance have not been announced.
- Open the official Xbox store listing. Purchase the Ascendance product only after Capcom and Xbox publish the listing. Check whether the item is an add-on, a bundle, or an edition that includes the base game before confirming the transaction.
- Install the expansion. Start the download from the official listing or your Xbox library after purchase. The final storage requirement and installation sequence are not yet stated by Capcom.
- Launch the updated base game. Start Monster Hunter Wilds after the expansion finishes installing. Capcom has not yet said whether Ascendance will appear as a title-screen option, a new menu item, an automatic story continuation, or an in-game conversation.
- Follow the confirmed activation prompt. Use the quest, menu, or notification that Capcom documents at launch. Do not search for a named NPC, quest rank, or progression gate based on unofficial instructions; none has been confirmed in the June 8, 2026 announcement.
What you can prepare before 2027
Verify your hardware and account
- Confirm that the console is an Xbox Series X or Series S.
- Sign in to the Xbox account that owns or will purchase Monster Hunter Wilds.
- Check that the base game launches normally before buying any expansion.
Leave room for an additional installation
Ascendance’s download size has not been announced. Keep practical free storage available on the console, but do not treat any unofficial size estimate as a requirement. The final figure should come from the Xbox listing or Capcom’s launch instructions.
Watch the correct official announcements
The June 8, 2026 Capcom announcement establishes the 2027 window and Xbox Series X|S platform. A later Capcom announcement and the Xbox store page should establish the exact date, price, edition structure, installation details, and starting instructions. Those are the sources to check when planning a purchase.
What is confirmed about the content
Ascendance continues the main story rather than presenting an unrelated side game. Capcom specifically identifies four expansion areas:
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →- New quest ranks: additional progression tiers beyond those in the base game.
- New locales: extra environments to explore and hunt in.
- Additional monsters: new hunt targets.
- Expanded weapon actions: broader weapon gameplay through new features.
Capcom has not published the names, count, release-day availability, or unlock order for these additions. Avoid treating leaks, retailer descriptions, or community speculation as a confirmed content list.

Buying options to compare when they appear
Capcom has not announced the Xbox product structure. If multiple listings appear, compare them by the items below rather than by edition names alone.
| Purchase question | Why it matters | What is currently established |
|---|---|---|
| Is the base game included? | New players need Monster Hunter Wilds as well as the expansion. | The Xbox Gold Edition currently includes the main game and Cosmetic DLC Collection; Ascendance is not identified as included. |
| Is Ascendance included? | A base-game bundle may not grant expansion access. | Capcom has announced Ascendance as paid content but has not published Xbox bundle contents. |
| Are cosmetic items included? | Cosmetic DLC can change the value of a bundle without changing gameplay access. | The Gold Edition includes the Cosmetic DLC Collection; Capcom has not stated whether Ascendance editions include cosmetics. |
| Is there an upgrade price? | Owners of the base game may receive a different price from new buyers if Capcom creates an upgrade route. | No Xbox upgrade or bundle pricing has been announced. |
| Is the license digital or physical? | The license format affects how you install and access the game. | Capcom has not announced the physical or digital Xbox format for Ascendance. |
Release timing on Xbox
The only confirmed timing is 2027. Capcom has not announced a month, day, simultaneous launch schedule, preorder date, or regional release time. “2027” should therefore be treated as a release window, not as a date on which the expansion can already be downloaded.
The base game launched on February 28, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with crossplay support. That launch history confirms the Xbox platform for the parent game, but it does not establish Ascendance’s exact release-hour policy or any new crossplay rules.
Why the base-game edition can cause confusion
The Xbox Store’s Monster Hunter Wilds Gold Edition is a listing for the original game plus the Cosmetic DLC Collection. Because its name sounds like a premium or complete package, a buyer could incorrectly assume it includes every future expansion. The confirmed description does not say that it includes Ascendance.

When shopping, read the product contents and platform line. A listing that says “Xbox Series X|S” and includes the main game is not automatically an Ascendance listing. Look for an explicit statement that Ascendance is included.

The expansion does not appear in the store
Check the date and region shown on the official Xbox listing, then confirm that you are searching for the add-on rather than the base game or Gold Edition. If Capcom has not published the listing yet, there is no confirmed Xbox purchase path to follow.
The game says content is missing after purchase
Verify that the expansion download completed on the Xbox account that owns it, then restart the updated base game. If the store shows ownership but the game does not, use the support instructions attached to the official Xbox listing or Capcom’s launch support page. Do not buy a second copy before checking the account and edition contents.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsNo new quest or menu is visible
Capcom has not announced the activation method or any story prerequisite. Confirm that both the base game update and the expansion installation finished, then consult the official launch instructions. A particular NPC, quest rank, or menu label cannot be confirmed in advance.

The console is an Xbox One
Ascendance is announced for Xbox Series X|S, not Xbox One. The available platform information does not promise an Xbox One version or a backward-compatible expansion installation.
Crossplay and ownership context
Capcom’s March 31, 2025 release record confirms that the base game supports crossplay across its PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC versions. The announcement does not specify whether Ascendance will change crossplay behavior, require every participant to own the expansion, or apply different rules to multiplayer sessions. Wait for Capcom’s expansion-specific multiplayer terms.
Capcom reported more than 10 million Monster Hunter Wilds units sold worldwide in 2025. That figure describes the base game’s reported sales and is not an indicator of Ascendance’s price, availability, or Xbox entitlement.
