To start playing Roblox, create or sign in to an account, open an experience, and select Play. On a computer, that installs Roblox Player if needed; select Play again to launch the experience. You do not need Roblox Studio unless you want to create experiences.
1. Create or sign in to a Roblox account
Roblox says users can create an account from age five. Enter your correct birthday: Roblox uses it to determine access to age-appropriate features and content. Do not change your birth date to bypass age limits or restrictions. Roblox Support explains that accurate age information helps provide age-appropriate features.
If you already have an account, sign in rather than creating a second one. Keep your login details private, especially when setting up an account for a child.
2. Check whether your device is supported
For computer installation, Roblox lists these operating-system requirements:

Roblox provides separate mobile requirements, but the available official guidance here does not specify the minimum iOS or Android versions. Check Roblox’s current computer hardware and operating-system requirements and the mobile requirements for your device before troubleshooting compatibility.
3. Install Roblox Player and join an experience on a computer
- Go to the Roblox website and sign in.
- Open the page for an experience you want to play.
- Select Play. Follow the prompt to install Roblox Player if it is not already installed. Your browser or operating system may show its own confirmation prompt.
- After installation, select Play on the experience page again to launch it in Roblox Player.
Roblox’s install and play instructions describe this desktop flow. If the experience does not open, check whether the installation prompt was blocked or still needs confirmation, then try selecting Play again.

4. Know which Roblox app you need
Roblox Player is for joining and playing experiences. Roblox Studio is a separate application for creating experiences; installing Studio is not part of the basic setup for playing. Roblox provides Studio installation guidance from its installation and play support page.

A parent can use a Roblox account with parent privileges, link it to the child’s account, and manage controls through Roblox.com or the iOS or Android app. Available controls include content maturity settings; linked parents can also view usage information such as daily screen time and on-platform friends. Some communication and content features depend on the user’s age, account settings, and region. Roblox says users under nine need parental consent to enable game chat. Age checks apply to particular features, not universally to beginning play; Roblox describes facial age estimation and ID verification as methods for completing checks, with ID verification available only to users 13 and older. Availability and requirements can vary by region. Review the current age-check guidance and parent controls information before enabling a feature.
