Under The Island is available digitally on both PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. The PlayStation Store lists PS4 and PS5 editions, while Nintendo lists a Switch edition; both storefronts give February 17, 2026 as the release date. Free demos are also listed, although availability depends on your regional store. Use the steps below to find the correct edition, try the demo where offered, and begin Nia’s top-down island adventure without relying on an undocumented control scheme or tutorial sequence.
Is Under The Island available on PS5 and Nintendo Switch?
Yes. You can start Under The Island on either console through its digital storefront. The PlayStation Store listing covers both the PS4 and PS5 digital versions, and Nintendo lists a Nintendo Switch version. The two listings identify the same single-player, top-down adventure: you play as Nia, explore an island with the local girl Avocado, fight unusual enemies, solve puzzles and investigate why the island is threatened with sinking.

Both storefront listings use February 17, 2026 as the release date. Store pages are regional, so the edition name, language information, demo status and purchase options you see can differ from the examples below. Always check the listing attached to the account and country you will use to play.

What you need before downloading
A console account for the correct region
Digital stores display products according to your account region. Sign in to the PlayStation Network account or Nintendo Account you intend to use, then search that store directly. A demo shown in one country is not proof that the same demo appears in another country. If a result is missing, check the country setting and the store’s age or parental controls before assuming the game is unavailable.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
System software and storage
Install any pending console update before downloading. The PlayStation listing specifically warns that updated system software may be required for PS5 play. On Switch, leave more free space than the published 638 MB download size so the system can create temporary installation data and future updates; the listing’s figure is the download specification for the Canadian product page, not a promise about every region or the game’s eventual installed footprint.
A choice between demo and full game
If your regional listing provides a demo, use it to confirm that the game’s top-down presentation, exploration and puzzle-focused play suit you. A demo is a separate store item from the full game, so select the entry clearly marked as a demo rather than assuming that downloading the main listing starts a trial. If no demo appears, the store may not offer one in your territory at that time.
How to start Under The Island on PS5
- Open the PlayStation Store. From the PS5 home screen, select the Store icon and use its search field for Under The Island. Check the product title and publisher information so you do not choose an unrelated result.
- Inspect the platform labels. The US product page presents PS4 and PS5 digital versions together. Read the edition panel on your account’s page and confirm that PS5 is included before completing a purchase.
- Install the demo first, if available. Choose the separately labelled free PS5 demo (or the PS4 demo if you intend to play that version). Select Download and wait for the installation to finish. A demo’s presence is region-dependent.
- Install the full game when you are ready. On the full product page, select the purchase or download control shown for your account. The exact price and any discount are live store data and can change, so rely on the current checkout screen rather than an old listing or search result.
- Allow the console to finish the download. You can monitor progress from Downloads/Uploads on the PS5 control centre. Do not launch until the console reports that the playable installation is ready; a background installation can leave some content unavailable.
- Apply required system software. If the store or console requests an update, install it and restart the game. The product listing’s warning means an update can be a prerequisite, not that every PS5 will need the same version.
- Launch from Game Library. Open the game tile after installation. If both PS4 and PS5 versions are installed, use the version selector on the game’s options menu to launch the version you intend; the labels shown can vary with the current system software.
- Read the opening prompts. The official store descriptions do not publish a button map or a step-by-step tutorial. Follow the prompts displayed in your game, and open its settings if you need to review controls, text options or other accessibility choices.
If the PS5 listing does not appear
- Search without punctuation and try the title exactly as Under The Island.
- Confirm that you are searching the PlayStation Store, not only your installed library.
- Check the account’s country, age restrictions and parental-control filters.
- Look for a product page that identifies both PS4 and PS5. A PS4-only result is not the same entitlement as the combined listing.
- Restart the Store or the console after a system update if a newly released product is not indexed immediately.
How to start Under The Island on Nintendo Switch
- Open Nintendo eShop. Select the eShop icon from the Switch HOME Menu and choose the account that will own the download.
- Search for the title. Enter Under The Island in the store search. Open the result and verify that it is the one-player adventure rather than a similarly named item.
- Check the edition and demo panel. Nintendo UK marks a demo as available. If your regional page shows a Demo button, select it and install the trial before buying the full game. If the button is absent, do not assume that changing consoles will create access; demo catalogues are regional.
- Check free space and download. Nintendo Canada lists the download at 638 MB. Keep additional storage available, then choose the purchase or download option displayed for your account. The checkout amount and tax are determined by your region and are not fixed by that Canadian specification.
- Wait for the HOME Menu icon to finish installing. You can start when the system makes the game available, but letting the download complete avoids interruptions when the opening area loads additional data.
- Choose how to play. Nintendo’s listing supports handheld, tabletop and TV modes. Use the mode that matches your current setup; the game remains a single-system, one-player experience.
- Start the game and follow its prompts. The storefront material does not document the first button prompts or a precise tutorial route. Read the on-screen instructions and consult the in-game settings for the control display rather than relying on a generic Switch control chart.
If the Switch result or demo is missing
- Check the eShop account’s country and confirm that you are not viewing a different regional catalogue.
- Review the product page’s release and availability panel instead of trusting a search thumbnail.
- Verify that parental controls or a supervised account are not hiding the listing.
- Restart eShop after installing a system update and search again.
- If the download stalls, pause and resume it from the HOME Menu, check the console’s connection and confirm that sufficient internal or microSD storage remains.
Which version should you choose?
The practical choice is usually the console you already own and the way you want to play. The available store information does not establish a frame-rate, resolution, loading-time or control advantage for either platform, so do not select one on the basis of an unverified performance claim.

| Switch between portable and television play | Nintendo Switch edition | Nintendo lists handheld, tabletop and TV modes in addition to single-system play. | No published claim here about battery life, resolution in each mode or control differences. |
| You want to test the game first | The demo offered by your regional store | A free demo is listed on the US PlayStation page and a demo is marked available on Nintendo UK. | Demo length, save carry-over and the exact amount of content are not stated. |

What to expect when the adventure begins
Nia and Avocado’s investigation
You control Nia as she investigates the island’s threatened sinking with Avocado, a local girl. That premise gives the opening its direction, but the store descriptions do not identify a particular first quest, named location or required item. The safest way to begin is to read the dialogue and objective prompts rather than looking for a walkthrough that assumes an undocumented sequence.

Top-down exploration
The game is presented from a top-down perspective. The official descriptions refer to interconnected regions, so expect movement between linked parts of the island instead of a single isolated arena. Watch the edges of the current area, note paths that appear blocked and revisit places when the game’s prompts indicate that a new route or clue is available. These are practical habits for a connected-world adventure, not claims about a specific map layout or gating system.
Combat
Enemies are part of the published description. When the game introduces an encounter, use the on-screen instructions to learn movement, attacks, timing and any defensive action the current control scheme provides. The available store text does not specify weapon types, enemy health, difficulty settings or a fixed combat tutorial, so those details should be learned from the game itself.
Puzzles and environmental clues
Puzzle solving is another named part of the experience. Examine the immediate area, read signs or dialogue and test the interactions the game highlights. If a puzzle does not respond, check whether an objective or conversation must be completed first; do not assume that every visible object is interactive. There is no published walkthrough for the opening sequence, so a precise solution would require inventing details that the official listings do not provide.
Controls, tutorial prompts and accessibility
Neither storefront description supplies a complete button map, opening tutorial script or exact first objective. That limitation matters when following online advice: a guide that states a particular button or sequence may be describing a different platform, a later build or an unsupported assumption.

When you first gain control, pause and inspect the game’s settings. Look for control display, vibration, text, language and accessibility categories; the names and available toggles are determined by the game version you installed. Keep the console’s own controller-help overlay available if you need to identify a system button, but treat it as separate from the game’s action mapping.
Using the demo intelligently
On PS5
The US PlayStation listing offers free PS4 and PS5 demos. Select the demo that matches the version you plan to play, install it, and use the opening session to evaluate the camera perspective, movement feel, combat readability and puzzle presentation. The listing does not state how far the demo goes or whether progress transfers to the full game, so assume neither unless your regional product page explicitly says so.
On Switch
Nintendo UK marks a demo as available. Open the eShop page for your account and verify that a Demo button is present before downloading. Try the mode you expect to use most—handheld, tabletop or TV—and check text readability and control comfort in that mode. Nintendo’s listing does not state demo length or save transfer, so treat the trial as a way to judge the basic experience rather than as a guaranteed continuation.

When no demo is listed
Demo catalogues can differ by country and can change over time. If your store has only a purchase button, there is no confirmed trial for that account at the moment you checked. Do not use an unrelated regional account merely to obtain a listing unless you understand the account, payment and entitlement consequences; the reliable choice is to follow the availability shown in your own store.

Languages and regional store differences
Language labels differ between the published regional pages. Nintendo UK lists Japanese, English, German and Chinese. Nintendo Canada spells out Japanese, German, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and American English. Those lists are not interchangeable promises for every country, so verify the language section on your own product page before buying.
| Store page cited | Languages listed there | How to use the information |
|---|---|---|
| Nintendo UK | Japanese, English, German and Chinese | Useful as an indication of supported languages, but the page does not distinguish every Chinese or English variant. |
| Nintendo Canada | Japanese, German, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and American English | More specific labels for that Canadian listing; do not assume every region uses the same set. |
PlayStation and Nintendo account regions can also affect currency, tax, age ratings and demo visibility. Read the complete store page for your country, especially if a language or edition is essential to you.

- The game is single-player and top-down, with exploration, combat and puzzles.
- Nia and Avocado investigate an island threatened with sinking.
- Switch supports handheld, tabletop and TV modes.
- Nintendo Canada lists a 638 MB download and Switch 2 support.
- Demos are listed on the US PlayStation page and Nintendo UK page.
The available descriptions do not establish the following details:
- The exact opening objective, tutorial order or first map route.
- A complete button map for PS5 or Switch.
- Save-transfer behaviour between a demo and the full game, or between platforms.
- Performance differences, resolution, frame rate or loading times.
- Physical-media availability, current merchant inventory or a permanent price.
- The duration or content boundary of either demo.
Use the game’s prompts and the current regional store page for those items. Treat a third-party claim as unverified unless it matches information supplied for your exact platform and edition.
Troubleshooting after installation
The game will not launch on PS5
- Check the download status and allow all installation content to complete.
- Install the system-software update requested by the store or console.
- Confirm that you launched the PS5 version included in the combined product listing, if both versions are present.
- Restart the console and try the title from Game Library rather than a stale home-screen shortcut.
- If the problem continues, use PlayStation’s account and license-restoration support for your region; the storefront listing itself does not document a game-specific fix.
The Switch download is unavailable or stops
- Verify the eShop account region and the product page’s current availability.
- Check free storage beyond the published 638 MB download figure.
- Test the network connection, pause and resume the download, then restart the console.
- Install any pending system update and reopen eShop.
- If the icon remains unavailable, consult Nintendo support for the account country and purchase status rather than buying the game again.
The controls feel unclear
Pause the game and inspect its settings for a control display or tutorial recap. Re-read the current objective and on-screen prompts. Because no official button map or exact tutorial sequence is published in the store descriptions, avoid forcing a control layout from another game or another platform.

- Check free storage; the Canadian Switch listing gives 638 MB as the download size.
- Open the exact product page and verify the platform label.
- Look for a regional demo before buying the full game.
- On PS5, confirm whether the combined listing includes both PS4 and PS5 versions.
- On Switch, choose handheld, tabletop or TV mode according to how you plan to play.
- At the start, read every prompt and inspect settings instead of relying on an assumed button map.
- Keep track of clues and blocked routes as you move through interconnected regions.
- For language-critical purchases, verify the language list on your own regional store page.
Bottom line for choosing where to begin
Choose the PS5 version if you want the PlayStation Store’s combined PS4/PS5 digital entitlement and will play on a PlayStation. Choose the Switch version if handheld, tabletop and TV flexibility matters, or if you own Switch 2 and your regional listing confirms compatibility. In either case, start with the demo when your store offers one, then let the game teach its controls and opening objectives through its own prompts. The official listings establish the platform availability and broad adventure structure; they do not justify promises about performance, save transfer or a specific tutorial route.
