To stream games from your Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S to a Windows PC, use Xbox Remote Play in the Xbox PC app. The game runs on your console and its video and audio stream to your PC; this is different from Xbox Cloud Gaming, which streams a game from Xbox’s cloud.
What you need for Xbox Remote Play on PC
- A supported console: Xbox lists Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles, with remote features enabled.
- A Windows PC: The Xbox PC app lists Windows 10 or 11, version 22H2 or later. The app listing specifies 150 MB of storage and a 720p display; individual games may have different requirements. See the Xbox PC app requirements.
- An Xbox account: Xbox lists a Microsoft account with an Xbox profile.
- A network connection: Xbox’s Remote Play page recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi or mobile data with at least 10 Mbps download speed. That is Xbox’s stated connection guidance, not a guarantee of smooth play or a latency target. See Xbox Remote Play.
How to start streaming from your Xbox to your PC
- On your console, make sure remote features are enabled. Xbox identifies this as a requirement for Remote Play.
- On your Windows PC, install or open the Xbox PC app and sign in with the Microsoft account linked to your Xbox profile.
- Find and open the app’s Remote Play feature, then select your console to connect and play a game installed on it.
Xbox’s public pages confirm the feature and its baseline requirements but do not give a complete menu-by-menu setup walkthrough. If Remote Play is not available in the app, confirm that you are signed in, using a listed console and supported Windows version, and that remote features are enabled on the console.
Remote Play or Xbox Cloud Gaming?

The Xbox PC app advertises Remote Play and Cloud Gaming as separate features. Remote Play is the direct route when you mean streaming from your own Xbox.
Do you need an Xbox controller?
A controller is a practical input option for many console games, but the cited Xbox PC Remote Play information does not establish that a particular controller—or the Xbox Wireless Controller—is mandatory on PC. Xbox’s explicit Bluetooth-controller note applies to mobile devices, so it should not be treated as a PC requirement.
