Which Mohg can you summon the Dung Eater for?
This summon applies to Mohg, the Omen, the boss in Leyndell’s Subterranean Shunning-Grounds. It does not refer to Mohg, Lord of Blood.
How to unlock the Dung Eater summon
- Find the Dung Eater in his cell beneath Leyndell.
- Open the cell and speak to him. Choose the release option, listed in the quest entry as “Leave your gaol!” (Dung Eater quest reference).
- Return to Mohg, the Omen’s arena and check outside the fog gate for the Dung Eater NPC summon sign. The reference identifies his release from the cell as the prerequisite for making him available for this fight (Mohg, the Omen reference).
The documented condition is that Dung Eater has been released. Later quest choices may affect availability, but the references do not establish a complete list of sign lockouts; the summon is not guaranteed to remain available in every later quest state.
The NPC summon and Puppet Spirit Ash are different
You do not need to obtain the Dung Eater Puppet Spirit Ash to summon him for Mohg, the Omen. The sign outside the arena calls the NPC as a cooperator. The Puppet Spirit Ash is a separate item that summons a puppet version of Dung Eater and follows Seluvis’s quest and purchase route; its listed cost is 5 Starlight Shards (Dung Eater Puppet reference).

If the summon sign is missing
- Confirm you are at Mohg, the Omen’s arena in the Subterranean Shunning-Grounds, not at Mohg, Lord of Blood’s arena.
- Check that you released Dung Eater from his Leyndell cell rather than only speaking to him there.
- Look outside the boss fog for the NPC sign; the Puppet Spirit Ash is not a substitute for this sign.
- If those conditions are met and the sign still does not appear, later quest-state effects are not fully established by the available references, so a specific lockout cannot be confirmed here.
Don’t confuse this with Morgott
Dung Eater is also listed as a possible summon for Morgott, but that is a separate encounter. For Mohg, the relevant fight is Mohg, the Omen, and the relevant step is releasing Dung Eater from his cell.
