Mario Kart World lets you take in-game photos while exploring in Free Roam, and its Photo Mode adds filters, collected stickers, and frames. You can rotate the camera, pose, and add effects; Nintendo also says Free Roam shots can be shared with friends through the Nintendo Switch mobile app.
How to take photos in Mario Kart World
Use Free Roam to explore the world and take pictures at scenic spots. Nintendo describes the in-game camera as letting you rotate the view, strike a pose, and add effects. See Nintendo’s Free Roam feature guide for the official overview.
Photo Mode is also available from the pause menu. Nintendo’s update notes confirm that photos taken there can use filters. The sources do not specify the exact button sequence for taking or saving an image, so consult the game’s current on-screen instructions for the controls on your setup.

Filters
Nintendo says Ver. 1.8.0 added filters for photos taken with Photo Mode from the pause menu. The update announcement is available at Nintendo’s Ver. 1.8.0 update page.

Stickers and frames
Nintendo’s June 30, 2026 announcement for Ver. 1.7.0 says collected stickers can be placed in Photo Mode and combined with frames. Stickers can be positioned with touch controls or Joy-Con 2 mouse controls. Details are in Nintendo’s Ver. 1.7.0 update announcement.
How to share your photos
Nintendo says Free Roam photos can be shared with friends using the Nintendo Switch mobile app. Its feature page does not give a current step-by-step export process, nor does it establish where photos are stored. Follow the app and in-game prompts for the available sharing options rather than assuming a particular transfer or save workflow.

Photo Mode, race replays, and CameraPlay are different
Race replays are for reviewing a race
After a race, replay controls let you rewind and fast-forward to review performance. Nintendo developer Hideki Sato describes that feature as a way to revisit race moments, but Nintendo’s description does not confirm that replays can export photos or videos. Photo Mode is the documented tool for taking still pictures. Read Nintendo’s developer interview.
CameraPlay puts players’ faces on screen
CameraPlay displays players’ faces during Multiplayer or Online Play; it is separate from taking in-game photos. It requires a compatible USB camera, such as the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, connected before selecting a mode. For online CameraPlay, Nintendo Support requires GameChat; GameChat has persistent internet and Nintendo Switch Online membership requirements. These are CameraPlay and GameChat requirements, not prerequisites for Free Roam photography or Photo Mode. See Nintendo Support’s CameraPlay instructions.
