Use a locate command to get a village’s coordinates, then teleport to those coordinates. In Bedrock, the documented command is /locate structure village. The exact village argument can differ in Java and between versions, so use command suggestions or /help locate if the command is rejected.

Before you start: enable commands

  • Bedrock singleplayer: Open the world settings, select the Game tab, and turn on Allow Cheats. Minecraft’s guide warns that enabling cheats permanently disables achievements for that world, even if you later turn cheats off.
  • Java singleplayer: Turn on Allow Commands when creating the world. In an existing world, open World Options and enable Allow Commands.
  • Multiplayer: You need sufficient permissions to run commands. On someone else’s server, ask the owner for operator status or another permission grant.

Enter commands in chat with a leading slash. Minecraft’s command guide notes that Tab can autocomplete command entries and arguments.

Find a village and teleport to it

  1. Open chat and locate a village. In Bedrock, enter /locate structure village. For Java, use the village structure argument accepted by your version; if unsure, start typing /locate and use the suggestions, or enter /help locate.
  2. Read the coordinates in chat. The locate command searches for the nearest matching structure in your current dimension. If it reports that the structure was not found, try another dimension or location where a village may exist.
  3. Teleport to the reported coordinates. In Bedrock, enter /tp @s <x> <y> <z>, replacing the placeholders with the coordinates from chat. The documented /teleport command can also be used in place of /tp.
  4. Check where you land. The coordinates identify the structure, but do not guarantee a safe or convenient entrance. Bedrock’s teleport command has an optional checkForBlocks argument that can prevent teleporting when blocks occupy the destination; it does not guarantee an ideal landing spot.

Why the command may not work

  • “Unknown structure” or invalid argument: The village identifier may differ by edition or version. Use in-game command suggestions or /help locate rather than assuming the Bedrock example works in Java.
  • No structure found: Locate searches the current dimension and can return an error if no matching village is found there.
  • Permission error: Enable commands in your singleplayer world or ask the multiplayer server owner for the permissions needed to run them.
