McDonald’s Pokémon promo cards can be worth collecting for their artwork, nostalgia, or the challenge of completing a set—but a promotional release is not automatically rare or profitable. Most priced Western English cards in one historical sample sold for only a few dollars raw; some older Japanese and regional cards are notable exceptions. To judge a specific card, match its year, country, language, number, finish, and condition to recent comparable sales.
There is also a new U.S. campaign on the calendar: McDonald’s announced on October 29, 2026, that a Pokémon Happy Meal is scheduled to begin at participating U.S. restaurants on November 10. Its card checklist, finishes, pack odds, and resale prices had not been announced as of October 30, 2026, so its cards cannot yet be responsibly labeled rare or valuable.

Are McDonald’s Pokémon cards worth anything?
Yes, but value depends on the exact card and what “worth” means to you. A card can be worth keeping because you like the Pokémon or want to complete a collection even if its resale value is modest. For a financial estimate, look at matched, completed sales—not a high seller asking price, a broad search for “McDonald’s Pikachu,” or an estimate for a different printing.
A 2026 compilation by Folio found that 47 of 52 priced English cards from Western campaigns between 2011 and 2021, excluding the 2016 European set, were mostly in the $2–$12 raw range when measured on September 24, 2026. That is a bounded historical sample, not a price rule for every release or a forecast. Older Japanese promos and certain regional cards can have quite different values.

Before deciding whether a card is valuable, establish its identity: campaign year, country and language, card or promo number, finish, and condition. “Pikachu” or even a matching number alone may not be enough: normal and holo versions of the same numbered card can have separate market references.
What makes one McDonald’s promo different from another?
These cards come from separate campaigns, not one continuous set. The year, region, and release determine which cards exist and how they are identified, so a card from one campaign should not be treated as interchangeable with a similar-looking card from another.

Pokémon’s 2023 Match Battle announcement described four-card packs and 15 cards to collect. McDonald’s U.S. announcement in January 2025 also described four-card packs drawn from 15 available cards. Those formats do not describe the 2021 anniversary collection, which has 25 card identities and 50 tracked printings when normal and confetti-holo versions are counted separately.
Do not assume that a card count, pack size, or finish distribution from one year applies to another. The 2026 U.S. announcement says there will be 15 collectible cards and 15 collectible toys, but does not establish the pack configuration or which finish, if any, a particular pack contains.
Finish and condition matter
A holofoil or confetti-holo finish may be more sought after than a normal finish, but shiny does not automatically mean scarce. A raw card and a professionally graded card are also different comparison categories. A high-grade sale is not a reliable price for an ungraded copy, even when the printed card number matches.

Is my McDonald’s Pikachu holo worth more?
It may be, but compare the same printing and use prices with their dates and sources attached. The available 2021 Pikachu snapshots below are not a same-day comparison: one is for the normal version and one is for the holofoil, and the measurements were taken 24 days apart.
| Card or service | Reported figure | What the figure represents |
|---|---|---|
| 2021 Pikachu 25/25 holofoil | $25.69 | TCGVibes’ TCGplayer-derived market-price snapshot as of October 2, 2026; an estimate, not a guaranteed sale. |
| 2021 Pikachu 25/25 normal, near mint | $3.34 | TCGVibes’ TCGplayer-derived market-price snapshot as of October 26, 2026. |
| 2021 Pikachu 25/25 normal | $4.00 | TCGVibes’ median seller asking price as of October 26, 2026; an asking price is not proof of a completed sale. |
| 2021 Pikachu 25/25 page estimate | $17.50 raw near mint; $335 PSA 10 | CardTrack estimates updated October 19, 2026. The page is not explicit about whether its raw estimate isolates the holofoil, so it should not be averaged with the variant-specific TCGVibes figures. CardTrack reported 196 recorded sales across grades since 2025 and medium price confidence. |
| Japanese 2002 Minimum Pack Squirtle 007/018 | $1,566 raw across nine recorded sales | Folio’s figure measured September 24, 2026; an exceptional older Japanese card, not a typical Happy Meal single. |
| Japanese 2025 Pikachu 020/M-P | $23.12 raw across 20 recorded sales | Folio’s figure measured September 24, 2026; this is a Japanese promo with a different number from the 2021 25/25 card. |
Prices and plans checked October 2026. These figures come from different publishers, dates, variants, and methods. They illustrate why a single search result should not be treated as a definitive value. Folio’s historical series does not separate holo and non-holo versions for 2021, so use a variant-specific reference when estimating one of those cards.
What’s the rarest McDonald’s Pokémon card?
There is no well-supported single answer across all McDonald’s campaigns and regions. “Rare” can refer to a card’s distribution, a particular finish, scarcity in high grades, limited regional availability, or strong buyer demand; those are not the same thing.
One frequently discussed 2021 Pikachu illustrates the distinction. CardTrack reported 8,498 PSA-graded copies of Pikachu 25/25 and 3,111 PSA 10 copies as of October 18, 2026. These are counts reported by an aggregator of graded submissions—not the number printed, the number still in circulation, or an official print run. They also do not establish the odds of finding a particular finish in a pack.

Folio’s much higher reported raw figure for the Japanese 2002 Minimum Pack Squirtle is evidence that some older Japanese promos are exceptions to the modest prices common in the cited Western English sample. It is not a basis for assuming that a recent U.S. giveaway, or another Japanese card, has comparable demand. Confirm the exact promo number and region before drawing a comparison.
How do I check sold prices for my card?
Use completed transactions for the same card and finish, then estimate what you would actually receive after costs. A listed price shows what a seller hopes to get; it does not show that a buyer paid it.
- Read the card itself. Record its year, campaign or set number, language, and any promo code. Inspect the finish rather than relying on a listing title or photograph alone.
- Describe its condition honestly. Note visible wear and whether the card is raw or graded. Do not compare a worn raw copy with a near-mint listing or a graded slab and treat the amounts as equivalent.
- Search exact identifiers and finish. Include the number and terms such as normal or holofoil where applicable. Reject results for another year, region, Pokémon printing, language, or finish—even if the headline only differs by a detail that looks minor.
- Review multiple recent completed sales. Favor comparable transactions over the highest result. Check the sale date, card condition, and whether the listing actually identifies the same variant. A small or mismatched sample can make an estimate unreliable.
- Estimate net proceeds. Deduct applicable marketplace charges, shipping and packaging, and any grading costs from the likely sale amount. The highest observed sale is not the same as the amount you are likely to keep.
eBay says its U.S. Price Guide incorporates accepted Best Offer prices, distinguishes grades and variants, and refreshes approximately every 24 hours. Its Product Research documentation describes access to as much as three years of sales data, compared with roughly 90 days for ordinary recently completed listings. Results can still vary with condition, timing, and demand; a longer history does not make every transaction a suitable match.
Should I grade my McDonald’s Pokémon cards?
Usually, only consider grading when the likely value of the card in the expected grade could justify the full expense. A low-value raw single may not clear that basic break-even test; an unusual older card may warrant an individual assessment, but a valuable-looking card is not automatically a profitable submission.

PSA’s official grading page listed Standard service at $59.99 per card in 2026 and marked its Value service temporarily paused. That fee does not include shipping or later selling costs, and service availability can change; check PSA’s live service page before submitting. If the card’s realistic raw value is only a few dollars, the grading charge alone can exceed the likely sale value.

Grading includes authentication and an assigned condition grade, not a promise of a particular resale price. PSA describes authentication as verifying a trading card’s originality or genuineness and uses a ten-point grading scale. A PSA 10 estimate should not be substituted for the value of a raw card or treated as evidence that every copy is scarce.
How can I identify and protect a card?
Use the card’s number, campaign code, expected language, and finish together. A secondary identification guide cautions that checks should be made against a genuine example of the same printing; one visual feature alone is not an infallible authentication test. That distinction matters particularly when a normal and holo version look similar in a low-quality listing image.
For storage, keep cards handled and stored with condition in mind; trading-card sleeves and binder pages are common formats. No particular accessory or preservation result is established here. If a card may be an expensive vintage Japanese promo, take more care with identification and condition assessment than you would for an inexpensive modern single.
Are there new McDonald’s Pokémon cards in 2026?
Yes. McDonald’s USA announced on October 29, 2026, that a Pokémon Happy Meal is scheduled to start at participating U.S. restaurants on November 10, 2026. The announcement names Pikachu, Eevee, Charmander, Squirtle, and Umbreon, and says the collection has 15 collectible cards and 15 collectible toys.
As of October 30, the campaign had not started. The announcement did not provide a numbered card checklist, the distribution of holo finishes, pull odds, or completed-sale prices. Treat the 15-card figure as a collection size—not as a print run, an indication that each card is equally available, or proof that any specific card is rare. Once cards are released, identify the exact variant and wait for comparable sales before estimating resale value.

The campaign’s appeal may be partly sentimental. In McDonald’s January 21, 2025, announcement, Senior Marketing Director Guillaume Huin said, “Much like they do for McDonald’s, our fans have deep nostalgia and love for the Pokémon brand.” That supports the collecting appeal, not a prediction of financial return.
Is collecting them a good fit for you?
Collecting makes sense if you value the artwork, the Pokémon, campaign history, or the satisfaction of completing a set. A resale-first approach calls for more discipline: start with the exact card identity, check recent matched sales, and account for expenses before deciding what you would pay or whether grading is worthwhile.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a PSA population count show how many McDonald’s cards were printed?
No. A population figure counts graded submissions reported by the grading service or an aggregator, not every copy produced or still in circulation. No verified print-run figure is established for the 2026 announcement.
Do the Happy Meal toys affect a Pokémon card’s value?
The 2026 announcement counts 15 collectible toys as well as 15 collectible cards, but it does not say that a particular toy is paired with or changes the price of a particular card. Card-specific resale evidence is needed to make that claim.
Are the 2026 McDonald’s cards available at every U.S. restaurant?
The announcement describes a start at participating U.S. restaurants on November 10, 2026; it does not promise availability at every location. Check with a participating restaurant for local campaign availability.
