Backloggd lets you organize games by status, record individual playthroughs, add ratings and reviews, and build lists. Start by adding a game to your collection with the status that fits; when you play it, create a log for that run. The distinction keeps your overall collection organized without losing the details of separate playthroughs.

How to track a game in Backloggd

  1. Find the game. Search for its title in Backloggd and open the game page. If a game is missing, Backloggd says searching may cause it to appear from IGDB; if it still does not show up, contact Backloggd for help. See the official FAQ.
  2. Add it to your collection with a status. Choose the status that describes where the game belongs in your gaming life: Playing, Played, Backlog, or Wishlist.
  3. Create a playthrough log when you play. A log represents one playthrough and can hold that run’s rating, review, platform, medium, and journal.
  4. Record the outcome honestly. For a played log, choose Completed, Abandoned, Retired, or Shelved as appropriate. You can record and rate a game without finishing it.
  5. Add a rating or review if you want. A rating captures your judgment; a review gives you room to explain it. Writing a review is optional.

Backlog or Wishlist: which status should you use?

Backloggd distinguishes games you can already play from games you hope to play later. Use Backlog for a game you own or can access but have not started. Use Wishlist for a game you want to play but do not currently have available. That separation makes your backlog a practical queue rather than a list of every game you might someday buy or try.

Game status and playthrough log are different

A game-level status describes the title in your collection. A log describes one playthrough of that title. This is useful if you replay a game, return to it after a break, or play it on a different platform: the collection entry keeps the game organized, while each log can preserve details specific to its run.

For a log, Backloggd supports a platform and medium as well as a rating, review, and journal. Its journal is a calendar view of the individual days you played, so you can add day-by-day detail when that is useful rather than treating it as a requirement for every entry.

How to rate and review games

Add a rating to the relevant playthrough log to record how that run landed for you. You do not need to mark the game Completed first: Abandoned, Retired, and Shelved are also available played-log statuses. A written review is optional and can add context that a score alone cannot convey.

Backloggd displays an average rating on a game’s page. When sorting a collection by rating, however, it uses a weighted value that combines the game’s average with the overall site average. The weighting is affected by a confidence threshold based on rating count, which is intended to reduce the influence of games with few ratings. That collection-sorting value is not the same as the game page’s raw average.

Use lists and friend activity to stay organized

Custom lists can group games around a theme, track progress, or present a ranking. You can keep a list private or share it publicly. Following friends adds a feed of their gaming activity, reviews, and lists, which can help you discover what others are playing without changing how you track your own collection.

What Backloggd offers—and what to verify

Backloggd’s FAQ says browsing, account creation, and its current features are free. Optional Backer status is available by supporting the site on Patreon and grants a badge and profile showcase; it is not required to use the tracker.

App, import, export, and interface details can change. The official roadmap lists native Android and iOS apps, CSV export, and Steam import as requested features; their appearance on that list is not confirmation that they are currently available. Check the roadmap for current status before relying on any of them.

The changelog records version 1.18.0 on September 16, 2026. That release describes updated collection navigation and filters, a dedicated library-entry page with grouping and filtering, and search within a user’s collection. Because the interface can evolve, consult the current changelog if you need to match a specific screen or label.

For the service’s feature overview, see Backloggd. Definitions of statuses, logs, and ratings are in its About and FAQ.
