You can use Nintendo’s nearby-console save transfer to move saves for compatible games from Switch to Switch 2. Whether an Alphadia I & II save from the original Switch release works with the Switch 2 Edition or Upgrade Pack is not confirmed in the official sources reviewed, so treat the transfer as unverified until KEMCO confirms it.

Before transferring: check which version you’re using

KEMCO lists Alphadia I & II for Nintendo Switch with a catalog date of October 13, 2023, and for Nintendo Switch 2 with a catalog date of October 1, 2026. Nintendo’s US listing describes the newer product as “Alphadia I & II – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” and shows Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and Upgrade Pack options, with an October 1, 2026 release date. These listings identify the releases, but do not establish that a save from the original Switch version works in the Switch 2 Edition or Upgrade Pack. KEMCO’s catalog and Nintendo’s US product listing do not expressly confirm that compatibility.

So the process below can transfer a save at the console level, but successful transfer does not by itself guarantee that the Switch 2 version will recognize it. KEMCO’s game page notes save incompatibility between PS4 and PS5 versions; that statement concerns those platforms and does not answer the Switch-to-Switch 2 question. KEMCO’s game page

Transfer the save with Nintendo’s nearby-console method

Nintendo supports nearby save-data transfer between Switch and Switch 2 for compatible software. You need both consoles, an internet connection on each, and users linked to the same Nintendo Account. Nintendo says this method does not require a Nintendo Switch Online membership. Follow Nintendo’s current on-screen prompts; the exact menu labels can vary with system software.

Samsung microSD Express Card – 256GB for Nintendo Switch™ 2
  • Nintendo Switch 2 uses a new standard of expandable memory card called microSD Express (sold separately). This kind of memory card is needed for faster access speeds and to ensure games will run smoothly.
  • Please note: Nintendo Switch 2 is only compatible with microSD Express cards. If the microSD cards you have used for Nintendo Switch do not support microSD Express standards, you cannot use them with Nintendo Switch 2.
  1. Check the source console. On the original Switch, make sure the Alphadia I & II save exists under the user account you intend to use. If multiple users have played, identify the correct user before starting.
  2. Prepare both consoles. Connect the Switch and Switch 2 to the internet, keep them near each other, and confirm that the relevant users on both systems are linked to the same Nintendo Account.
  3. Start Nintendo’s nearby-console save transfer. Use the save-data transfer option on the consoles and follow the prompts to send the save from Switch to Switch 2. Nintendo’s instructions cover compatible software; consult its nearby-console transfer guide if the option or prompts differ on your systems.
  4. Check the destination version. On Switch 2, open the intended Alphadia I & II version and check whether it recognizes the save. Do not assume that a completed console transfer means the Switch 2 Edition or Upgrade Pack can load the original Switch edition’s data.

Nearby transfer and cloud saves are different options

Nintendo’s product listing presents Save Data Cloud as a Nintendo Switch Online feature, while its nearby-console method does not require membership. Cloud saves are a separate route and should only be relied on if the game and the relevant versions support the cloud save you need.

Route What you need What it establishes for Alphadia
Nearby-console transfer Both consoles online and nearby; the users linked to the same Nintendo Account. Nintendo says a Switch Online membership is not required. See Nintendo’s guide. Nintendo supports transfer for compatible software, but the reviewed official sources do not confirm compatibility between the original Switch save and the Switch 2 Edition or Upgrade Pack.
Save Data Cloud Nintendo Switch Online and cloud-save support for the relevant game and version. Nintendo lists this separately as a Switch Online feature. See Nintendo’s product listing. The listing does not confirm that an original Switch cloud save can be loaded by the Switch 2 Edition or Upgrade Pack.

What to do if the Switch 2 version does not find the save

  • Make sure you transferred the save belonging to the user linked to the same Nintendo Account on both consoles.
  • Check that you are opening the intended game version and that the save is present on the destination console.
  • Before deleting or overwriting the original save, ask KEMCO whether the original Switch save is supported by the Switch 2 Edition or Upgrade Pack. The official listings reviewed do not resolve that question.

Do not use a microSD card as a save-transfer workaround. Nintendo’s cited procedure is console-based; the official instructions here do not provide an SD-card save-move method.

Choosing an edition or Upgrade Pack

Nintendo’s US listing shows several product options, but does not establish regional availability, purchase eligibility, pricing, or cross-edition save compatibility. Check the Nintendo eShop listing for your region, then confirm save support with KEMCO before choosing an edition on the assumption that your old progress will carry over.
