To change the appearance of your gear in Assassin’s Creed Shadows while keeping its stats, build the Forge in your Hideout. Then open your inventory, choose the equipment’s on-screen Customize option, and select an appearance from an item you have found. Ubisoft says this cosmetic change costs no in-game money.
Build the Forge in your Hideout
The Forge unlocks transmog and makes appearance customization available through the inventory. Progress until you can access the Hideout, then construct its Forge. It also handles upgrades, dismantling, and engraving perks, which are separate functions from changing an item’s appearance.
Change an item’s appearance
- Open the inventory after building the Forge.
- Select the equipment you want to customize, then choose the on-screen Customize control for your platform. The official instructions do not specify a universal button or keyboard key.
- Choose an available appearance from another item you have found. The cosmetic look changes; the equipped item’s gameplay stats remain the reason to keep using it.
Ubisoft says transmog does not cost in-game money. The official guidance describes customizing gear and weapons broadly but does not provide a complete, authoritative list of every eligible equipment category.
Customize weapon parts individually
Weapon appearance customization can go beyond applying the look of a whole weapon. You can combine the visual appearance of individual parts—for example, a blade from one weapon, a guard from another, and a handle from a third.
