To trigger Undertale’s True Pacifist ending, first complete a Neutral ending without earning EXP or killing monsters. Reload that save, finish the Papyrus and Undyne friendship events, complete Undyne’s letter sequence and Alphys’s date, then explore the True Lab and continue through New Home to the ending.
What you need before the True Pacifist route
- Complete a Neutral ending. True Pacifist becomes available after you have finished the Neutral Route. You can reload the existing save afterward; a full reset is not required if the run meets the route conditions. The Undertale Wiki’s route guide explains the sequence.
- Keep EXP and LV at zero. Do not kill monsters or earn EXP. The requirement is not that you never use FIGHT: nonlethal attacks, certain ACT outcomes, and fleeing can be compatible with the route.
- Complete the required friendships. You need the Papyrus and Undyne friendship events, followed by Alphys’s letter and date sequence. The endings guide also lists these friendship requirements.
How to trigger True Pacifist, step by step
- Finish the Neutral ending. Play through the game and reach a Neutral ending while avoiding kills and EXP.
- Reload your save. Continue from the completed save rather than starting a new game, provided the run has no EXP and you have not killed monsters.
- Complete Papyrus’s friendship event. If you have not already done it, finish the Papyrus hangout/date sequence.
- Complete Undyne’s friendship event. Finish her event as well. Afterward, follow the call and obtain the letter she asks you to deliver.
- Deliver Undyne’s letter to Alphys. Complete the Alphys date that follows.
- Return to Alphys’s lab and enter the True Lab. Work through its sequence, including finding the four keys and restoring the generator.
- Continue through New Home. Proceed to the True Pacifist ending sequence, including the final Asriel fight. Games Done Quick’s True Pacifist speedrun category description identifies the date segments, True Lab, and Asriel fight as parts of the route.

If you reached an ending but did not get True Pacifist
Check the route requirements rather than restarting immediately. Confirm that you completed a Neutral ending, earned no EXP and killed no monsters, finished the Papyrus and Undyne friendship events, completed Undyne’s letter delivery and Alphys’s date, and explored the True Lab. Avoiding kills alone does not complete the additional route events.
