There is no single confirmed cause or universal fix for multiplayer lag in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 on Xbox Series X|S. First identify whether the problem is in-game stutter, missing or delayed players, slow loading, or disconnections; then test one setting or connection change at a time.

Identify what “lag” means in your flight

Different symptoms point to different parts of the experience, so note what is actually happening before changing settings.

  • Stutter or uneven motion: the simulator’s image or aircraft movement pauses or becomes choppy.
  • Other players appear late or not at all: focus on multiplayer being enabled, visibility settings, and the online connection.
  • Long loading: note whether it happens while joining a session, loading a flight, or after changing an online setting.
  • Disconnects: record when the session drops and whether the console remains online.

If practical, compare a non-multiplayer flight on the same route and in similar conditions. That can help distinguish a multiplayer-specific symptom from general stutter, though it does not establish a cause by itself.

Work through the low-risk checks first

  1. Check updates and service information. Make sure the Xbox and simulator are up to date, and consult current official service information before troubleshooting further. The available sources do not establish the current game build or live service status.
  2. Review multiplayer and visibility. Confirm multiplayer is enabled and inspect the player-visibility selection in the game. If flying with a friend, agree on the flight conditions and check whether each of you can see the other. Older community reports describe possible interactions with time and weather settings; verify the behavior in your current game rather than relying on those reports as current instructions.
  3. Compare Wi-Fi with Ethernet, if available. If your Xbox is on Wi-Fi, try a short flight with a wired connection to your router. Keep the route and conditions as similar as possible, and change only this variable. A September 2024 forum user reported that Ethernet resolved a connectivity issue, but that is an individual account—not proof that Wi-Fi is responsible for your problem or that a cable will improve frame rate. Read the community report.
  4. Keep network changes reversible. Do not assume that manually selecting a server, changing DNS, adjusting cache settings, or deleting saved data is a universal fix. In a December 2024 community discussion, one player said manual server selection made loading extremely slow and switching back to Automatic improved it. Experiences differ, so avoid stacking changes that make the result hard to interpret. See the server-selection discussion.
  5. Use Microsoft’s Xbox-specific guidance. For connectivity problems, follow the current steps in Microsoft Flight Simulator Support’s Xbox Series X|S connectivity article. Its detailed steps are not reproduced here.

What Microsoft’s documented fixes do—and do not—show

The Microsoft Flight Simulator Team’s December 10, 2024 version 1.2.7.0 release notes list Xbox performance and stability changes. They include reduced stutter when opening the panel camera and a passenger limit on Xbox Series S intended to reduce out-of-memory issues under Low settings. These are fixes documented for that specific update; they do not establish that a current multiplayer lag report has the same cause or has been fixed by it.

What community reports can tell you

Community posts are useful for generating tests, but they are individual experiences rather than controlled diagnoses. An October 2024 Xbox Series X thread describes intermittent frame drops and stutters; replies suggest Ethernet and reducing traffic or scenery options. Those suggestions are not Microsoft-verified fixes. Read the stutter discussion.

A November 2024 guide and its replies discuss multiplayer setup and player visibility, including reports involving live time and weather. Treat the guide as dated community advice and confirm settings in your current version. Read the multiplayer settings discussion. A November 2025 post also attributes Xbox stutter, blurred scenery, and crashes to the settings menu, but it is a user hypothesis, not established causation. Read that report.

When to contact support

If the problem continues after the checks, provide details that let support distinguish a repeatable issue from a one-off session. Record:

  • Xbox Series X or Series S and the simulator version shown on your console
  • Whether the symptom is stutter, missing players, slow loading, or a disconnect
  • Multiplayer and player-visibility selections
  • Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection
  • Route or airport, aircraft, and approximate time of the flight
  • Whether the same symptom occurs in a non-multiplayer flight

There is no named statistic in the cited material establishing how often Xbox multiplayer lag occurs or what causes it. These details help describe your case without assuming a diagnosis.
