<property name="EACEnabled" value="false"/>If EAC comes back after the restart, a hosting-panel setting or a -configfile= launch argument is probably overriding the file you edited. Disabling EAC also means you should treat the server as PC-only: the official cross-platform requirements call for both ServerAllowCrossplay=true and EACEnabled=true.

EACEnabled is the server-side switch for Easy Anti-Cheat. The current V3.2.0 settings reference lists its default as true and describes it as enabling or disabling EAC. Changing the value to false tells the dedicated server not to run EAC enforcement for that server instance.
This is separate from the way a PC player starts the game. A server can be configured without EAC while a client is still launched through the normal anti-cheat mode, and some non-EAC sessions require the player to choose the launcher’s no-EAC option as well. Configure both sides when necessary.

Before you edit anything
Make the change while the dedicated server is stopped. A running server or a management panel may rewrite its configuration during shutdown, startup, or an automated synchronization job. Stopping first prevents your edit from being lost and gives you a known point at which to restart and test.
- Identify who manages the process. On a self-hosted machine, this is your service, script, or terminal session. On managed hosting, it is the provider’s control panel or scheduled task.
- Find the effective configuration file. Do not assume that the file named
serverconfig.xmlin the installation directory is the one in use. The startup command can select another file. - Make a backup. Copy the current XML before changing it so you can restore the previous value or recover from a formatting mistake.
- Record the startup command or panel settings. You will need them if the value changes back after a restart.
Disable EAC in the server configuration
- Stop the dedicated server. Wait until the process has fully exited, rather than editing while it is still saving world or server data.
- Open the configuration file loaded at startup. The usual file is
serverconfig.xml. If the launch command contains-configfile=custom.xml, opencustom.xmlinstead. A hosting panel may expose this same property in a web editor rather than showing the file directly. - Locate the EAC property. Search for
EACEnabled. Preserve the existing XML structure and capitalization. - Set the value to false. Use exactly this entry:
<property name="EACEnabled" value="false"/>- Save the file. Check that the editor did not change the file extension, convert quotation marks, or leave a second conflicting
EACEnabledentry elsewhere in the effective configuration. - Restart the server. EAC is read during startup; changing the file without a restart does not change the running process.
- Test with a PC client. Have a player connect using the appropriate no-EAC launch mode if the installed build presents one. Confirm the server starts normally and that the connection behavior matches a non-EAC server.
How to confirm that you changed the effective file
The most common failed edit is a correct change made to the wrong file. The server may be loading a custom configuration selected by the launch command, a panel-generated copy, or a template that is applied at every restart.

- Inspect the command, service definition, batch file, shell script, or scheduled task that starts the server.
- Look specifically for
-configfile=followed by a filename. Edit the file named there, not a similarly named example or backup. - After stopping and restarting, reopen the same file and verify that
EACEnabledis stillfalse.
Managed hosting panel
- Open the panel’s server configuration editor and look for an EAC or Easy Anti-Cheat field.
- If the panel has both a form field and an advanced XML editor, set the value in the interface that writes the live configuration.
- Save the panel form, restart from the panel, and check whether it restored
true. A panel that regenerates XML can overwrite manual file edits. - Review any startup-argument or command-line section. A provider can enable EAC there even when the XML says
false.
Documentation for managed servers commonly shows an EAC field in a web configuration editor. The important question is not where the control appears, but whether it writes the XML or launch arguments used by the actual server process.

Why EAC can remain enabled
The server was not restarted
The running process keeps its startup settings. Stop it completely, save the file, and start it again. A browser refresh or a panel “save” action alone is not a restart.
You edited a template or unused copy
Installations often contain sample, backup, or profile-specific XML files. Follow the startup command to the file that is loaded. When -configfile=custom.xml is present, that argument takes priority over an unreferenced default file.
A launch argument overrides the XML
A Steam troubleshooting report describes a provider enabling EAC from the command line after the XML value had been changed. Inspect the complete launch command, including arguments hidden behind a panel’s advanced or startup-settings screen. Remove the conflicting EAC-enabling option or change the provider’s corresponding setting.

The hosting panel rewrites the value
Some panels regenerate serverconfig.xml from saved form values during each restart. Set EAC to disabled in the panel itself, then restart through that panel. If the value returns to true, contact the provider with the exact property name and ask which setting controls the generated command and XML.
There are duplicate properties
XML with multiple entries for the same property can produce confusing results, especially when a panel merges settings. Keep one authoritative EACEnabled entry in the effective configuration and remove or correct stale duplicates after making a backup.
The client is still launching with EAC
A server-side change does not necessarily change the player’s launch mode. The Fun Pimps community forum summarizes the split as: “Singleplayer: Start with EAC off (using the game launcher) Server: Change this in serverconfig.xml”. That guidance is older, so use the wording shown by the launcher for the installed game build. If a player receives a launch or connection error, have that player select the no-EAC option as well as joining the server with EAC disabled.

Can you use crossplay with EAC disabled?
Do not plan on console-compatible crossplay when EAC is off. The official cross-platform help requirements specify ServerAllowCrossplay=true together with EACEnabled=true. Because both conditions are required, a server configured with EACEnabled=false should be treated as a non-crossplay PC server unless the game’s official requirements change in a later build.

Changing ServerAllowCrossplay to true does not bypass the EAC requirement. If console access is essential, leave EAC enabled and use the official crossplay configuration instead.
Client launch steps for a non-EAC session
PC players may need to make a matching choice in the game’s launcher. The exact label can differ between builds, so look for an option that explicitly starts the game without EAC rather than relying on an old command-line instruction.

- Close the game completely.
- Open the game’s launcher or the platform launch dialog.
- Select the no-EAC or EAC-disabled launch option if it is offered for the installed build.
- Start the game and join the server whose effective configuration contains
EACEnabled=false. - If the server is not visible or the connection fails, verify the server’s effective XML and startup arguments before changing unrelated network settings.
Players who only want to use a non-EAC dedicated server should not assume that changing a single-player launch preference edits the server. The server setting belongs in the server’s configuration; the launcher setting belongs to each client.
Self-hosting versus managed hosting for this change
Both approaches can work. The deciding factor is whether you can control the configuration that the live process actually reads.

For a self-hosted installation, command-line visibility makes diagnosis easier. For managed hosting, the convenience of a form is useful only if the form controls the generated command and configuration rather than a disposable template.
How to re-enable EAC
To return the server to the default EAC behavior, stop it, change the same property to true, save, and restart:
<property name="EACEnabled" value="true"/>Afterward, have PC players start through the normal EAC launch mode. If you also need official crossplay, verify that ServerAllowCrossplay=true is present in the effective configuration and that the server meets the current cross-platform requirements.
Practical checklist
- Server process stopped before editing.
- Startup command checked for
-configfile=. - Only the effective configuration file changed.
EACEnabledset to the exact lowercase valuefalse.- Backup made before saving.
- Server restarted after the edit.
- Panel and launch arguments checked if the value reverted.
- PC clients told to use the current no-EAC launcher option when required.
- Console crossplay expectations reset: official crossplay requires EAC enabled.
Bottom line
The reliable method is simple but depends on editing the right layer: set EACEnabled to false in the XML file loaded by the server, restart the process, and match the client launch mode. If the setting does not persist, investigate the launch command and hosting panel before editing another copy of the file. Keep EAC enabled for the official crossplay configuration.
