To turn off Roblox Voice Chat everywhere on your account, open Settings → Privacy and content maturity → Communication and switch Use microphone to chat with voice off. To stop voice temporarily in one experience, either disconnect Voice Chat in that experience’s settings or mute your microphone with the microphone icon.
Turn off Voice Chat for your entire Roblox account
This is the correct option if you do not want the account to use Voice Chat across supported experiences.

On iPhone, iPad, or Android
- Open Roblox and tap More.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Privacy and content maturity.
- Open Communication.
- Under Voice Chat, turn off Use microphone to chat with voice.
The selector should change from green to gray. You can turn it back on from the same location. See Roblox’s Voice Chat instructions.

- Sign in to Roblox.
- Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
- Click Settings.
- Open Privacy and content maturity.
- Open Communication.
- Turn off Use microphone to chat with voice.
Some accounts may show a slightly different privacy label, such as Privacy & content restrictions, because Roblox is updating its account and parental-control menus.

Disconnect Voice Chat in one experience
If you only want to leave the current voice session without changing the account-wide setting:
- Join an experience that supports Voice Chat.
- Open the experience’s in-game settings.
- Find the Voice Chat control.
- Change it from Connected to Disconnected.
This affects the current in-game session. Roblox does not currently document a keyboard shortcut or chat command for disconnecting Voice Chat. The official steps are described in the Roblox Voice FAQ.

Mute your microphone during a game
Muting is different from disconnecting Voice Chat. It stops your microphone from transmitting but may leave you connected to the experience’s Voice Chat.

- Tap or click the microphone icon, usually in the upper-left area of the screen.
- A red slash over the icon means your microphone is muted.
- Tap or click it again to unmute.
A red dot on the microphone indicates that Roblox is recording audio, according to Roblox’s Voice FAQ.

Stop hearing one player
To mute another player’s voice, select the speaker icon over the player’s avatar or beside the player’s name in the Roblox menu. This mutes that player’s Voice Chat only; it does not mute text chat and lasts only for the current experience session.
If you block the player, Roblox prevents that user from engaging with you through Voice Chat or Experience Text Chat. Use blocking when you need to prevent contact rather than simply stop hearing someone temporarily.

Which option should you use?

If the Voice Chat switch is missing
A missing Voice Chat switch does not necessarily indicate a broken account. Roblox says Voice Chat access depends on eligibility, age checking, regional availability, and whether the experience supports the feature.
- Voice Chat requires an eligible account and an age check.
- Roblox currently accepts Facial Age Estimation or ID verification for age checking.
- Phone verification is not a valid method for gaining Voice Chat access under Roblox’s current rules.
- Voice Chat may not be available in your region.
- The experience must support Voice Chat before its in-game control appears.

Child accounts and parental controls
A linked parent account can manage a child’s communication settings through Settings → Parental Controls → [child’s account] → Settings you manage → Communication.
Roblox lists controls for Game chat, Game direct chat, Friends chat, Party, and Group Party. Its current parental-control documentation presents these primarily as text-chat and Party controls rather than as a separate general parental-control switch for Use microphone to chat with voice. Check the child account’s own Communication settings as well as the parent dashboard. Roblox’s Parental Controls Overview explains the available controls.
Roblox’s age-based account system, globally available from June 16, 2026, also sets communication defaults by age group. Users who have not completed an age check cannot chat, while age-checked children may need parental permission for communication features. Exact settings can vary by region.

Roblox has a separate setting for using voice data for product improvements. Changing it does not turn Voice Chat off.
To find it, open Settings → Privacy & content maturity → Communication → Voice data usage, then change Voice data for product improvements. Roblox states that voice interactions remain subject to recording and moderation systems even if this product-improvement setting is changed. The Voice FAQ covers the distinction.

- “Phone verification enables Voice Chat.” This is outdated. Roblox currently requires an age check, and phone verification is not a valid Voice Chat access method.
- “Muting the microphone turns Voice Chat off everywhere.” Incorrect. The microphone icon only mutes you in the current experience.
- “There is a Roblox command to disable Voice Chat.” Roblox’s current instructions do not document one. The
/wcommand is for text direct chat, not Voice Chat. - “Voice Chat is unavailable on Xbox and PlayStation.” This conflicts with Roblox’s current Voice FAQ, which lists desktop, mobile, VR, PlayStation, and Xbox support. On PlayStation, Roblox says to use Join Voice from the in-experience settings when available.
