On Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S: press the Xbox button, open Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories, select your controller, choose Configure, and switch Vibration on or off. On Windows, open the Xbox Accessories app, select the connected controller, choose Configure, and change the vibration option. If a game still does not rumble after you enable it, check that game’s own controller or rumble setting.
Where Xbox controller vibration is controlled
Xbox exposes vibration as a controller-level option on the controller’s Configure page. On a console, that page is inside the Accessories section of Settings. On Windows, it is in the Xbox Accessories app. The switch affects the controller configuration, while an individual game can still have a separate rumble or haptic setting that must be enabled for vibration to occur in that game.

The procedure applies to Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S consoles. On a Windows PC, the controller must be connected and recognized by Xbox Accessories. The app normally provides configuration controls over a wired or wireless connection, but a USB connection can expose controls that are not shown when the controller is connected by Bluetooth.

Turn vibration on or off on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S
The menu path is the same on Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. You do not change this setting from the game’s pause menu unless that particular game also offers its own rumble control.

Finding the setting on Series X|S
On a Series X or Series S, start from the Xbox button and follow Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories > Configure. The setting is not under Display, Audio, or General preferences. Selecting the controller first is important; the vibration switch appears as part of that controller’s configuration page.
Finding the setting on Xbox One
Xbox One uses the same Accessories route. If more than one controller is connected, select the one you are holding before opening Configure. Changing the setting on one controller does not require you to alter the console’s display or audio settings.
Turn vibration on or off on a Windows PC
Windows uses the Xbox Accessories app for controller customization. Microsoft describes this customization as including “assigning buttons, swapping triggers and disabling vibration.” The app is available through the Microsoft Store and is the place to change the controller-level vibration option.
- Install or launch Xbox Accessories on the Windows PC.
- Connect the Xbox controller. Use its normal wireless connection, or connect it with a USB cable.
- Wait for the controller to appear in the app, then select it.
- Select Configure.
- Change the vibration setting: enable it to restore rumble or disable it to stop rumble.
- Save the profile or leave the configuration page so the change is retained.
If the controller is connected over Bluetooth and the app shows only limited controls, disconnect it, connect it with USB, and reopen Xbox Accessories. Connection type, controller model, firmware, and the installed app version can change which configuration controls the app exposes.

How to turn vibration back on
Restoring rumble is the reverse of disabling it. On Xbox, open Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories, select the controller, open Configure, and set Vibration to on. On Windows, open Xbox Accessories, select the controller, choose Configure, and enable the vibration option.
After changing the switch, test the controller in a game that normally provides rumble. If it remains inactive, do not assume the controller setting failed: the game may have a separate rumble option, or the PC app may not have applied the profile while connected over Bluetooth.
How to stop an Xbox controller from vibrating
To disable all controller-level vibration, set Vibration to off on the Configure page. The exact path depends on the platform:
- Xbox: Xbox button > Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories > select controller > Configure > Vibration off.
- Windows: open Xbox Accessories > select controller > Configure > vibration off.
Exit the configuration screen after changing the switch so the profile is saved. This is a controller setting, so it is the right first step when the controller vibrates across multiple games or while navigating an experience that supports rumble.
Check the game’s own rumble setting
A controller-level vibration switch is not the only control. Games can include their own Rumble, Controller Vibration, or Haptic Feedback option. A game-level option may be disabled even when the Xbox or Windows controller profile is enabled, which explains why the controller works normally in one title but not another.

- Open the affected game’s settings or options menu.
- Look under Controller, Gameplay, Accessibility, or a similarly named section.
- Enable the game’s rumble or vibration option if you want feedback, or disable it if you want that title to remain silent.
- Return to gameplay and test an event that normally produces vibration.
The exact label and menu location are game-specific, so there is no single Xbox menu path for this second setting. If other games rumble correctly, investigate the affected game’s option before changing the controller profile again.

Vibration is off in every game on Xbox
- Open the controller’s Configure page and verify that Vibration is on.
- Confirm that you selected the controller you are actually using, especially when multiple controllers are connected.
- Test a game known to use rumble and check its own controller settings.
- Leave the Configure page after changing the switch so the profile change is retained.
If the setting is on and the game setting is also on but there is still no response, the available guidance does not establish a universal hardware or intensity adjustment for every controller model. The symptom may therefore be specific to the controller, its connection, the game, or the controller firmware rather than a missing global slider.
Vibration is missing only in one game
When other games provide feedback, open the affected title’s controller or accessibility settings and look for its rumble control. Some games use different terminology, such as haptics or feedback. A game can suppress vibration independently of the controller-level switch.
Windows Xbox Accessories does not show the vibration control
- Close Xbox Accessories.
- Connect the controller with a USB cable instead of Bluetooth.
- Reopen Xbox Accessories and select the controller again.
- Open Configure and check whether the vibration option is now available.
Microsoft’s Windows instructions direct Windows 11 users to download and launch Xbox Accessories for controller customization. If the app still exposes only limited controls, the controller model, connection method, firmware, or app version can be affecting the available configuration. The collected guidance does not promise that every model presents identical controls over every connection type.
Vibration works on Xbox but not on PC
First configure the controller in Xbox Accessories while connected to Windows. If Bluetooth provides only a partial configuration page, repeat the process over USB. Then check the PC game’s own rumble setting. The console and PC may use separate game settings, so a title that vibrates on Xbox can still have rumble disabled in its Windows configuration.

The controller keeps vibrating unexpectedly
Set the controller’s Vibration option to off from the Configure page. If vibration continues only inside one game, disable that game’s rumble or haptic option as well. Checking both levels identifies whether the ongoing feedback comes from the global controller profile or from a title-specific setting.
Why USB can matter on Windows
Bluetooth is sufficient for normal controller input, but Xbox Accessories may expose fewer configuration controls over that connection. A USB cable gives Windows a direct connection while you edit the profile. If the vibration option is absent or the app shows only a small set of controls, USB is the recommended diagnostic step in the available Microsoft guidance.
After the setting is changed, you can test the controller in the intended connection mode. If the vibration option disappears again when you return to Bluetooth, configure it over USB and verify whether the game receives rumble in the wireless mode you plan to use.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Vibration versus adjustable intensity
The documented control is a universal on/off vibration switch. The available Xbox and Windows guidance does not establish one vibration-intensity slider that appears on every Xbox controller model. Do not expect to find a strength percentage simply because another controller or a particular game offers one.
If your controller’s Configure page displays an additional intensity or strength control, its availability is specific to that connected model and software configuration. If no such control appears, the supported choice is the documented on/off switch, plus any separate rumble or haptic options provided by the game.

Controller models, firmware, and app differences
Xbox Accessories does not necessarily present identical controls for every controller model. The connected controller, its firmware, the way it is connected, and the version of Xbox Accessories can all affect the controls shown. This is why two Windows setups can display different Configure pages even when both are using Xbox-compatible controllers.
Use the controller that you intend to play with when changing the setting. On console, select that controller in Accessories. On Windows, verify that the app has selected the intended device before opening Configure. If a control is not present, reconnect with USB and reopen the app before treating the missing option as a hardware limitation.
A quick decision path
- You want rumble everywhere: enable Vibration in the controller’s Configure page, then enable rumble in any game that has its own switch.
- You want no rumble anywhere: disable Vibration in Configure. Disable game-level rumble too if a particular title continues to provide feedback.
- Only one game has a problem: inspect that game’s controller, gameplay, or accessibility settings.
- Windows does not show Configure controls: reconnect the controller by USB and reopen Xbox Accessories.
- You are looking for a strength slider: check the connected controller’s page, but do not assume every model supports adjustable intensity; the documented universal control is on or off.
Frequently overlooked details
The setting is not in the ordinary system-wide audio menus
On Xbox, vibration is configured under the selected controller in Devices & connections > Accessories. Searching Display, Audio, or General settings will not take you to the controller’s vibration switch.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Leaving the page matters
After changing the switch, leave the Configure screen so the profile is saved. If you close the app or navigate away before the change is applied, reopen the controller profile and verify the current state.
Rumble and haptics are not always the same label
A game may call its feedback Rumble, Vibration, or Haptic Feedback. The controller-level setting is still labeled Vibration in the Xbox Configure interface, while the game’s wording depends on its own menus.
Bottom line
Use the controller’s Configure page: on Xbox, go through Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections > Accessories; on Windows, use Xbox Accessories. Toggle Vibration, leave the page to save, and check the individual game’s rumble setting if feedback still does not match what you selected.
