Godlike.Host offers hosted Satisfactory servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
To unclaim a Satisfactory dedicated server, stop it completely, back up its settings, and delete only ServerSettings.<port>.sav from the server’s Saved/SaveGames directory. Start the server again, then claim it in Server Manager with a new server name and administrator password. This resets the administrative claim, password, certificate, and automatic world selection, but it does not delete the factory or other world saves. If the world does not load automatically after reclaiming, select the existing session in Manage Saves.
What is the correct way to unclaim a Satisfactory dedicated server?
Satisfactory stores the dedicated server’s administrative claim in a settings save rather than in the world save itself. Removing that settings file while the server is stopped makes the instance unclaimed on its next boot. You then complete the normal claim process again.

The safe sequence is:
- Stop the dedicated-server process through the hosting panel or service manager.
- Back up
ServerSettings.<port>.savand, preferably, the entire save directory. - Open the server’s
Saved/SaveGamesdirectory. - Delete only the settings file whose numeric suffix matches the active game port.
- Start the server and wait until it has finished booting.
- Open Satisfactory Server Manager and claim the server with a new name and administrator password.
- Use Manage Saves to select the existing world if the automatic load choice was cleared.
Do not delete the server folder or the world .sav files inside it. Those files contain the factory and session progress.
Why must the server be stopped before deleting the file?
The running process can keep the old claim in memory or recreate the settings file while it is shutting down. Editing the file while the service is active can therefore leave the server claimed or produce an incomplete reset.

Stop it from a hosting panel
Use the panel’s Stop control and wait for the status to change to stopped or offline. Do not rely on closing a browser tab or disconnecting from the game; the server service may continue running in the background.
Stop it as a local service
Use the service manager or the command you normally use to stop the dedicated-server process. Confirm that no Satisfactory server process remains before opening the save directory. If your panel shows separate controls for a graceful stop and a force stop, use the graceful option first and allow the shutdown to complete.
Where is ServerSettings.<port>.sav located?
The exact location depends on the operating system, installation method, and account that runs the service. Look for the Saved/SaveGames directory associated with the active dedicated-server profile.

On Linux, the leading dot in .config means the directory may be hidden by default. On Windows, an administrator account and the account running the service can have different local-app-data folders, so check the service profile rather than assuming it is the folder for your personal Windows login.
How do I identify the right settings file?
The filename ends with the game-port number, for example ServerSettings.15777.sav. If several settings files exist, match that suffix to the port configured for the currently running instance. A file left over from an old port may belong to a previous installation and may have no effect on the active server.

Delete only ServerSettings.<port>.sav, with the suffix matching the active game port. Leave the server save folder and every world-save .sav file untouched.
Make a backup first
Copy the settings file to another directory before deleting it. A copy of the entire SaveGames directory is even safer because it gives you an undo path if you select the wrong profile or need to recover a save-selection setting. A backup is recommended, not a prerequisite for the reset.

Do not confuse settings and world files
The settings file holds server administration state. The world files under the server save directory hold the playable sessions. Deleting the settings file does not wipe buildings, inventory, research, or other progress; deleting the world folder does.
What does deleting ServerSettings reset?
On the next boot, Satisfactory treats the instance as unclaimed and creates fresh administrative settings. The reset affects several items at once:
- The server name is cleared and can be set during the new claim.
- The administrator password is cleared; the previous password no longer authenticates.
- The automatic load-session selection is reset.
- The server security certificate is regenerated.
Because the certificate changes, a client or management tool may display a certificate warning the next time it connects. Accept the new certificate only for the server you intended to reset, and remove or replace any stored trust entry for the old certificate if your client keeps one.
How do I reclaim the server after the reset?
After the server has started without the settings file, open Satisfactory Server Manager and add or select the instance. Enter a new server name and administrator password in the claim flow, then complete the claim.
- Wait for the dedicated server to finish booting instead of attempting the claim during startup.
- In Server Manager, choose the unclaimed server or add it using its address and configured port.
- Enter the new administrator password and the name you want displayed for the server.
- Complete the claim and reconnect using the new certificate when prompted.
- Open Manage Saves and select the existing session and latest save if the server does not automatically load the prior world.
The new password is the one that controls administration after the reset. The old password cannot be recovered from the deleted settings file.
Will unclaiming delete my Satisfactory world?
No. Unclaiming changes administration state; it does not remove the world files stored in the server’s save directory. Your factory and session progress remain available as long as you do not delete or overwrite the world-save files.

First, verify that the server is using the same Saved/SaveGames/server directory that contained the original world. A different service account, container volume, or installation profile can point the newly started process at an empty directory.

Next, open Manage Saves and look for the existing session and its latest save. Deleting ServerSettings.<port>.sav can clear the automatic selection even when the world itself is present.
How do I reset only a forgotten administrator password?
The documented reset route is the same settings-file procedure: stop the server, back up the file, delete the correctly port-suffixed ServerSettings file, restart, and claim the server with a new password. The HTTPS API documents ClaimServer for an unclaimed server, but it does not list an UnclaimServer operation.
The API reference also states that SetAdminPassword cannot be changed to an empty string. In practice, that means an existing claim cannot be cleared by sending a blank password through that operation; removing the settings file is the documented way to return the server to an unclaimed state.

What if someone else claimed the server?
If you control the machine or hosting account, follow the same reset procedure. The old claim, administrator password, and certificate are removed when the correctly matched settings file is deleted while the process is stopped. After restart, claim the instance yourself with a new password.
If you do not have filesystem or service-control access, you cannot perform this reset through the game client alone. Ask the machine owner or hosting administrator to stop the service and carry out the file change, or obtain the access needed to manage the server’s files.
What should I check when the server still says “claimed”?
A claimed status after the reset usually means the wrong file was changed, the process was still running, or the server started with a different data directory.
- Confirm the process was stopped: stop it again, verify that it is no longer running, and only then remove the file.
- Check the port suffix: compare the number in
ServerSettings.<port>.savwith the active game port. An old-port file does not control the current instance. - Check the profile path: make sure you edited the save directory used by the service account or container volume that actually starts the server.
- Restart after deletion: the server must boot without the old settings file before Server Manager can show it as unclaimed.
If the server recreates a settings file immediately but remains claimed, stop it again and inspect whether more than one installation or service is listening on the same machine. The active service may not be the one whose files you edited.

What if the server appears to have lost the world?
Do not create a new world or delete additional files as a first response. Stop the server and inspect the SaveGames/server directory for the original session files. If they are present, restart and choose the session through Manage Saves.
If the directory is empty, check whether the server was moved to a new container volume, Windows service profile, or Linux home directory. A path change can make an intact world appear missing without any data having been erased.
What does a new certificate warning mean?
Deleting the settings file causes a new security certificate to be generated when the server recreates its settings. A warning after the reset is therefore expected for that server identity. Verify the address and port before accepting the certificate, especially if several dedicated servers are reachable from the same network.

Check that the client and dedicated server are running compatible game branches and builds. A mismatch can prevent the claim process even when the settings file was removed correctly.
Also verify that the server has finished booting, that the address and port are correct, and that any newly generated certificate has been accepted for the intended instance. If the server manager still cannot claim it, stop and restart the service once more, then confirm that the settings filename matches the active port.

The file operation is the same, but the practical difficulty depends on how much control the hosting route provides. Compare the operational features below before choosing where to run a dedicated server.

Can I undo an unclaim?
If you made a backup, restore the backed-up settings file only while the server is stopped, then start the service again. Restoring it may bring back the previous claim state, password, automatic-load selection, and certificate associated with that file.
If you did not make a backup, the old administrator password and certificate cannot be recovered through the claim API after the settings file has been removed. The world files remain separate, so the important factory data can still be loaded even when the former administrative state is gone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I unclaim a Satisfactory server from Server Manager without touching its files?
The documented API includes a claim operation for an unclaimed server but does not provide an unclaim operation. Returning a claimed instance to the unclaimed state therefore requires stopping the service and removing its port-matched settings file.
Do players need a new world invitation after the server is reclaimed?
Reclaiming changes server administration and its certificate, not the saved session. Players may need to reconnect to the server identity and accept the new certificate, but the existing world can be selected again from Manage Saves.
Why are there several ServerSettings files in my folder?
Multiple files commonly reflect different game-port configurations or older server profiles. Only the file whose numeric suffix matches the port used by the active service controls that instance; preserve the others until you know which profile they belong to.
Is deleting the settings file safe while the server is updating?
No. Wait until updates and shutdown operations have completed, then stop the process and make a backup before editing. Changing files during an update or active session can leave the service using stale in-memory data or an incomplete file.
