To unlock agents in VALORANT, earn progress during a new agent’s 28-day Recruitment Event or, once the event ends, unlock that agent through the Agent Store with Kingdom Credits, VP, or an eligible Agent Unlock Token. For agents already in the store, those same store options apply. Kingdom Credits are earned by playing; VP offers immediate access, but Riot’s cited sources do not state current prices.
Check which agents you still need
Open the in-game agent roster and check which agents are locked on your account, along with whether a Recruitment Event is active. The roster and your account’s available unlocks can change, so use the client rather than relying on an older guide’s total agent count.

Unlock a newly released agent during its Recruitment Event
When Riot releases a new agent, its Recruitment Event activates automatically. Riot says the free event lasts 28 days; play to earn event XP and work toward the agent unlock. Riot describes the required progress as roughly comparable to the former Contract Level 5, not as a guaranteed number of matches or hours. Riot’s progression FAQ explains the event rules.
If you want access immediately during the event, Riot says VP can be used to buy the agent. An Agent Unlock Token cannot be used while that agent’s Recruitment Event is active.

Unlock agents already in the Agent Store
After a Recruitment Event ends, an agent you did not unlock moves to the Agent Store. The available methods Riot lists are Kingdom Credits, VP, and eligible Agent Unlock Tokens. Check the agent’s store page in your client for the options and current price shown for your account; the cited sources do not establish current VP prices.
Earn and spend Kingdom Credits
Kingdom Credits come from gameplay and Daily Rewards, and Riot says they cannot be bought with real-world money. Riot’s progression FAQ sets a 10,000-credit cap. If you are near the cap, spend credits on eligible unlocks or other items rather than continuing to earn credits you cannot hold beyond that limit.

Use Agent Unlock Tokens carefully
Riot says new players earn Agent Unlock Tokens through their initial contract. These tokens can unlock eligible agents after a Recruitment Event, but not an agent while its event is active. Because the tokens are limited to the initial new-player progression, use them on an agent you want rather than assuming they can be applied to every future release.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minutePay VP for access
VP is Riot’s paid currency and can provide an immediate unlock, including during an active Recruitment Event. Since current prices are not stated in the cited official sources, rely on the in-client store instead of an older price list.

| Kingdom Credits | For agents available in the Agent Store after the event | Credits earned through gameplay and Daily Rewards; Riot says they cannot be purchased with real money |
| Agent Unlock Token | For eligible agents in the Agent Store after the event | An earned token from the initial new-player contract; not usable on an agent during its active Recruitment Event |

Keep agent unlocks separate from agent cosmetics
Unlocking an agent gives you access to play that character; it does not automatically grant cosmetic gear. Riot’s September 22, 2026 Patch 13.06 notes describe Agent Mastery Points, Act Levels, permanent Lifetime Levels, and Agent Reward Tracks. Matches in supported modes played on an agent grant that agent Mastery Points, and Kingdom Credits can be spent on Reward Track items. Riot also says gear earned previously is retained. These systems concern agent progression and rewards, not the initial unlock of a locked agent.
