Complete the faction-specific main-story quest that opens the Pets menu, then choose Genus Insight. That opens the feature, but not every board: to unlock a particular genus board, you must own at least one mount from that genus.
The quest names and mechanics below are reported by current independent game guides. NCsoft announced a server-wide sharing change in January 2026, but current behavior may vary by region; check your own server in-game if that affects your plans.

Unlock the Pets menu and open Genus Insight
Genus Insight is not available from the start of a character’s progression. The first gate is the Pets menu, and the menu is tied to a faction-specific main-story quest. Follow this order so you do not confuse the feature unlock with the later board unlock.

- Open Pets from the game menu. Once the menu is unlocked, select the Genus Insight tab. Seeing this tab means the feature itself is accessible; it does not automatically activate every genus board.
- Unlock a board separately. Obtain at least one mount belonging to the genus whose board you want to use. A mount is the practical key for that genus, so a character can see Genus Insight while still having some boards unavailable.
If the menu or tab is missing, first check that you completed the quest for your faction and are looking in the Pets menu rather than another collection screen. If the tab is visible but a particular board is unavailable, check whether you own a mount from that genus. These are separate gates, not one unlock.

Elyos and Asmodian quest names
The current guide references use different quest labels for the two factions:
- Elyos: All Geared Up
- Asmodian: Gathering Essentials
If a quest search does not show the expected wording, verify your faction and the exact story chapter you have reached. The cited references identify these names, but a current official global help page confirming every regional label was not located. Treat the names as the current guide-listed path and use the in-game quest tracker as the final check for your region.
Which boards are available?
Genus Insight has five separate boards. Progress and available stat lines belong to each board, so unlocking or advancing one genus does not mean the others are ready.

The board names are the categories reported in current guides. To access any one of them, own a mount of that genus. This creates an important distinction between account or character collection progress and board access: owning a pet does not necessarily mean you own a mount of the genus needed to open a board.
Tab unlock versus board unlock
Many “Genus Insight not working” reports come from treating these as the same step. The Pets menu quest unlocks the location where Genus Insight appears. The genus mount requirement unlocks an individual board inside that feature. You can therefore complete the story quest, open the tab, and still see unavailable boards until you add the corresponding mount to your collection.
When checking your progress, ask two separate questions:
- Did my faction’s story quest open the Pets menu and Genus Insight tab?
- Do I own at least one mount from the specific genus I want to develop?
Answering “yes” to the first does not answer the second.
How Pet Insight and Genus Insight differ
The similar names refer to different systems. Keeping them distinct helps explain what unlocks a board, what raises its experience, and what consumes Soul Crystals and Kina.

Current guides describe Pet Insight as having a cap of level 3. After a pet is first unlocked, the reported requirement is 25 additional souls to reach level 2, then another 75 souls to reach level 3. In other words, the cited progression uses 25 souls for the first increase and 75 more for the next one after the pet is unlocked. Pet Insight level-ups also provide genus-board EXP; they are not the same thing as a Genus Insight analysis.
This distinction matters when planning resources. Spending souls to improve an individual pet is Pet Insight progression. Spending Soul Crystals and Kina to reroll board lines is Genus Insight analysis. Collecting a new pet or mount is a collection action that can feed board EXP and, for the required mount, open a board. None of those terms should be used interchangeably.
Build board levels and open the stat lines
Each genus board has nine stat lines. Board levels 1 through 9 open those lines one at a time; level 10 does not add a tenth line, but improves roll quality, according to Corpus’s current mechanics reference.

Do not hold a reroll expecting a new tenth line to appear at level 10. The practical benefit of the final level is improved quality on the lines the board already has.
Board EXP can come from Pet Insight level-ups and Genus Insight analysis. Acquiring a new pet can also provide EXP to its genus board. Because boards progress separately, direct your pet collection and progression toward the genus you want to develop rather than assuming one board’s level applies to all five.
A sensible progression sequence
- Open the feature. Finish the appropriate faction quest and confirm that Genus Insight appears under Pets.
- Choose a priority genus. Decide which of Cogni, Fera, Natura, Varian, or Special is relevant to your current character and build.
- Secure the matching mount. You need at least one mount from that genus to make its board available.
- Feed the board’s EXP. Pet acquisition, Pet Insight level-ups, and analysis all contribute according to the cited guides.
- Use the early levels to open lines. Levels 1 through 9 reveal the nine available lines one by one.
- Reach level 10 before expensive preservation. Current guides advise avoiding ordinary line locks before this point because analysis helps level the board, locks increase the price, and roll quality improves as the board advances.
This sequence separates access from optimization. You can open the board first, advance it, and only then decide whether a particular line is worth preserving.
Analysis costs, line locks, and when to reroll
Analysis rerolls the available stat lines. Corpus reports a basic analysis cost of 4 Soul Crystals and 1,000 Kina. That is the reported no-lock starting price, not a promise that every analysis will cost the same.

The sources do not provide the full cost for every possible number of locked lines, so do not assume costs rise by a fixed amount. Check the in-game price shown before confirming each analysis. The displayed confirmation is especially important once you begin preserving multiple lines.

Those numbers show why a player should distinguish a cheap exploratory reroll from a high-commitment preservation attempt. Locking a line is not merely a visual preference; it changes the price of the next analysis.
Do not interpret the eight-lock figure as the cost of unlocking Genus Insight. The story quest and mount requirement determine access. Soul Crystals and Kina are spent later when you analyze the board’s stat lines.

Why guides advise waiting before locking
Two current independent guides advise against locking ordinary rolls while a board is still below level 10. Analysis itself helps advance the board, while locking lines makes each later analysis more expensive; better grades become available as the board levels. Locking early can therefore spend more resources to preserve a result before the board reaches the stage where roll quality improves.
This is guidance rather than a mandatory rule. A player may have a deliberate reason to preserve an unusually useful line, but the trade-off should be explicit: you pay more on later analyses and may preserve a result that could be outclassed when the board reaches a higher quality tier. If the line is merely acceptable and the board is still leveling, the current guides favor leaving it unlocked.
What to consider after level 10
Once a board is level 10, one current guide suggests considering line 4 first for offensive effects. Treat that as a build-dependent suggestion, not a universal best line. The useful result depends on the genus, your character build, and the content you play. Defensive, utility, or non-offensive priorities may lead you to value another line instead.
Before locking any level-10 result, compare four things:

There is no supported universal “best roll” independent of those factors. Use line 4 as a point to inspect first if it fits your build, not as an instruction to lock it automatically.

What server-wide sharing means
In a roadmap announcement dated January 7, 2026, NCsoft said Genus Insight and pet ownership were changing from per-character to server-wide sharing. The announcement says the highest Genus Insight value among characters on the same server is used, while pet levels are aggregated across those characters.
If your region applies that change as described, a character with a higher board value can establish the effective server value, and pet-level progress from characters on that server can be combined. This affects how you might divide collection or progression work among characters, but it does not remove the need to check which mount opens a genus board in your actual client.
The cited sources do not establish that every region currently implements this identically. If you are deciding which character should collect pets or invest resources, check the behavior on your own region and server in-game rather than assuming a character’s progress will transfer or aggregate in the same way everywhere. Regional implementation and update timing are the key uncertainties.
