To unlock Gremist’s services in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, complete the secondary quest “Practicum in Advanced Alchemy.” Find the druid at Gedyneith on Ard Skellig, finish his three favors—recover pimpernel, make spirit at an abandoned distillery, and recruit Fritjof—then return and speak to Gremist the following day. The quest reference suggests level 24, but does not list it as a hard requirement. The Official Witcher Wiki’s quest entry lists merchant access as a reward.

Where to find Gremist and start the quest

Travel to Gedyneith, the sacred oak area on Ard Skellig, and speak with Gremist. The quest is called “Practicum in Advanced Alchemy” and is associated with Gedyneith. Gremist is the simplest place to begin; references also list Otto Bamber near Oxenfurt and Yolar at Gedyneith as possible leads, rather than required steps. If an alchemist offers dialogue about a master alchemist, that can point you toward Gremist as well. See the quest listing, the Gremist entry, and Prima Games’ walkthrough.

Complete Gremist’s three favors

Gremist asks for three tasks: find pimpernel, produce spirit using an abandoned distillery, and persuade Fritjof to take part in the ritual. A walkthrough reports that you can complete these objectives in any order. IGN’s quest walkthrough outlines the objectives.

Find pimpernel

Search the woods with Witcher Senses and follow the quest clues to the plant. This part can lead to an encounter with a succubus. The Witcher Wiki describes choices involving following her to her lair and taking the plant, or siding with the druid; neither choice is identified as a requirement for unlocking Gremist. Details are in the quest entry.

Make spirit at the abandoned distillery

Locate the abandoned distillery and clear the area. Inspect the distilling instructions, find the mash, operate the equipment as directed, and take the resulting spirit. The quest objectives are listed in the Official Witcher Wiki entry.

Return to Gremist the next day

Once all three favors are done, go back to Gremist. He asks Geralt to wait; return the following day and speak with him again to complete the quest. The next-day visit is part of the quest’s completion, not an optional extra, according to IGN’s walkthrough and the quest entry.

What completing the quest unlocks

The Official Witcher Wiki lists the ability to buy from Gremist as a quest reward. A separate entry says he is also available as a Gwent opponent after the quest. The quest listing additionally gives 240 XP and five each of sulfur, alcohest, han fiber, and saltpeter; these are game-reference reward values, not real-world measurements. See the quest rewards and Gremist’s entry.
