To unlock a Quantum Drone, find and interact with the roaming Ghostly Drone in the first three Conservatory expansions. It moves between those areas until you collect it, so check all three and give it time to appear if it is missing. The interaction unlocks the Drone Station Module blueprint; you then build a Quantum Drone at the Fabricator.
Where to find the Ghostly Drone
Look through the first three Conservatory expansions for the Ghostly Drone. Monomi Park’s Ghostly Drones support article, updated September 24, 2025, explains that one drone moves among those three expansions until collected. It is not permanently stationed in the first area you search.

- Search one of the first three Conservatory expansions for the Ghostly Drone.
- If you do not see it, wait and check the other two expansions. It may have moved or may not yet be in the area.
- Interact with the drone when you find it to obtain the Drone Station Module blueprint.
Developer Watros gave the same instruction on the Slime Rancher 2 Steam Community forum: “You get the blueprint from the Ghostly Drone that wanders between the first three ranch expansions; you need to go find it.”
What if you are searching the later expansions?
The last two Conservatory expansions each have a separate Ghostly Drone that stays in its own expansion, according to the official support article. The roaming drone associated with the first three expansions is the one identified by the developer as the blueprint source.

Build the Quantum Drone after unlocking the blueprint
Unlocking the Drone Station Module is separate from crafting the Quantum Drone. Once you have the blueprint, use the Fabricator and check its current recipe display before gathering materials: the fan-maintained SlimeRancherWiki entry and the wiki.gg entry disagree about the number of Strange Diamonds required, listing three and two respectively. The blueprint unlock itself is not affected by that recipe discrepancy.
Can you buy the Drone Station Module instead?
SlimeRancherWiki also lists the Drone Station Module for purchase through Polestar Provisions, with prices of 20,000 or 100,000 Newbucks. Because this is fan-maintained information and offers can change, check the shop in your current game to confirm whether it is available and what it costs. If it is available, buying it may be an alternative to searching; otherwise, follow the roaming Ghostly Drone route.

Does a story milestone or update change the unlock?
The developer’s blueprint instruction does not specify a boss defeat or story completion as a prerequisite. Monomi Park’s Update 1.3.0 notes, published September 22, 2026, mention a fix for certain Terrarium locations where drones could not collect some resources. That note concerns resource collection, not how to unlock the Quantum Drone blueprint.
