How to unlock the Salvage Bench
- Complete Secrets in the Dark. The cited walkthrough identifies it as the prerequisite for Finding the Forge.
- Speak to Renly, the blacksmith, and take on Finding the Forge.
- Search ruined Ogham Village for Renly’s lost Smithing Tools.
- Return to Renly and hand over the tools. The Salvage Bench then becomes available in towns and hideouts.
If Finding the Forge is unavailable, check that Secrets in the Dark is complete. The walkthrough places the tools in ruined Ogham Village but does not specify a room, waypoint, or route. The quest details are reported by GamesRecon’s walkthrough; the unlock and bench availability are also listed on the Path of Exile 2 Wiki.
What the Salvage Bench does
Salvaging destroys an eligible item and returns crafting currency. Items with quality and/or rune sockets are generally salvageable, according to the wiki. Gems and jewellery cannot be salvaged. A rune socket returns an Artificer’s Shard, and anything inserted in that socket is destroyed with the item.

The wiki describes quality returns as one quality currency per 5% quality, with a chance of an additional currency for quality between those breakpoints. Treat these as mechanics reported by the wiki, not independently verified behavior. Its version history notes that version 0.1.1 made quality flasks salvageable and fixed a couch co-op issue that prevented player 2 from using the bench; those historical notes do not establish a change to the current unlock quest.
