To use an emote in Roblox, open the in-experience hamburger menu and select Emotes, or enter a slash command in chat, such as /e wave. The chat-command method requires in-experience chat to be available; the emote wheel depends on the experience’s enabled controls.
Use the Emotes menu

While playing an experience, open the hamburger menu in the upper-left corner.

Select Emotes to open the emote wheel, then choose an emote.
Roblox describes emotes as specific actions your avatar can perform. The menu is available only when that experience enables the emote wheel; the hamburger menu shows controls enabled for the current experience. Roblox’s Experience Controls help page explains this experience-level behavior.

Use an emote command in chat
On a keyboard, press / to open in-experience chat, type a command, and submit it. Roblox documents these default emote commands:
/e wave/e point/e cheer/e laugh/e dance/e dance2/e dance3
These are the default commands listed in Roblox’s Animation System (Emotes) help page. The slash-command route does not work when in-experience chat is disabled.

Choose the route that is available
- Use the menu when the experience displays an Emotes control. It lets you choose from the emote wheel without typing a command.
- Use a command when in-experience chat is available and you can enter a command with a keyboard.
These are two ways to access emotes, not separate emote products. If chat is unavailable, commands will not work; if the experience does not enable the emote wheel, its menu will not show the Emotes control.

The Emotes option is missing
Check the current experience’s controls. Roblox says the hamburger menu displays only features enabled for that experience, so an absent Emotes option may reflect the experience’s settings rather than a problem with your account. The support documentation does not establish how every individual experience configures its emotes.

The slash command does not open chat
Roblox says to open chat with / or the chat icon when chat is enabled. An experience developer can disable in-experience chat, which also makes the slash-command emote route unavailable. Chat access may also depend on age-check requirements, parental consent, and regional restrictions; these are chat-access conditions, distinct from whether an experience enables its emote wheel.
