To unlock UVH 2 in Borderlands 4, set your session to UVH 1, complete the four UVH 1 challenge targets, and then finish Lilith’s “Rush The Gate” mission. Once that mission is done, UVH 2 becomes selectable in Session Settings. The steps below cover the order to follow, where each target is found, and how to fix the most common snags.
What you need before you start
- The base Borderlands 4 game. No accessory, consumable, or extra purchase is needed to unlock UVH 2.
- Access to the Missions menu, where the Ultimate Vault Hunter challenge tab is located.
Step 1: Set the session to UVH 1
- Open Session Settings.
- Set Ultimate Vault Hunter to rank 1.
- Complete the target kills while the session is on UVH 1. A checklist guide notes that each required kill counts only when it is made on the rank that challenge specifies.
Step 2: Clear the four UVH 1 targets
A September 2026 rank guide lists the following four challenge targets as the prerequisites for UVH 2. Track them in Missions → Challenges → Ultimate Vault Hunter, and confirm that each one registers there.

If a guide’s names or wording differ from what you see in the game, trust the in-game challenge list. The checklist guide that covers rank settings and tracking was last updated October 8, 2025, so labels may have shifted after later patches.
Reaching the Bio Armored Omega Thresher
The Thresher is reached through a two-part side-mission chain in Dominion. Complete “One Gassy Issue” first, then “One Slime Issue,” which leads to the boss. Defeat the Thresher while the session is still on UVH 1.
#1 Best Overall
- YOUR VAULT HUNTER, YOUR PLAYSTYLE: Become one of four extraordinary Vault Hunters, each with unique abilities, playstyles, deep skill trees, and tons of personalization options.
- LOCK, LOAD, AND LOOT: With bazillions of guns and gadgets, every fight is an opportunity to score new gear. Firearms with self-propelling bullet shields? Check. Guns that grow legs and chase down enemies while hurling verbal insults? Yeah, got that too.
- A MAYHEM-FUELED THRILL RIDE: Discover new worlds beyond Pandora, each featuring unique environments to explore and enemies to destroy. Tear through hostile deserts, battle your way across war-torn cityscapes, navigate deadly bayous, and more!
- QUICK & SEAMLESS CO-OP ACTION: Play with a friend in online co-op, regardless of your level or mission progress. Take down enemies and challenges as a team, but reap rewards that are yours alone—no one misses out on loot.
- Includes: Borderlands 3 base game, Moxxi's Heist of the Handsome Jackpot, Guns, Love, and Tentacles: The Marriage of Wainwright & Hammerlock, Bounty of Blood, Psycho Krieg and the Fantastic Fustercluck, Designer's Cut, Director's Cut, and 30+ cosmetic items.
Step 3: Finish Rush The Gate
- After all four challenge entries show as complete, go to Lilith.
- Accept and finish the “Rush The Gate” mission.
The rank guide identifies this mission as the one that unlocks UVH 2. It is separate from the rotating weekly Wildcard. A checklist guide that specifically addresses this confusion states that the weekly Wildcard does not advance UVH rank, so finishing it will not substitute for Rush The Gate.
Step 4: Select UVH 2 in Session Settings
- Open Session Settings.
- Choose UVH 2 for Ultimate Vault Hunter.
Rank progression is tied to the character you advanced, so check the option on that same character or save. A checklist guide notes that the rank is tracked at the character level.
Rank #2

- Home Button Wake Up: Simply wake up console from sleep mode - briefly press the home button on the controller to turn on screen and repair
- Long Battery Life: Built-in 300mAh battery lasts for 10 hours of playtime and takes 2 hours to recharge; supports charge while playing with a bundled cable. Charge it fully before first use
- Breathing Light & Headphone Jack: Beautiful lights on ears keep breathing during your gaming session; an audio port allows you to wear a headset and chat with teammates (Notice: pro controller must be plugged into switch dock)
Troubleshooting
- A target still shows as incomplete: Reopen the Ultimate Vault Hunter challenge tab and check all four entries. Confirm the session was on UVH 1 when the kill happened, then repeat the target if it did not register.
- The Bio Armored Omega Thresher challenge is missing: The Thresher is reached only after “One Gassy Issue” and “One Slime Issue” are both completed. Finish that chain, then defeat the Thresher on UVH 1.
- You completed a weekly Wildcard by mistake: Accept and finish Rush The Gate from Lilith, as described in Step 3.
- The UVH 2 option does not appear: One checklist guide reports that returning to the main menu and loading back into the game helped some players see the rank option. This is a player-reported workaround, not a confirmed fix.
- Non-host players in multiplayer: Borderlands Support’s patch notes dated September 25, 2025 described an issue in which non-host players might not see an increased UVH level immediately, even though they could still switch to the higher level. The notes described this as an issue to be addressed. The notice does not confirm that it has been resolved, so check current patch notes if you are affected.
What this guide does not cover
This guide ends at UVH 2. A current guide lists requirements for later ranks, but those fall outside this unlock and may change with updates. Borderlands Support’s patch notes also record fixes to rank progression, so if a step here no longer matches the game, the in-game challenge list is the reliable reference.
