If Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel feels sluggish or keeps disconnecting on PS5, start by checking PlayStation Network status and your console’s connection, then test your home network and updates. Konami recommends broadband for PvP and warns that wireless connections can be unstable during battles, but neither Konami nor PlayStation identifies one universal cause or guarantees that any single step will fix the problem.
1. Check PlayStation Network status
When the problem happens, check PlayStation Network Service Status. If a relevant service is reporting an issue, wait for it to recover before changing settings at home. This page reports PlayStation services; it does not establish the status of Konami’s Master Duel servers.
2. Test the PS5’s internet connection
On PS5, open Settings > Network > Connection Status and select Test Internet Connection. PlayStation also points to Settings > Network > Test Internet Connection in its connection troubleshooting. Note whether the console connects and whether other online games have similar trouble. A successful test confirms basic connectivity, not that the route to Master Duel is trouble-free.
3. Try a wired Ethernet connection
If you can run a cable from your router to the console, connect the PS5 with a LAN/Ethernet cable and try another duel. Konami recommends broadband, such as optical fiber, for PvP and says wireless connections may be unstable or disconnect during battles. PlayStation likewise recommends using a wired connection where possible for network-server errors. Ethernet is a way to test whether local Wi-Fi is contributing; it cannot rule out problems with your ISP or game servers. The PS5 Quick Start Guide notes that a LAN cable is not included with the console.

4. Improve Wi-Fi placement if you cannot use Ethernet
Move the PS5 closer to the router and reduce obstructions between them where practical. PlayStation’s wireless troubleshooting advises reviewing console placement and interruptions between the console and router. This tests the local wireless path; the available guidance does not specify a particular Wi-Fi band or promise a particular speed improvement.
5. Restart the PS5, modem, and router
Restart the console and retry the connection. If trouble continues, restart the modem and router as well. For the network error flow on its NW-102650-4 support page, PlayStation instructs users to turn off the modem and router and wait at least five minutes before turning them back on. Treat this as a diagnostic step, not a confirmed Master Duel-specific cure.

- PS Remote Play requires Remote Play App connected to Wi-Fi, PS4 or PS5 console with the latest system software and compatible game. A PS4 or PS5 console with a wired connection via a LAN cable is recommended. Version 4.0 of the Remote Play App on iOS and iPadOS or version 4.1 on macOS is required for games to be playable with the controller over Bluetooth.
6. Check for game and PS5 system updates
To check Master Duel manually, highlight the game on the PS5 home screen, press the Options button, then choose Check for Update. PlayStation says games update automatically when started, but this menu allows a manual check. Also confirm that the PS5 system software is current using PlayStation’s system software update guidance.
7. Escalate carefully if the connection problem persists
If PlayStation reports a persistent network-server error, its advanced guidance includes checking router firmware and, where appropriate, router ports, a manually configured static IP, or temporary DNS changes. These settings depend on your network and can cause new connectivity problems if applied incorrectly. Follow PlayStation, router-manufacturer, or ISP instructions rather than forwarding random ports or entering unverified DNS values. If other online services work and the issue appears limited to Master Duel, contact Konami through the game’s customer service channel.

What the connection checks can—and cannot—tell you
Konami’s PvP recommendation is general Master Duel guidance, not a PS5-specific diagnosis. Its support article, “What is the recommended internet connection to play PvP?”, says: “We do not recommend using wireless communication (Wi-Fi, high-speed mobile communication, tethering of mobile devices, etc.) for PvP, as it is prone to problems such as unstable communication or disconnection during battles.” The advice supports testing a wired connection, but it does not prove that Wi-Fi causes every lag or disconnect.
PlayStation’s WS-114241-3 guidance covers connection testing and retrying, while its network-error guidance addresses console and router troubleshooting. These steps help separate a broad PS5 or home-network issue from a problem that seems specific to Master Duel; they do not establish a universal cause or guarantee a fix.
