Reforge and Sigils affect an individual item; Refining improves a gear slot and remains after you equip a replacement. To avoid wasting resources, prioritize slot upgrades that persist, then invest in item-specific improvements only when you expect to keep that piece.
Where to start with gear progression
Use the upgrade menu at Maxim for Reforge, Sigil embedding, and Refining. Before spending, identify whether the upgrade belongs to the equipped item or the slot: item-bound upgrades can be lost when you replace that piece, while Refining carries over. The systems also differ in material recovery, stat effects, and failure risk.

Reforge an item when you plan to keep it
Reforging uses Reforge Stones to improve an item’s Perfection. It also opens a third, random Advanced Attribute line that can be rerolled with Reforge Stones. The upgrade guide says you can continue spending Stones after reaching the Perfection cap if you want to pursue a preferred stat line. Reforging is item-specific, so it is most attractive on a piece you expect to use for a while.
If you replace the item, dismantling the old gear can return most of its Reforge Stones, but the recovery is partial and the guide does not promise a fixed amount. Treat that recovery as a mitigation, not a full refund. See the Prydwen Gear Upgrade Guide for its system details.

Embed a Sigil only after choosing the target item
Each gear piece accepts one Sigil. Sigil attributes become stronger at higher levels and rarities. Standard embedding costs Bound Luno and Gemcores; the guide also describes an Advanced option that can raise an inserted Sigil by up to two levels for additional Bound Luno and higher-level gemcrafted materials.
Embedding is not freely reversible: salvaging the item does not refund the Sigil or materials, and replacing an installed Sigil destroys the old one. Decide both which item deserves the investment and which Sigil you want before confirming.
Refine slots for upgrades that survive gear swaps
Refining improves a slot rather than a particular piece, so its benefit remains when you equip new gear there. The January 2026 Prydwen guide describes these stat groups:
- Helmet, Armor, Gauntlets, Boots, and both Bracelets: Stamina and Refined Armor.
- Weapon, Earrings, Necklace, Ring, and Charm: Refined ATK.
Refining costs rise by level and vary by slot. The guide names Starforge Crystals, the appropriate Mystic Metal, and Bound Luno as materials. It reports guaranteed success at low levels, with the chance declining from level 5→6 onward; its example for level 13→14 is a 65% success chance. A failed attempt consumes the resources used. Through the Blessing system, Buri Mech Shards and/or Moss Mech Shards can restore the chance to 100%; the guide says these shards can be crafted.
Those materials and odds are guide-reported details, not guaranteed constants across seasons or regions. Check the current Refining screen for the exact cost and success chance before committing resources, especially on a high-level attempt.

Gear systems and stat pools can change by season. BP Events’ community-maintained Season 3 reference, last updated 26 July 2026, calls the special affixes on Gold-quality equipment “Rare Stats.” It describes manual selection or modification options for maximum-Perfection reforge effects and Rare Stats, and says Gold-quality gear can be crafted with chosen Advanced Stats but does not receive a Rare Stat by default. It also lists Season 3 dungeon sources and stat pools.
Use that reference as orientation, not as a substitute for the current game menus: BP Events’ Gear reference. The official Blue Protocol: Star Resonance website lists patch-note posts through 30 June 2026, but the gear-specific contents of that patch are not established here. Verify any season-specific crafting, stat-selection, or dungeon-source details in game before planning around them.
Treat Breakthrough as season-specific progression
The Prydwen guide describes Gear Breakthrough through Emissary Cassie at the Artisan Guild as a Season 2 system. Its examples are Dreamer’s Stardust for raising level 140 gear to 150 and Weaver’s Stardust for raising level 160 gear to 170; it says the materials were available from the Honor Coin shop or raids. These level bands and sources are historical guide details, not a promise of current availability. Check Cassie’s interface and current season rewards before farming for them.
Keep Modules separate from basic gear upgrades
Modules are an additional endgame progression system built around set bonuses, rather than another basic step in improving an individual gear piece or slot. If you are still deciding whether to Reforge, embed a Sigil, or Refine, handle those gear systems first; approach Modules as a separate build-planning topic.
