Housing currently caps at level 12. Higher levels expand building limits and unlock large exteriors, but Blizzard has not published a complete level-by-level XP or unlock chart, so use the in-game Housing Dashboard and tooltips for exact progress.
How house upgrades work
House levels are progression earned through House XP, not upgrades bought from a furniture menu. Blizzard says that adding decor to your collection grants House XP, and neighborhood Endeavors provide another way to earn it. The current cap is level 12, according to Blizzard’s Curse of Ula’tek housing update and its Housing FAQ.
Progress increases building capacity and can unlock large exteriors. Blizzard’s published pages describe these rewards broadly but do not give a threshold for each level. Exact total XP requirements, individual item XP values, and a level-by-level unlock chart are not stated in the available official sources; check the House Dashboard and current in-game tooltips rather than relying on an unofficial numeric estimate.
Ways to earn House XP and grow your collection
Collect decor
Adding decor to your collection grants House XP. Decor can come from quests, dungeons, raids, achievements, Neighborhood Vendors, and profession crafting. The Housing Dashboard’s Decor Catalog can show an item’s source, cost, and collection requirements; its filters include type, style, culture, and expansion. See Blizzard’s Housing Early Access guide and housing update for the listed sources and features.

Complete neighborhood Endeavors
Endeavor tasks build Neighborhood Favor toward milestones, which can make decor available for Community Coupons. Tasks also award House XP, up to 2,250 per Endeavor, according to Blizzard Customer Support’s Housing FAQ (2025). That figure is a per-Endeavor maximum, not the total XP needed for a level.
Endeavor tasks do not reset. Many can be repeated, but the first completion gives the largest rewards and repeated completions have diminishing returns. In managed neighborhoods, the Guild Leader or Neighborhood Manager may choose the Endeavor; Public Neighborhood Endeavors are selected automatically.

A practical upgrade workflow
- Open the Housing Dashboard. Go to the Decor Catalog and identify pieces you have not collected, along with their listed source, cost, and requirements.
- Choose a collection route that matches the item. Complete the relevant quest, dungeon or raid, achievement, vendor purchase, or profession craft. The Catalog helps you avoid treating every decor item as if it came from the same activity.
- Check your neighborhood’s Endeavor. Review its tasks, Neighborhood Favor progress, and Community Coupon milestones. Prioritize tasks and milestone decor that fit your goals; account for diminishing returns if you repeat a task.
- Review purchase rules before buying duplicates. Blizzard Support says each additional copy of a decor item must be purchased separately. Common gold-purchased decor is non-refundable; uncommon and higher-quality decor can be refunded only while its refund timer is active.
- Track your House level in the live interface. Use the House Dashboard and current tooltips for exact XP and unlock information, since Blizzard’s published pages do not provide a complete level-by-level chart.
Who can own a house?
Access to the Midnight expansion is required to claim a home or join a neighborhood. Players without Midnight can still collect Housing items from activities and vendors, but cannot own a house or join a neighborhood. New and returning players with access are directed through a Housing tutorial. Blizzard’s Early Access guide covers the access distinction.
After purchasing a home, there is no rent, upkeep, or recurring housing subscription fee, according to Blizzard Customer Support’s Housing FAQ. An account can own one plot in the Alliance Neighborhood and one in the Horde Neighborhood.

Use Blueprints to experiment without losing a layout
Blueprints are for saving, sharing, and applying home designs; they are not a House XP shortcut. A Blueprint can capture a full home, an interior, an exterior, or a single room. When you import a shared design, the preview shows required rooms and decor, budget needs, which pieces you own, and what is missing before you apply it. Blizzard says players can save 50 layouts, plus 10 additional autosave slots. The feature supports sharing across regions except China. Details are in Blizzard’s Curse of Ula’tek update.
Room plans offer another way to shape a build: Artisanal Room plans are purchased from Neighborhood General Contractors with Community Coupons. Consult the contractor and in-game interface for the available themes and current prices.

Optional housing features are not level requirements
Pet Beds are an optional decor feature, not a prerequisite for House XP or levels. Neighborhood vendors sell them for 50 gold each. The current limits are 100 indoors and 25 outdoors; assigned indoor pets may remain stationary or roam, while outdoor pets remain stationary. These details are listed in Blizzard’s housing update.
Upcoming interface changes in patch 12.1.5
As of October 8, 2026, Blizzard’s scheduled October 13 patch 12.1.5 had not yet gone live. Its patch notes list Housing interface changes, including floor-navigation keybinds and a shortcut to the Blueprint collection, as well as Blueprint and Endeavor fixes. These are announced changes, not features to assume are already live before the patch arrives.
