To move a V Rising world to a server, stop the destination server, back up its current save, locate the correct local world folder, and upload that folder’s contents through FTP or the host’s file browser. Remove or archive the destination’s existing AutoSave_x folders, make the server’s SaveName setting match the uploaded world folder, save the configuration, and restart. The same sequence works for moving a private world to a managed or self-hosted dedicated server, but the exact remote path depends on the host.
Playing with friends? Godlike.Host runs hosted V Rising servers from 10 data-center locations, with free DDoS protection.
What you are transferring
A V Rising world is stored as a folder containing persistence data and one or more autosave folders. The server does not import a single conveniently named “save file”; it reads the contents of the world directory in its configured save location. Uploading the wrong parent folder, an incomplete transfer, or files from a different world can leave the server showing a new map instead of your established castle, servants, progression, and settings.

You can paste the path into File Explorer after replacing <username> with your Windows account name. Inside CloudSaves, open the folder named with your Steam ID. Next open the persistence-version folder, commonly v1 in the documented example, and then the folder named with the world’s GUID. The GUID-named directory is the world folder whose contents need to be uploaded. See Nitrado’s save-location guide for the illustrated layout.
Check the alternate Saves path
Stunlock Studios’ dedicated-server instructions also list %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowStunlock StudiosVRisingSaves as a client save location. Depending on how the world was created and which persistence format it uses, your files may be under Saves rather than CloudSaves. The official instructions show that the persistence directory can be v3 or another version, not only v1. Open the version folder that actually contains your world rather than creating a new one. The official path and format notes are in Stunlock Studios’ dedicated-server instructions.

Choose the world you intend to move
If several worlds are present, compare the timestamps on their AutoSave_x folders and select the world you recognize. GPORTAL’s official walkthrough directs users to choose the newest local save by its AutoSave timestamp before copying it. A recent timestamp is useful for avoiding an old snapshot, but confirm the world identity by its folder and your own play history as well.
Open the selected GUID (or world-name) folder and inspect its contents. You will upload what is inside this folder. Do not upload the entire CloudSaves, Steam-ID, or persistence-version parent directory as if it were the world itself; doing so creates an extra level of nesting that the server will not read as the configured save.

Prepare the destination server
Stop it before touching files
Use the host’s control panel to stop the server and wait until its status confirms that it is offline. Nitrado’s documented workflow begins, “Stop your server and open FileZilla or any FTP client and connect to the server using your FTP credentials.” The same precaution applies to a self-hosted instance: shut down the dedicated-server process before copying or deleting save data. A running process can write a new autosave while you are transferring files, producing a partial or conflicting world.
Back up the destination save
Before replacing anything, download or copy the destination world directory to a separate local folder. If your provider offers a backup or snapshot function, create one and retain it until you have joined the migrated world successfully. If you are working through FTP, downloading the existing world folder is the provider-independent fallback. Keep the backup outside the directory you plan to clean so it cannot be deleted with the old autosaves.
Obtain file access
Managed hosts generally expose either an FTP connection, a browser-based file manager, or both. Use the credentials and connection details shown in the host panel; do not reuse your game password unless the provider explicitly says the same account is used. For a self-hosted server, use the machine’s file system with the account that runs the server and locate the persistent-data directory configured in its startup script.
Know which remote path to open
Paths differ between providers and between default and custom server installations. These documented examples show the folder structure you should expect:

| Dedicated-server default | %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowStunlock StudiosVRisingServerSaves |
Use this only when the startup script has not assigned a different persistent-data path. |
The Nitrado paths are examples for that service, not a universal FTP directory. If your panel presents a different Saves path, use the path it specifies. Stunlock’s instructions likewise note that a server can use a configured data directory instead of the default.
Upload the world with FTP or a file browser
- Confirm the server is stopped. Check the panel or process manager again immediately before editing the save.
- Connect to the remote files. In FileZilla or another FTP client, enter the host, port, username, and password supplied by your provider. In a web file manager, open the equivalent file-browser view.
- Navigate to the configured world directory. For the Nitrado example, this is
/vrising/nitrado_data/Saves/v1/world1. On another host, follow its displayedSavespath and world folder. - Preserve the old save. Download it or move it to a clearly named backup directory outside the active world folder. Do this before deleting any autosaves.
- Remove the destination autosaves. Nitrado’s instructions say to delete all remote
AutoSave_xfolders. If you made a backup, this removes the old snapshots while leaving your backup available for rollback. Do not delete the backup copy. - Open the local world folder. This is the GUID-named folder beneath your Steam-ID and persistence-version directories, or the corresponding world folder under
Saves. - Select the contents, not an extra parent folder. Upload the files and folders inside the local world directory into the remote world directory. If you upload the parent folder itself, the server may end up with a nested path such as
world1world1...instead of the structure it expects. - Wait for every transfer to finish. Watch the FTP client’s successful-transfer queue or the browser’s upload status. A completed directory listing with missing files indicates an incomplete migration; repeat the upload after clearing the partial copy.
- Check the folder name. If you kept the provider’s existing world-folder name, no rename is needed. If you renamed the uploaded folder, record the exact spelling and capitalization because the server configuration must use it.
GPORTAL’s official video demonstrates the same essential order: select the newest local AutoSave, stop the server, connect by FTP, and paste the save contents into the server’s save location. The video is available at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBymHLsYCOc.
Make SaveName match the uploaded world
V Rising uses the SaveName value in ServerHostSettings.json to select the world directory. If the uploaded folder has a different name from the value already configured, edit the setting before starting the server. For example, if the remote folder is named mycastle, the configuration must contain the corresponding SaveName value for mycastle. Use the host’s configuration editor or open the JSON file through FTP/file access, change only the required value, save the file, and verify that the JSON remains valid.
Nitrado specifically calls out updating ServerHostSettings.json when a world folder was renamed. If you preserve the destination’s configured world name and place the uploaded contents inside that directory, this naming mismatch is less likely. The save-location details and configuration relationship are described in Nitrado’s guide.

Restart and verify the migration
- Save the configuration. Confirm the panel reports that the file change was written before starting the server.
- Start the server. Allow the process to finish loading rather than joining during the initial restart.
- Join using the same server entry. Check that the expected world appears and that you can load into it.
- Verify representative data. Look for your castle location, containers, character progression, unlocked recipes, servants, and recent building changes. Checking several categories catches a wrong-world upload that might otherwise look successful.
- Keep the backup until verification is complete. Do not delete the original destination backup or your local source copy immediately after the first successful login.
If the server loads a fresh world, stop it before making another change. Continuing to play can create new autosaves that overwrite the evidence you need for diagnosis.
Self-hosted server considerations
On a self-hosted installation, the default server save area is %USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowStunlock StudiosVRisingServerSaves, but the official instructions allow the startup script to set another persistent-data path. Locate the path passed by your launch script and use its Saves directory instead of assuming the default. The same content-level rule applies: copy the local world’s contents into the server’s active world folder, then set SaveName to that folder’s name.
File permissions can also differ on a self-hosted machine. The account running the server must be able to read the uploaded files and write future autosaves. If the process starts but cannot save progress, inspect the directory ownership and permissions, restore the backup, and correct access before attempting another migration.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Persistence-version changes and compatibility
Do not assume that every local save works with every server build. Stunlock Studios states that the persistence-version number “changes whenever there are breaking changes to the persistence/save format.” A world may therefore appear under v1, v3, or another version depending on the game and server software that created it. The folder number alone is not a guarantee of compatibility across updates.
Best Value
- Compatible with Wide Screens - To ensure compatibility with the dual monitor mount, your each monitor must meet three conditions at the same time: First, computer screens size range: 13 to 32 inches. Second, screen weight range: 4.4 to 19.8 lbs. Third, the back of the monitor screen must have VESA mounting holes with a pitch of 75x75mm or 100x100mm.
- Regarding the compatibility with desks - Your desk must meet three conditions at the same time: First, desk material: Only wooden desks are recommended, plastic or glass desks cannot be used. Second, desk thickness range: 0.59" - 3.54". Third, the bottom of the desk should not have any cross beams or panels, as this will interfere with installation. We recommend carefully checking that your desk and monitors meets all above conditions before purchasing.
- Dual C-Clamp Hold - Worried your dual monitors might wobble or slip? Our upgraded base uses a larger platform plus a dual C-clamp structure to lock the dual monitor arm firmly to your desk. Each arm safely keeps your screens steady while you type, click and game—no shaking, no sliding, just a clean and secure setup you can trust every day. It also provides Grommet Mounting installation choice, both options ensure stable and secure fixation for your 0.59" - 3.54" desk.
- Full-Motion Adjustment For Comfortable View - Pull the screen closer when you’re deep in a spreadsheet, push it back to watch videos, or rotate to portrait for coding — moving everything smoothly with just one hand. The monitor stand offers +85°/-50° tilt, ±90° swivel and 360° rotation. Raise your monitor up to 15.75″ to support a healthy sitting posture. Whether you’re working from home, gaming through the night, or switching between video calls and documents, getting the screens to your natural line of sight helps relieve neck, shoulder and back strain so you can stay focused longer with less fatigue.
- Keep Your Desk Organized: By lifting both screens off the desktop, this dual monitor stand opens up valuable space for your keyboard, notebook, docking station or a simple, clutter-free work area. Built-in cable management guides wires along the arms, keeping cords out of sight and out of the way. Enjoy a tidy, modern workstation that looks as good as it feels to use.
Keep the source and destination on compatible game/server versions when possible, and test the transferred world before inviting players back. If an update has changed the persistence format, retain the original backup and consult the current official server instructions before converting or replacing files. The available documentation does not guarantee compatibility across every future version or host implementation.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteTroubleshooting common failures
The server starts a new world
- Check that you uploaded the contents of the actual GUID/world folder rather than the higher-level Steam-ID or persistence folder.
- Confirm that the remote folder contains the uploaded autosaves and that the transfer queue completed without errors.
- Verify that
SaveNameexactly matches the remote world-folder name, including capitalization. - Stop the server before correcting the path or replacing the files again.
Your world is missing recent progress
- Return to the local source and compare AutoSave timestamps; an older world folder or snapshot may have been selected.
- Check that all local contents were uploaded, not only one autosave directory.
- Repeat the transfer after deleting the incomplete remote copy, using the backup to restore the destination if necessary.
The upload appears complete but the server will not load the save
- Check for a persistence-version difference between the client world and server build. Version folders can change after breaking save-format updates.
- Ensure the server was fully stopped during deletion and upload.
- Restore the destination backup to confirm the server itself still starts, then retry with the correct compatible source.
You cannot find the local world
- Search both
CloudSavesandSavesunder%USERPROFILE%AppDataLocalLowStunlock StudiosVRising. - Open the Steam-ID folder and each persistence-version folder rather than searching only for a human-readable world name; worlds may use GUID directory names.
- Use modified dates and AutoSave timestamps to distinguish active worlds from abandoned copies.
The server overwrote the uploaded files
- Stop it immediately to prevent additional autosaves.
- Restore the uploaded world from your local source or backup, then confirm that the server remains offline until the replacement and configuration update are complete.
Choosing a hosting workflow for future transfers
If you expect to move worlds more than once, evaluate the host’s file-management workflow before renting a server. The technical documentation supports these practical comparison questions:
- Access method: Does the provider offer a reliable browser file manager, FTP credentials, or both?
- Backups and rollback: Can you create, download, and restore a save backup before replacing autosaves?
- Path documentation: Is the V Rising
Saveslocation clearly identified for the current server version? - Configuration control: Can you edit or inspect
ServerHostSettings.jsonand changeSaveNamewhen needed? - Support and location: Does the service provide help in your region and explain how it handles game updates?
- Cost: Check the provider’s current regional price and renewal terms directly; the documented transfer guides do not establish current pricing.
These checks matter because a provider can support V Rising while exposing a different directory layout or limiting access to configuration files. Choose the workflow that lets you back up, replace, and roll back a world without relying on undocumented paths.
