You cannot upload an Xbox Game Pass save directly to an Abiotic Factor dedicated server. Game Pass uses Microsoft/Xbox container files, while a dedicated server expects the Steam-style world files. The reliable process is: let Xbox cloud sync finish, back up the complete wgs folder, convert the save, place the converted world in the server’s save directory (or use a host panel that performs the conversion), then verify the world and every player before deleting your backup.
Why a direct upload fails
Abiotic Factor saves created through Xbox Game Pass or the Microsoft Store are stored as Xbox container data. A dedicated server does not read that container as if it were a normal Steam world folder. It expects the loose files and Steam header information used by the Steam and dedicated-server versions.

That format boundary is why generic “upload your Steam save” tutorials do not work for Game Pass saves. Guides from Game Host Bros and GhostCap describe a Steam-folder procedure; they explicitly do not provide a Game Pass conversion path. Treat not directly and convert first as the dependable rule.
CrystalFerrai’s AbioticSavePlatformConverter describes itself as a command-line program that converts an Abiotic Factor save from the Xbox/Microsoft Store version to the Steam/dedicated-server version. The utility parses the Xbox containers and creates server-compatible files; the Xbox data does not contain the Steam header information on its own.

Before you touch the save: make a rollback copy
Cloud synchronization can overwrite a local edit, make a world disappear from the game’s list, or leave the save unable to load. Do this preparation before converting anything:
- Close Abiotic Factor.
- Exit the Xbox app, rather than leaving it running in the background.
- Wait for Xbox cloud synchronization to finish. Do not begin while the app is still uploading or downloading the save.
- Locate the complete
wgsfolder and copy it, including every subfolder and file, to a separate location. - Give the backup a clear name such as
AbioticFactor-wgs-before-conversion. A USB flash drive or another physically separate drive is useful if the original disk is damaged or the cloud client resynchronizes unexpectedly.
Do not edit the only copy. Leave the untouched backup alone until you have joined the server, loaded the intended world, checked the base and progression, and confirmed that each player’s data is present.

Find the Xbox Game Pass save folder
The exact package directory varies by installation and account. The usual location is:
%LOCALAPPDATA%Packages<AbioticFactor package>SystemAppDatawgs<account id>_<id>
On some installations, Abiotic Editor also lists this location:
<drive>:XboxGamesGameSavewgs<account id>_<id>
One package name used in hosting documentation is PlayStack.AbioticFactor_3wcqaesafpzfy, so that installation would begin under:

Your account directory will not necessarily have the same name as another player’s. Look for the directory containing the wgs data rather than guessing an account ID. If more than one Abiotic Factor package or account directory exists, the newest one is not automatically the correct one; compare modification times and, if necessary, make a temporary copy before conversion.
Choose how you will convert and host the world
There are two practical routes. A managed host can automate conversion in its control panel, while a self-hosted server gives you direct control over the converted files and world name.

The managed route is convenient if you already rent a server and do not want to install .NET or handle the output directory. The command-line route is preferable when you control the machine, need repeatable conversions, or want to inspect and archive each generated world.
Route 1: import through a managed server panel
Provider automation is not universal, so use the exact labels shown by your host. BisectHosting published a Game Pass save-upload workflow on March 2, 2026; its sequence illustrates how a panel-based import works.

- Prepare the archive. Zip the backed-up
wgsdata. Preserve the folder structure inside the archive; do not drag individual container files into an unrelated Steam save folder. - Upload the zip to
GamePassSaves. This is the provider’s designated staging directory in the documented workflow. - Unarchive the upload. Use the panel’s extraction action so the provider can see the original Game Pass container structure.
- Set the startup World Name. Enter the world name generated or displayed by the panel, following its capitalization and spelling exactly.
- Start the server. The panel performs the Game Pass-to-server conversion as part of startup according to that provider’s implementation.
- Join and test. Confirm that the intended world appears, load it, and check the base, progression, and each player’s inventory or character data.
If your host uses different folder names or asks for a converted folder instead of a raw zip, follow that panel’s instructions rather than copying the BisectHosting labels verbatim. “Managed import” describes the approach, not a common standard that every provider implements identically.
Route 2: convert with AbioticSavePlatformConverter
Install the required runtime
CrystalFerrai lists the .NET Runtime 8.0 x64 as a prerequisite. Install the x64 runtime, not an x86-only runtime. If the tool immediately closes or reports that a framework is missing, check the installed architecture and version before changing the save files.

Discover the profile
Open a terminal in the converter’s directory and use its profile-discovery option:
AbioticSavePlatformConverter --find
The command is intended to locate the available Game Pass profile. Record the profile ID it returns. If it finds no profile, first confirm that you copied the complete wgs directory, that Xbox and the game are closed, and that the save is in one of the locations listed above.

Convert the selected profile
Run the converter with the discovered profile ID and a new output directory:
AbioticSavePlatformConverter --profile <id> --out <folder>
Replace <id> with the value reported by --find and choose an empty output folder. Using a new folder prevents the converter from overwriting your backup or mixing an earlier conversion with the current one. Keep the command output; an error about a malformed container, missing header, or unsupported save is useful when determining whether the problem is the source data or converter compatibility.
Place the result for a self-hosted server
The converter documentation identifies the self-hosted server world destination as:

Copy the converted world into the server installation’s corresponding SavedSaveGamesServerWorlds directory. Do not copy the original Xbox container files into that directory and expect the server to convert them automatically. If the server launcher or configuration asks for a world name, select the converted world’s name exactly as it appears in the output.

Keep the converted output separate from the original backup. If you need to repeat the process after a game update, start again from the untouched Game Pass copy instead of converting a folder that the server has already modified.
Verify the migration after the first startup
A server that starts without an error is not proof that the migration is complete. Use this checklist while the original backup is still available:
- The expected world name appears in the server’s world list or startup configuration.
- The world loads without an infinite loading screen, crash, or immediate return to the menu.
- Your base is present, including major construction and storage.
- Story, research, technology, and other progression flags match the Game Pass world.
- Every player who was previously in the world can find the correct character and equipment.
- Join and reconnect at least once with the server running continuously, so you test both initial loading and persistence.
- The server creates new save data in its normal server directory after you make a small, harmless change.
Only after these checks should you consider the migration usable. Retain the untouched wgs backup in case a later game update, converter update, or panel conversion changes the result.
Troubleshooting common failure points
The server starts, but the world is missing
Check the world-name setting first. A panel may have extracted the archive successfully but still be configured to start a different world. On a self-hosted machine, verify that the converted folder is under SavedSaveGamesServerWorlds, not one directory higher or inside a second nested folder created by the zip.
If the world was visible before conversion but disappears after editing, restore the untouched backup and retry with Xbox cloud synchronization disabled or fully completed. Abiotic Editor warns that offline editing of Game Pass saves is highly experimental; a cloud client can also replace the local copy after you think the conversion succeeded.
The converter cannot find a profile
Make sure the game and Xbox app are closed, then point the tool at a copy of the complete wgs tree. Confirm that you are looking under the correct Windows user profile and that the data was not left inside a zip file. Multiple account directories can exist; use the one that contains the world you tested most recently.

The converter reports an error or produces an unloadable world
Confirm that .NET Runtime 8.0 x64 is installed and that you are using a converter build compatible with your current Abiotic Factor version. Compatibility can change with game updates, save-header changes, and converter releases. Do not “repair” the only copy by deleting files from the container. Restore the backup, record the exact error, and test a fresh output directory.
Player data is missing even though the base loaded
Stop the server and return to the untouched source. A partial upload, an incorrectly nested archive, or selecting the wrong account profile can produce a world that loads without all character records. Recreate the archive from the entire wgs folder, repeat the conversion, and verify each player before allowing normal play.
A generic Steam tutorial tells you to upload a world folder
That instruction is valid only when the source is already in Steam/dedicated-server format. It does not replace the Xbox-container conversion step. Use a provider’s documented Game Pass importer or convert the profile with a compatible utility first.
What can change compatibility?
No conversion workflow can guarantee permanent compatibility across every release. The main variables are the Abiotic Factor game update, the internal save headers, the converter version, and the managed host’s own importer. A migration that works on one version may require a newer converter after a major update, while a host panel may update its automation on a different schedule.
For that reason, archive three things with each successful migration: the original Game Pass wgs backup, the converted server-world folder, and the converter or panel version used. That record lets you roll back or reproduce the process without altering the source save.

Recommended sequence at a glance
- Close Abiotic Factor and the Xbox app.
- Wait for cloud synchronization to finish.
- Copy the entire
wgsfolder to a separate, dated backup. - Choose a managed-panel import or command-line conversion.
- For self-hosting, install .NET Runtime 8.0 x64, run
--find, then run--profile <id> --out <folder>. - For a managed host, stop the server, upload the zipped data to the provider’s Game Pass staging folder, unarchive it, set World Name, and start the server.
- Load the world and check the base, progression, and every player.
- Keep the original backup until the server has been tested through a reconnect and a save.
