Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →In Minecraft Bedrock Edition, importing a world into a Realm means uploading it to a Realm slot. Open the Realm in Realms Hub, choose a slot and select Edit World. Use Upload World for an empty slot or Replace World to overwrite the world already in that slot. Download any existing world you want to keep before replacing it.
Before you start
- These menu steps are for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition; the available official instructions do not establish the exact Java Edition menu flow.
- You need an active Realms trial or paid subscription. Minecraft recommends updating both the device hosting the local world and the device you will use to access the Realm. Minecraft’s Bedrock world-transfer instructions cover these prerequisites.
Upload from the Realm Hub
- In Minecraft, select Play, then open Realms and the relevant Realm’s Realms Hub.
- Select the destination world slot, then choose Edit World.
- For an empty slot, select Upload World, choose your local world and confirm.
- For a slot that already has a world, select Replace World, choose the local world and confirm. This replaces the world in that slot.
The labels and slot-based workflow are described in Minecraft’s Bedrock transfer guide and its Realm world-change instructions.
Start from the local world instead
You can also send the local Bedrock world to a Realm from its own settings: choose Play, edit the local world, select Play on Realm, then choose the destination Realm. If that Realm already has a world, this route replaces it and its saved progress. See Minecraft’s Bedrock Realm setup instructions.
Protect a world before replacing it
Replacing a Realm world can mean losing progress. If you may need the current world later, download a copy before you replace it. Minecraft also warns that Realm backups are not retained indefinitely, so do not rely on them as a permanent archive; see its guidance on changing a Realm world.

- Explore randomly generated worlds and build amazing things from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles
- Play in creative mode with unlimited resources or mine deep into the world in survival mode, crafting weapons and armor to fend off the dangerous mobs

What about Java Edition?
The detailed upload steps above are specifically documented for Bedrock Edition. Minecraft’s general Realm world-change instructions describe replacing a world in a slot, but the available guidance does not confirm an equivalent, complete Java-specific upload path. Check the current in-game Java Realm controls rather than assuming Bedrock’s menu labels apply.
