You can use an Xbox Cloud Gaming playtime pass on a phone, PC, or supported TV by signing in with the Microsoft account that has access, choosing a cloud-playable game, and starting it through the right browser or Xbox app. Most games also need a compatible controller and a stable internet connection. As of October 2026, playtime packs are an Xbox Insider preview, so availability and prices may differ by market and account.
What does an Xbox Cloud Gaming playtime pass do?
A playtime pass supplies time for cloud streaming; it does not bypass the requirements for a particular game, account, device, or region. You still need to sign in with the Microsoft account that has the playtime access, and the game must be available for cloud play for your account and location.

In an October 21, 2026 Xbox Insider preview, Microsoft listed three packs: 10 hours for $3.99, 25 hours for $7.99, and 50 hours for $11.99. Microsoft described the packs as offering ad-free cloud gaming, shorter waits, high-quality streaming, and playtime that remains available until used. These are preview prices, not a guarantee of what every player will see. Microsoft says broader rollout is planned for November 2026, with price, features, eligible games, and availability varying by market and account eligibility.
The pass is for cloud streaming, not a separate copy of a game. It does not make an unsupported TV compatible, add a game to the cloud catalog, or change account and regional eligibility. Check the game and device options shown for your account before buying a pack or troubleshooting a launch problem.

Do I need Game Pass or an Xbox console?
Xbox Insiders can test playtime packs without a Game Pass subscription, according to the October 2026 preview. You do not need to own an Xbox console to use a supported phone, computer, TV, or streaming device for cloud play.
Game Pass cloud allowances are also scheduled to change in November 2026. Microsoft lists monthly cloud hours of 5 for Essential, 10 for Premium, and 15 for Ultimate; after an included allowance is used, Microsoft plans to sell additional cloud playtime through the Xbox Store. Those allowances are distinct from the separately announced playtime packs, and the change should not be assumed to have taken effect before November.
Whether a pack appears for you depends on the preview or rollout, your market, and your account eligibility. If you are not an Insider or cannot see a pack, do not assume the preview offer is available for purchase on your account. Check the Xbox Store and current account-specific options rather than relying on the listed preview prices.
What should I check before starting?
Make sure the account, game, input device, and network are ready before opening a stream. These checks prevent the most common cases where a pass is available but a game will not start or feels difficult to play.
- Account: Sign in with the Microsoft account that owns the playtime access.
- Game: Confirm that the title supports cloud play and is available for your region and account.
- Device: Use a supported phone, computer, smart TV, or streaming device. Support can vary by exact model and market.
- Controller: Have a compatible controller ready. Most games require one; only selected titles support touch controls. Xbox lists Xbox, 8BitDo, GameSir, Backbone, and Sony DualSense controllers among supported makers. An Xbox Wireless Controller is one option across phone, PC, and TV setups.
- Connection: Xbox lists 10 Mbps as a minimum, says some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality, and recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Ethernet is preferable where practical.
Those network figures are thresholds and recommendations, not a promise that a stream will be smooth on every connection. Stability matters as well as the advertised speed: a connection that fluctuates, shares bandwidth heavily, or has weak Wi-Fi coverage can still produce interruptions or lower quality.

How do I use a playtime pass on an Android phone?
On Android 12 or later, open a supported browser and go to xbox.com/play. Sign in with the account that has the playtime access, select a cloud-playable game, and connect a compatible controller unless the title supports touch controls.

- Check that the phone runs Android 12 or later and that your browser is supported and up to date.
- Connect a Bluetooth controller, or connect one by USB if your phone and controller support that setup. Pair it before launching the game so the browser session can recognize it.
- Open the browser and enter xbox.com/play.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account associated with the playtime access.
- Choose a game marked as cloud playable and available to your account and region.
- Start the stream and confirm that the controller or supported touch controls respond.
A phone can be convenient for short sessions, but its small screen makes controller placement and stable Wi-Fi especially important. If the game offers touch controls, those controls are available only for selected titles; do not assume every game can be played without a controller.
How do I use a playtime pass on an iPhone or iPad?
On an iPhone or iPad running iOS or iPadOS 14.4 or later, use Safari or another supported browser and visit xbox.com/play. Sign in, select a cloud-playable game, and pair a controller unless that particular game supports touch input.
- Update the device and browser, and confirm that the operating system meets the iOS or iPadOS 14.4 minimum.
- Pair a compatible controller over Bluetooth, or prepare a supported wired connection.
- Open Safari or another supported browser and go to xbox.com/play.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that has playtime access.
- Select an eligible cloud-playable title and launch it.
- If desired, use the browser’s Add to Home Screen command for quicker access to the site later.
Adding the site to the Home Screen is a shortcut, not a separate app or a way to change eligibility. The same sign-in, game availability, controller, and connection requirements still apply.
How do I play on a Windows PC, Mac, or Chromebook?
Windows PCs running Windows 10 version 20H2 or later can use the Xbox app or a supported browser such as Microsoft Edge or Chrome. On macOS and ChromeOS, Xbox documents browser play through xbox.com/play; use an up-to-date supported browser.

- Confirm the PC runs Windows 10 version 20H2 or later.
- Connect a compatible controller by Bluetooth or USB if the game requires one.
- Open the Xbox app or a supported browser such as Microsoft Edge or Chrome.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account that has the playtime access.
- Open the cloud game catalog, select a cloud-enabled title available to your account and region, and start streaming.
Mac or Chromebook
- Update your browser to a supported version and connect a compatible controller if needed.
- Go to xbox.com/play in the browser.
- Sign in with the account that has the playtime access.
- Choose an eligible cloud-playable game and launch it.
A PC gives you a larger display than a phone and can use wired Ethernet where available. Browser and app access depend on the device and platform: the Xbox app route described here is for Windows, while Xbox documents browser play for macOS and ChromeOS.
How do I use a playtime pass on a TV?
For TV streaming, open or install the Xbox app on a supported smart TV or streaming device, sign in, select a cloud-playable game, and pair a compatible controller. Xbox lists select LG, Samsung, and VIDAA TVs, as well as Amazon Fire TV, among supported options; the exact model, region, game, and account support can vary.
- Before buying or setting up a device, check Xbox’s current supported-device list for the exact TV or streaming-device model and your market.
- Install or open the Xbox app on the supported device.
- Pair a compatible controller using the TV or streaming device’s available Bluetooth or USB options.
- Open the app and sign in with the Microsoft account that has the playtime access.
- Choose a cloud-playable game available to the account and region, then start streaming.
An Xbox console is another route: supported cloud games can be streamed from the console interface. A TV’s inclusion in a supported brand family is not enough to establish support for every model, so verify the precise device before purchasing hardware for cloud gaming.
Which device is best for using a playtime pass?
All three device types use the same account and game-eligibility checks, but the access method and play setup differ. Choose based on the screen you want, the controller and network you can use, and whether your exact device is supported.

| Android phone | Supported browser at xbox.com/play | Small, portable screen; controller by Bluetooth or USB, or touch controls in selected games | Android 12 or later; supported browser; game and account availability |
| iPhone or iPad | Safari or another supported browser at xbox.com/play | Portable screen; Bluetooth or supported wired controller; optional Home Screen shortcut | iOS/iPadOS 14.4 or later; supported browser; game and account availability |
| Windows PC | Xbox app or supported browser, including Edge or Chrome | Computer display; controller by Bluetooth or USB; Ethernet may be practical | Windows 10 version 20H2 or later; cloud-enabled game and account access |
| Mac or Chromebook | Supported browser at xbox.com/play | Computer display; controller by Bluetooth or USB | Supported, up-to-date browser; cloud-enabled game and account access |
| Supported TV or streaming device | Xbox app | Large screen; pair a compatible controller with the device | Exact model, market, game, and account support; current Xbox device list |
| Xbox console | Console interface | TV display with a controller already connected to the console | Supported cloud game and account eligibility |
Use the phone when portability matters, a computer when you prefer a browser or app on a desk setup, and a supported TV or streaming device when you want a living-room screen. These are practical differences, not guarantees of better stream quality: the connection and device support still matter.

What internet speed and controller do I need?
Xbox lists 10 Mbps as the minimum internet speed, notes that some devices may need 20 Mbps for best quality, and recommends 5 GHz Wi-Fi. If possible, use Ethernet for a more direct connection; otherwise, place the device near the router and avoid a weak or congested wireless signal.
Most games require a compatible controller. Xbox lists controller makers including Xbox, 8BitDo, GameSir, Backbone, and Sony DualSense. Compatibility with a maker does not mean every model or connection method will work identically on every phone, PC, or TV, so pair the controller with the device before launching and verify that the game recognizes its inputs. Selected games offer touch controls, but that is a title-specific option rather than a general replacement for a controller.
If play feels delayed or the image degrades, first check whether the device is on a weak Wi-Fi band or far from the router, whether other activity is using the connection, and whether the connection remains stable during a session. Meeting a speed figure alone does not rule out local wireless interference or fluctuations.
Why can’t I start a cloud game with my pass?
A pass only covers cloud playtime; it cannot resolve a mismatch in account, game, region, device, or input support. Check the relevant item below before changing settings or buying another pack.
- The pack or playtime is not visible: Confirm you are signed into the account that has access. The playtime-pack prices in the October 2026 announcement were part of an Insider preview, with availability dependent on market and account eligibility.
- The game is missing or will not launch: Check that the title is cloud playable and available for your region and account. A pass does not make every game streamable.
- The TV app is unavailable: Confirm the exact model and market on Xbox’s current supported-device list. Support for select models from a manufacturer does not establish compatibility with every TV from that brand.
- The game does not respond to touch: Use a compatible controller unless the selected title specifically supports touch controls.
- The controller is not detected: Pair it with the phone, PC, TV, or streaming device before starting the stream; check the device’s Bluetooth or USB support and confirm the controller is compatible.
- The stream stutters or looks poor: Check connection stability, move closer to the Wi-Fi router, use 5 GHz Wi-Fi where available, or try Ethernet on a device that supports it. Xbox’s 10 Mbps minimum and 20 Mbps best-quality guidance do not guarantee smooth play under every network condition.
- A monthly allowance differs from the pack offer: The announced November 2026 Game Pass cloud-hour changes are separate from the October Insider pack preview. Check the current Xbox Store and account details for what applies to you.
How are Game Pass cloud hours changing in November 2026?
Microsoft says the monthly cloud-play allowances will be Essential: 5 hours, Premium: 10 hours, and Ultimate: 15 hours beginning in November 2026. After the included hours are consumed, Microsoft plans to sell additional cloud playtime through the Xbox Store.

| Game Pass plan | Announced cloud playtime beginning November 2026 |
|---|---|
| Essential | 5 hours per month |
| Premium | 10 hours per month |
| Ultimate | 15 hours per month |
These are announced monthly allowances, not the size of a playtime pack. The change is dated for November 2026; before then, check the account and store for the allowance currently in effect in your market. Microsoft’s announcement says additional cloud time will be sold through the Xbox Store after included hours are used, but that does not establish that every pack or price is available in every region.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I share an Xbox Cloud Gaming playtime pass with someone in my family?
The October 2026 announcement does not specify family sharing or whether playtime can be transferred between Microsoft accounts. Treat access as tied to the account that displays the pass unless Xbox’s current terms for your market say otherwise.
Does a playtime pass pause when I close a game or lose connection?
The announcement says the purchased playtime remains available until it is used, but it does not explain how session time is counted during a disconnect, pause, or app exit. Check the Xbox Store or account details for the terms attached to the offer you receive.
Can I get a refund for an unused cloud playtime pack?
The October 2026 preview information does not state a refund policy. Refund eligibility may depend on the purchase terms and market, so review the terms shown at checkout or contact Xbox Support.
Can I use one pass on different devices?
The announcement does not explain device switching or simultaneous-session rules. It identifies packs as cloud playtime, but account and service terms shown for your offer govern how you can use that time across devices.
