HP JumpStart is a preloaded welcome and setup app found on some HP computers. It can guide you through product registration, optional service offers, app installation, and basic desktop or support choices. Open it from the Windows Start menu, complete only the screens you want, and leave any offer you do not understand. You can use the PC without finishing JumpStart, but registration and third-party sign-ups require an internet connection. The exact tiles and wording depend on your HP model and installed software.
What is HP JumpStart and what does it do?
HP JumpStart is a multistage welcome program that HP preloads on some computers. Its purpose is to help with first-run choices, not to replace Windows Update, HP driver updates, or the normal maintenance tools on your PC.

The sequence can include:
- Product registration with HP.
- Optional sign-ups for third-party services.
- A selection of applications to download.
- A Concierge screen showing download progress and links to customization or support choices.
Not every HP computer includes the program, and the available screens can change with the model and software version. HP’s guide describes the general flow rather than a single interface that appears identically on every machine.
How do I open HP JumpStart?
Use the Windows Start menu to find the HP JumpStart tile or app. If no tile is visible, search for HP JumpStart from Start; the program may be installed without a prominent tile.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open Start.
- Select the HP JumpStart tile if it is shown, or type
HP JumpStartin the Start search box. - Launch the result and wait for the introductory screen to load.
If Windows search returns no result, the program may not be included on that model, may have been removed, or may not be available under that exact software installation. You can continue using Windows normally if it is absent.
What should I do on the product-registration screen?
The first form in HP’s documented flow is product registration. Enter the requested contact information, choose your communication preferences, and select Register only if you want to register through JumpStart.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
Registration is optional for using the computer. Read each field and preference rather than accepting every selection automatically, especially if you do not want promotional messages. Registration and submission require a connection to HP’s service; without internet access, leave the process and return later.
Which HP JumpStart offers should I accept?
Treat service offers as optional decisions, not requirements for Windows or for the HP hardware. Review the offer shown on your own computer, including eligibility, billing, renewal, storage limits, and cancellation language, before accepting it.
Why historical offer details can be misleading
HP’s indexed guide from 2020 described a Dropbox promotion with 25 GB of storage free for the first year and a McAfee LiveSafe promotion that was free for its first year. Those are historical descriptions, not proof of the terms currently displayed on your PC. The amount, duration, eligibility, price after a trial, and renewal conditions may have changed.

How do I select and install apps in JumpStart?
After the registration and offer screens, JumpStart may present a list of applications. Select only the apps you actually want, then continue with the installation command shown by the program.
- Read the description beside each offered app.
- Clear selections for software you do not need.
- Continue with the selected downloads and accept any separate license or permission screen you understand.
- Leave the computer connected while downloads run if you want the process to finish in one session.
HP says downloads can continue in the background. That means you may be able to leave the installation screen and perform other local tasks while the selected items finish.
What is the Concierge screen?
The Concierge screen, when it appears on your model, acts as a status and navigation page. Use it to see whether selected downloads are still running and to open customization or support options supplied by JumpStart.
When you have made the choices you want, use the screen’s exit control to return to the Windows desktop. The presence, wording, and arrangement of Concierge controls can vary by computer.

Can I complete HP JumpStart without an internet connection?
No. HP states that registration and sign-up procedures for third-party services cannot be completed offline because they must connect to the relevant online services. Local Windows functions remain available, so you can use the PC without finishing those online steps.
| JumpStart activity | Internet needed to complete it? | What you can do offline |
|---|---|---|
| HP product registration | Yes | Use the PC and return to registration later. |
| Third-party service sign-up | Yes | Skip the offer and continue using local functions. |
| Using the Windows desktop and local applications | No | Continue normal local work while disconnected. |
When a connection becomes available, reopen JumpStart if it is still installed and try the unfinished online action again. Do not interpret an unsubmitted form as a completed registration.
Do I have to use HP JumpStart?
No. HP says you can bypass JumpStart and begin using the computer without completing its screens. HP’s guide puts it plainly: “You don’t need JumpStart to get full use of your new HP computer.” The statement is attributed to Dwight Pavlovic, a contributing writer for HP Tech Takes.
Skipping is reasonable when you want to configure Windows yourself, do not want the optional offers, or are setting up the PC without internet access. You can still install software, adjust Windows settings, and use the computer’s local features through the normal operating-system interface.
How to leave the process
- Use the Skip, Exit, Close, or similar control shown on the current JumpStart screen.
- If the program is still open, close its window from Windows.
- Return to the desktop and continue setup in the Windows settings you prefer.
The exact button label is not guaranteed to be the same across HP models and software versions. If a screen offers a service enrollment, skipping that enrollment is different from accepting it and can be reversed only according to that provider’s own process.

What is JumpStart Bridge, and can I remove it?
HP describes JumpStart Bridge as the component that allows JumpStart to run its registration and setup process. HP also says the JumpStart software is not required to use the applications or information made available through the process and can be removed if you no longer need it.
Do not follow a universal uninstall command: the correct menu path depends on your Windows version and what is installed. If you decide to remove it, first identify the entry in your installed-app list and confirm that it is the JumpStart component rather than an unrelated HP utility.
Safer removal approach
- Open the Windows area that lists installed apps.
- Search that list for HP JumpStart and JumpStart Bridge.
- Read the publisher and description before choosing an uninstall action.
- Remove the component only after you are sure you no longer want the JumpStart registration or offer workflow.
- Restart Windows if it requests a restart, then verify that the desktop and the applications you use still open normally.
Removing Bridge is not necessary merely because you skipped the welcome screens. Leave it installed if you may want to revisit the setup flow, and remove it only when its function is no longer useful to you.

Start by identifying whether the problem affects the local app or an online action. The following checks stay within what JumpStart is designed to do.
The app is missing
- Search Start for the full name HP JumpStart, not only the tile list.
- Check the installed-app list to see whether it is present under a slightly different entry.
- If it is not installed, use the computer normally; HP does not require JumpStart for full PC use.
Registration or a service offer will not submit
- Confirm that the computer is connected to the internet.
- Read the current screen for required fields or consent choices.
- If the connection is unavailable or the service is temporarily unreachable, skip the action and try again later.
An offer looks different from an online article
Trust the terms displayed on your own computer rather than an older description. Promotions change, and the 2020 HP guide’s storage and first-year examples should not be treated as current promises.

Downloads appear stalled
- Open the Concierge screen, if your version provides it, and check the displayed download status.
- Keep the computer connected while the download is in progress.
- Exit to the desktop only after deciding whether you want the selected apps; HP says downloads may continue in the background.
Which choices should I make during first setup?
Use this short decision checklist to keep the process focused:
- Want HP registration? Enter your information and submit it while online.
- Do not want promotional contact? Adjust contact preferences before registering, or skip registration.
- Unsure about a subscription or trial? Skip it until its current terms are clear.
- Need only certain apps? Select those apps and leave the rest unselected.
- No internet yet? Bypass the online screens and use Windows locally.
- Finished with JumpStart? Exit to the desktop; uninstall JumpStart Bridge only if you no longer need the process.
This approach separates optional enrollment from the essential ability to use the HP computer. It also avoids treating dated promotional examples as guarantees for a newer device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my HP JumpStart look different from the instructions?
HP supplies JumpStart on a variety of products, and the tiles, button names, and available screens can differ by model and software version. Follow the function described on your screen rather than looking for an exact copy of another computer’s layout.
Can I use an app I selected after closing JumpStart?
Yes, once its installation has completed, the app is used through Windows like other installed software. HP says the JumpStart software itself is not necessary to use the apps or information made available through the process.
What should I check before accepting a free trial shown in JumpStart?
Read the offer’s current eligibility, duration, renewal price, billing method, and cancellation rules on the screen. A historical promotion described by HP does not establish the terms on a newer computer.
Will my computer stop working if I close JumpStart during setup?
No. JumpStart is a welcome and setup program rather than a requirement for full PC use. Closing it leaves local Windows functions available, although any registration or third-party enrollment you did not submit will remain unfinished.
