The most reliable way to catch dialogue in Control Resonant is to combine readable subtitles with a speech-first audio mix. Turn on Subtitles in Options → Interface, set Subtitle Size to Large and add a background if text is difficult to see, then raise Speech Volume under Options → Audio. If effects or music still mask voices, reduce those channels rather than pushing every volume control higher. Use Night Mode for disruptive loud/quiet swings, and Mono Audio when one ear, one channel, or stereo separation makes speech hard to follow.
These settings improve access to the main story, but subtitles are not a transcript of every sound: the PlayStation accessibility listing says they cover the main story and main characters only. The guide below shows how to build a readable, comfortable setup, test your hardware path, and troubleshoot dialogue that is silent, distorted, or routed to the wrong device.

What should I change first so I do not miss dialogue?
Start with a neutral audio baseline, make subtitles easy to read, and then adjust only the control that addresses your problem. This avoids chasing a distorted mix with multiple boosts at once.
- Open Options → Interface and enable Subtitles.
- Set Subtitle Size to Large if you sit far from the screen, play in handheld mode, or have reduced visual acuity. Enable Subtitle Background when bright scenes or complex environments make letters blend into the image.
- Turn on Subtitle Speaker Names if identifying the voice matters during overlapping conversations.
- Open Options → Audio and raise Speech Volume a little at a time.
- If voices are still buried, lower Effects Volume and Music Volume instead of raising every channel. Keep Master Volume at a comfortable level.
- Leave Dynamic Range on Default, Mono Audio off, Hyperacusis Filter off, and Bass and Treble at 0 while you test. Add accessibility changes after you know the baseline works.
Play a section containing both quiet speech and a loud effect after each change. Changing one control at a time tells you which setting solved the problem and makes it easier to return to a comfortable mix.

How do I turn on and read subtitles in Control Resonant?
Use Options → Interface → Subtitles. The interface also provides speaker names, a subtitle background, and three text sizes: Small, Normal, and Large.
Choose a size that survives real gameplay
Large is the safest starting point if you play on a television across the room, stream to a small window, or find thin text tiring. Normal can work at a desk, while Small is best reserved for a close viewing distance and a clean display. Recheck the choice after entering a dark or visually busy area; text that looks fine on a menu can disappear against moving scenery.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Add a background when contrast is the problem
Subtitle Background separates letters from lighting effects, smoke, and environmental detail. It is particularly useful when white text crosses pale surfaces or when rapid camera movement makes an outline hard to track. A background changes readability, not the amount of dialogue captioned.
Use speaker names for fast identification
Subtitle Speaker Names puts the identity of the current speaker alongside the line. Enable it when several characters talk in quick succession, when a voice is off-screen, or when you are learning which character uses which call sign. It adds information to each caption, so check that the longer line still fits comfortably on your display.
What the platform listing confirms
The PlayStation accessibility listing separately identifies Subtitles (Basic) and Large Subtitles. It also states that subtitles cover the main story and main characters only. Treat them as support for primary dialogue, not as a guarantee that every ambient conversation, radio line, grunt, or nonverbal sound will appear as text.
Which audio setting makes dialogue louder?
Speech Volume is the direct control for voice level. Raise it before changing Master Volume, and reduce competing channels if the mix is still crowded.
Recommended Free Tools
| Problem you hear | First setting to change | Why it helps |
|---|---|---|
| Voices are quiet in every scene | Raise Speech Volume | Increases the dialogue channel without automatically making every effect louder. |
| Explosions or combat cover voices | Lower Effects Volume | Reduces the masking sounds that compete with speech. |
| Music hides low or quiet lines | Lower Music Volume | Creates space for dialogue while preserving a comfortable overall level. |
| Everything is too loud or too quiet | Adjust Master Volume | Moves the whole mix after the relative balance is right. |
| Sound from a supported controller speaker is distracting | Adjust Controller Speaker Volume | Changes that output separately where the option is available. |
Do not compensate for a missing output device by maxing Speech Volume. If the game is sending sound to a television while you are wearing a headset, the game-side slider cannot repair the routing error; use the operating-system or console output controls described below.
When should I use Night Mode?
Choose Dynamic Range – Night Mode when quiet dialogue disappears between sudden loud moments, or when you need to play without disturbing other people. Remedy describes Night Mode as limiting dynamic range and reducing bass, so loud passages are less disruptive and softer speech remains easier to hear at one listening level.
Night Mode is a comfort and consistency setting, not a dialogue-only boost. It can make impacts and musical peaks feel less dramatic. If you want the intended contrast and can control your room volume, return to Dynamic Range: Default after troubleshooting.

A practical decision test
- Use Default for a quiet room, speakers with plenty of headroom, and a preference for cinematic impact.
- Use Night Mode for late-night play, shared rooms, sensitive hearing, or dialogue that vanishes whenever a loud cue fires.
- After switching, replay the same conversation and a loud encounter. If speech is clearer but bass feels thin, adjust your external device rather than immediately raising every in-game channel.
Should I use Mono Audio?
Use Mono Audio when one ear is weaker, one stereo channel is missing, or left-right separation makes speech difficult to follow. Remedy defines it as combining the audio channels and removing sound directionality.

Mono can recover dialogue that is present only on the channel you cannot hear, but it removes directional information. That means footsteps, threats, and environmental cues no longer move around the stereo field. Leave it off when both ears and both channels work well; turn it on when intelligibility is more important than locating a sound in space.
Check the cause before committing to mono
- Play a scene with steady speech and listen to each ear independently at a safe volume.
- Inspect the headset plug, wireless connection, balance control, and console output device.
- If one side remains absent after reconnecting, enable Mono Audio and replay the scene.
- If both channels work but voices are still hard to understand, keep stereo and try Speech Volume, lower Effects/Music Volume, or Night Mode instead.
Mono Audio does not add captions for sounds that the subtitle system does not cover. It only changes how existing audio channels are combined.
How can I make high-frequency sounds more comfortable?
The Hyperacusis Filter offers Low and High levels for players who find high-frequency sounds uncomfortable. Start with Low and move to High only if discomfort remains; the stronger filter changes more of the sound character.
During diagnosis, set Bass and Treble to 0. Boosting either control can make a narrow band dominate the mix and hide the original cause of harshness or muffled speech. Once the dialogue path works, make small changes on your television, headset, or receiver if you need a personal tonal adjustment.

- Use the filter when a particular high-pitched effect causes discomfort even though speech level is acceptable.
- Lower overall volume when the entire mix is too loud, rather than using a filter as a substitute for safe listening.
- Stop playing if a setting causes pain, ringing, or lingering discomfort, and seek clinical advice for persistent symptoms.
What subtitle and audio setup fits each player?
There is no single best mix because readability, hearing, room volume, and hardware differ. Use the following starting points and then make one adjustment at a time.
| Situation | Interface setup | Audio setup | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| Television across a room | Subtitles on, Large size, Background on, Speaker Names as needed | Speech raised; Effects and Music reduced if needed | More readable text may occupy more screen space. |
| Quiet room with full stereo hearing | Normal or Large, Background optional | Default dynamic range, Mono Off, Bass/Treble 0 | Preserves directional cues and loud/quiet contrast. |
| One weak ear or missing channel | Large size and Background on if visual backup helps | Mono Audio On; rebalance or repair hardware when possible | Removes left-right directionality. |
| Late-night or shared-room play | Subtitles on; size based on distance | Night Mode; lower Effects and Music before raising Master | Reduces bass and dramatic peaks. |
| Sensitivity to high frequencies | Large with Background for less visual strain | Hyperacusis Filter Low or High; Bass/Treble 0 while testing | Alters the tonal character of effects. |
| PS5 headset user | Any readable subtitle combination | Confirm the console output device, then test compatible PS5 3D Audio | Spatial processing depends on the complete audio path. |
How do I use PS5 3D Audio without losing dialogue?
A compatible headset can use PS5 3D Audio, according to the PlayStation listing. Before fine-tuning game sliders, confirm that the PS5 is sending sound to the headset and that the selected format is supported by every part of the connection.
- Connect the headset and open the PS5 sound output settings.
- Set the output device explicitly to the connected headset rather than leaving an unintended television, monitor, or receiver selected.
- Enable or configure PS5 3D Audio only after ordinary stereo produces clear speech.
- Play a dialogue scene, then a scene with directional effects. If voices become hollow, distant, or intermittent, disable spatial processing temporarily and retest.
- Once the path is stable, adjust Speech Volume, Effects Volume, and Music Volume in Control Resonant.
Spatial audio cannot correct a loose connection, unsupported format, muted output, or an incorrectly selected device. Diagnose those basic failures first.
Why can’t I hear dialogue through my headset?
Follow a fixed isolation sequence instead of changing several audio options at once. Remedy’s troubleshooting guidance starts by checking whether other applications have the same problem, then moves through game settings, system routing, hardware, enhancements, formats, and file integrity.

1. Determine whether the fault is game-specific
Play another application or a system sound through the same headset. If everything is silent or distorted, the problem is outside Control Resonant; check the headset, console or computer output, mute state, and physical connection first.
2. Recheck the in-game mix
Open Options → Audio. Confirm that Speech Volume is not at zero, then verify Master Volume, Effects Volume, Music Volume, Controller Speaker Volume where available, Dynamic Range, Mono Audio, Hyperacusis Filter, Bass, and Treble. For a clean test, use Default dynamic range, Mono Off unless required, Hyperacusis Filter Off, and Bass/Treble at 0.
3. Verify system routing and the volume mixer
Check the operating-system volume mixer and the selected output device. A game can be audible while its application-level volume is muted, routed to a monitor, or assigned to a different headset. Confirm the per-application level as well as the master output.
4. Reconnect and substitute the hardware path
Disconnect and reconnect the headset. Test another headset, speakers, HDMI path, Bluetooth connection, or USB connection where your platform supports it. A substitution tells you whether the failure follows the game or stays with one cable, adapter, port, or wireless device.

Turn off audio enhancements and spatial-sound features for the test. Re-enable them one at a time only after dialogue works, because an enhancement can alter routing, phase, or frequency balance.
6. Test another supported Windows format
On Windows, select another format supported by the complete audio chain and retest. Incompatible or poorly handled formats can produce missing channels, crackling, or silence even when the game sliders look correct.
7. Verify the installation
Use the file-verification function in Steam or the Epic Games Launcher. Corrupted or incomplete files can affect audio assets; restart the launcher and the game after verification.
8. Restart and retest from a repeatable scene
Restart after making changes, then replay the same conversation and loud-effect sequence. Record which setting changed and whether speech, effects, and music are now present. This prevents a temporary connection change from being mistaken for a permanent fix.
Will subtitles show every sound cue?
No. The PlayStation listing says the basic subtitle system covers the main story and main characters only. You should not assume that ambient conversations, incidental radio lines, grunts, footsteps, alarms, or every nonverbal cue will receive captions.

For scenes where an uncaptioned cue matters, combine subtitles with the audio adjustments that fit your hearing and hardware: Speech Volume for voice level, lower Effects Volume for masking, Mono Audio for channel access, or Night Mode for loudness swings. If the game offers no caption for a particular sound, these settings can improve audibility but cannot create text that is not provided.
How do I keep dialogue clear without making the whole game loud?
Use relative balancing: increase Speech Volume modestly, then reduce Effects Volume and Music Volume until voices sit above the action. Keep Master Volume at a safe room level and use Night Mode when peaks, rather than average loudness, are the problem.
A repeatable balancing method
- Set Master Volume to a comfortable level during ordinary conversation.
- Raise Speech Volume one step and replay the same line.
- Lower Effects Volume if an impact or combat sound still covers words.
- Lower Music Volume if a sustained track masks quieter syllables.
- Check a loud scene to ensure the new balance is not uncomfortably intense.
- Choose Night Mode if the loud scene remains the limiting factor.
This approach preserves more detail than simply turning Master Volume up, and it leaves room to adjust for a different room, headset, or play time.

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
What should I do if dialogue sounds distorted or comes from the wrong place?
Distortion and wrong-device symptoms usually point to routing, format, or processing rather than a subtitle setting. First compare the game with another application, then simplify the chain.
- Only one ear works: inspect the plug, balance, wireless link, and output device; use Mono Audio as a workaround while repairing the channel.
- Voices are faint but effects are normal: confirm Speech Volume and lower Effects/Music Volume rather than boosting Bass or Treble.
- Everything is muffled after enabling spatial sound: disable the enhancement, test plain stereo, and then verify that the headset and console support the selected format.
- Sound comes from the monitor or television: select the intended headset or speaker output in the operating system or PS5 settings.
- Crackling starts after a format change: return to a supported format, restart, and test another connection.
- The problem follows one headset or cable: use another path and replace or repair the failing component.
What is the best final configuration for a first playthrough?
For most players, use Subtitles on, Large text when readability is uncertain, a Background when contrast is poor, and Speaker Names when conversations overlap. In Audio, set Speech Volume high enough to understand at a comfortable Master Volume, reduce Effects and Music if they mask words, and leave Default dynamic range, Mono Off, Hyperacusis Filter Off, and Bass/Treble at 0 until you know you need an accessibility adjustment.
Players who need additional support can then switch to Night Mode, Mono Audio, or a Hyperacusis Filter independently. On PS5, verify the output device before testing compatible 3D Audio. Remember that subtitles support the main story and main characters, not every sound cue, so a clear audio path remains important even with captions enabled.
When is the game scheduled to release?
The PlayStation listing gives Control Resonant a release date of 24 September 2026 for PlayStation. Settings and labels can vary by platform or later software updates, so use the exact menu names shown in your installed build when a control differs.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:

Can I make subtitle text stay on screen longer in Control Resonant?
The documented interface options cover whether subtitles appear, their size, speaker names, and a background. A separate subtitle-duration control is not established here, so use Large text and replay or pause when a line passes too quickly.
Do speaker names identify every voice in an ambient conversation?
Speaker Names labels the subtitle lines that the game captions. Because the subtitle system is limited to the main story and main characters, an off-screen or incidental voice may have no caption or name at all.
Why does Mono Audio make the game harder to navigate?
Mono Audio combines left and right channels and removes directionality. If you rely on stereo placement to locate threats or environmental sounds, repair the missing channel or return to stereo when possible.
Should I enable PS5 3D Audio before adjusting Control Resonant’s sliders?
No. First confirm that ordinary headset output is routed correctly and that dialogue is clear. Then test 3D Audio and keep it only if the complete headset and console path preserves intelligible speech.
