A promoted account opens it with Alt+F10. Promotion is done before joining through the official Dedicated Server Manager or VRage Remote Client; the shortcut alone does not grant permission.

Know which administration tool you are using
Four tools are commonly mixed together, but they solve different problems:

The Admin Screen is therefore not the same thing as the server manager. Use the in-game screen when you need powers while playing; use the manager or remote client when you need to promote users, inspect a server, or administer it without entering the world.
What you need before opening the Admin Screen
- A running dedicated server and an account that can reach its administration tools.
- The Space Engineers Dedicated Server tool, installed from Steam Library → Tools, or a server installed with SteamCMD when Steam is not being used on the server machine.
- Access to the server’s Dedicated Server Manager, or the server’s HTTP URL, port and Remote API secret key if you will use VRage Remote Client.
- A player account that has been promoted by an existing administrator.
Keen Software House documents dedicated servers as a free server component for an existing Space Engineers account; you do not need to purchase a second copy of the game just to run the dedicated server. The official documentation also describes both a foreground Local/Console process and a Windows-service deployment. Creating a Windows service requires administrator rights on the server computer.

Install and start the dedicated server
- Install or launch the dedicated-server tool from Steam Library → Tools. For a machine that does not use the Steam client, install the server with SteamCMD according to Keen’s dedicated-server documentation.
- Start
SpaceEngineersDedicated.exe. - Open the server’s management interface and connect through Remote Client. The manager is the place where the server process, world and administration settings are exposed.
- Leave the server running while you promote the account and test the in-game screen.
If the server is hosted on another machine, perform the promotion through a remote connection rather than assuming the in-game client can grant itself access. The account must already be recognized by the running server.
Promote yourself in Dedicated Server Manager
An existing administrator can promote a player from the official manager. The exact path is:

- Choose Chat and Players.
- Open Online to display connected players.
- Select the intended player name.
- Press Promote.
Promotion is a server-side permission change. Keen’s documentation states that once a player is promoted, that account can use the admin menu from the game client. If you are promoting another operator, have that person join only after the promotion has been applied, or have them reconnect if the server does not recognize the new permission immediately.
Promote an account through VRage Remote Client
VRage Remote Client is useful when you administer a running server from another computer and do not want to join the world. Before it can connect, configure the server’s:
- HTTP URL
- HTTP port
- Remote API secret key
After the connection succeeds, use the same promotion path as in the manager: Admin Tools → Chat and Players → Online, select the player, and press Promote. The remote client is an administration connection to the server; it is not a replacement for the player’s normal game login.
Join the server and open the Admin Screen
- Join the server with the account that was promoted.
- Wait until the world has loaded and your character is present.
- Press Alt+F10.
The window that appears is the current game’s Admin Screen. Older community material may label the same interface “Space Master,” which is why searches sometimes return a different name. The permission check happens before this shortcut: an unpromoted player pressing Alt+F10 will not gain administrative powers.

The Admin Screen changes properties and permissions for the current player and gives an administrator tools for immediate intervention in the world. Typical uses include:

- Helping a player or grid that is stuck.
- Correcting block settings that are creating an excessive performance burden.
- Using administrative powers while observing the world in Spectator Mode.
- Applying automatic settings to the current game after reviewing their effect.
Use the screen for a focused intervention rather than as the main place to configure the entire server. Server-wide options, user lists, bans, mods and restart behavior belong in the dedicated-server interfaces.
Apply changes correctly
Changing a control in the Admin Screen is not always enough. For automatic settings, click Submit Changes so the server applies the new values. If you close the window without submitting, the change may not become active.
- Identify the player, grid or setting that needs attention.
- Change one setting at a time.
- Click Submit Changes.
- Verify the result with the affected player or grid before making another change.
This one-change workflow makes it easier to identify a setting that caused an unexpected result and limits the scope of a mistake.
Use destructive and advanced options cautiously
Keen warns that advanced Admin Screen options can delete content from the current world. Treat deletion, mass changes and broad permission changes as production operations:
- Save the world before making a destructive change.
- Create a separate backup when the world is important or difficult to recreate.
- Record what you changed and why.
- Verify the affected grid, character or player immediately afterward.
The dedicated-server documentation also warns that numerical values outside the normal user-interface range are unsupported and can seriously affect gameplay or server performance. Do not use extreme values merely because a text field accepts them.
What belongs in Dedicated Server Manager
The official dedicated-server application separates its main work into four areas:
Server Settings
Use this area for the server’s general configuration rather than a temporary in-game intervention. Make a backup before changing broad settings, especially on a world with several active players or large grids.

Plugins
This area exposes plugin-related server controls in the official interface. Plugin availability and behavior depend on the server setup; do not assume that an in-game Admin Screen option installs or manages plugins.
Remote Client
Remote Client provides the connection used to administer a running server from outside the game. Its monitoring view reports simulation speed and gameplay state, helping you distinguish a player-specific problem from a server-wide simulation problem.
Console
The console is the server process’s operational view. Keep it available when diagnosing startup failures, connection problems or a change that did not take effect.
Manage users, bans, mods, messages and maintenance
The manager contains controls that should not be confused with the in-game Admin Screen:

- Users: manage administrators, bans and reserved slots.
- Mods: manage the active mod set for the server.
- MotD: control the message displayed when players connect.
- Maintenance: configure automatic restart and automatic update behavior.
These settings affect the server as a service or shared world. Use the manager when the goal is a persistent policy, not a one-off action on your current character.
Administer a server without joining the game
VRage Remote Client is the official route when the operator does not want to load into the world. After authentication, its administration tools expose:
- Global chat.
- Connected, banned and kicked players.
- Lists of grids and characters.
- Lists of floating objects, planets and asteroids.
This makes it possible to monitor and intervene while remaining outside the game session. It is especially useful for a server host who needs to check player activity, inspect world entities or respond to a problem when joining would take time or add load.

Remote administration still requires the correct server connection details and permission. It does not bypass authentication, and it does not turn an ordinary player account into an administrator.
Why Alt+F10 does not work
The account was never promoted
Return to the server manager or VRage Remote Client and confirm that the exact account currently joining the server appears under Admin Tools → Chat and Players → Online and has been promoted. A different Steam or game account will not inherit the permission.
You promoted the wrong player entry
Player names can be similar. Recheck the selected entry before pressing Promote, then reconnect the intended account if its permission is not recognized in the current session.
You are testing from the wrong interface
Alt+F10 is an in-game shortcut. It is not the way to open Dedicated Server Manager, VRage Remote Client or the server console. Open those tools on the server or administration computer instead.
The remote client cannot connect
Check the configured HTTP URL and port, then verify that the Remote API secret key matches the server configuration. Keep the key private; do not paste it into chat, tickets or public configuration examples.
The setting changed but nothing happened
For automatic Admin Screen settings, click Submit Changes. Then verify the affected player or grid. If the result is still wrong, undo the last change or restore the saved world rather than stacking several unverified edits.

- Store it only in the server and trusted administration clients.
- Do not publish it in screenshots, logs or support posts.
- Do not send it through global chat or ordinary player messages.
- Change the key if it has been exposed and update every trusted client that uses it.
A working remote connection is not worth compromising the server’s administrative control.
Foreground server or Windows service?
Keen documents two operational styles. A Local/Console instance runs in the foreground, where an operator can watch the process directly. A Windows-service deployment runs in the background and is suited to a machine that should start and maintain the server as a system service. Service creation requires administrator rights. Choose the model that matches who will restart, update and monitor the machine; the Admin Screen workflow is the same once a player has been promoted.
The official documentation names GTX Gaming for PC hosting and Nitrado for Xbox hosting. Hosting availability, platform support and current service terms can change, so confirm those details with the host and Keen’s current server documentation before moving a world.
Where Torch fits
Torch is optional third-party software for PC servers, not a renamed version of the vanilla Admin Screen. Its project documentation describes live management, chat and command execution without joining, real-time entity changes, configuration editing and plugins. Those capabilities can be useful for an operator who wants an extensible management layer.
Because Torch is third-party, check its current release status and compatibility with the server version and installed mods before deploying it. Keep a restorable world backup and test changes on a copy when possible. For a vanilla server, the official Admin Screen, Dedicated Server Manager and VRage Remote Client cover the core promotion, monitoring and administration tasks without adding another software layer.

A safe first-session checklist
- Install the dedicated server from Steam Library → Tools or through SteamCMD.
- Start
SpaceEngineersDedicated.exeand confirm the world is running. - Connect with Dedicated Server Manager or configure VRage Remote Client using the server URL, port and secret key.
- Promote the intended account through Admin Tools → Chat and Players → Online.
- Join with that same account and open the Admin Screen with Alt+F10.
- Use Spectator Mode when it gives you a safer view of a stuck grid or hazardous area.
- Save or back up before destructive changes.
- Change one setting, click Submit Changes, and verify the result.
- Keep the Remote API secret key private.
Practical operating model for a shared server
Use the manager for durable policy: who is an administrator, who is banned, which mods load, what players see on connection, and when maintenance occurs. Use VRage Remote Client for observation and intervention while the server remains online and you stay out of the world. Use the Admin Screen for a targeted, in-game response. This separation reduces accidental global changes and gives you a clear recovery path when an intervention has an unintended effect.
When several administrators share responsibility, promote only the accounts that need access, document the server’s connection details separately from the secret key, and agree on a backup and rollback procedure before anyone uses advanced or destructive controls.
